I had Leopold retrofit the CDS turret on my vari-x 3 about 3years ago and I will never go back. When you order a custom cds turret they also give you a separate none custom MOA turret for any load witch is super cool. So you get two turret for the price of one. I think I payed $60. My load with the BC of the bullet and velocity and 100yrd zero the turret goes out to 850yrds witch I'll never shoot that far. It has a low profile on the scope not like them tactical turrets. I've never had one move on me and I beat the bush plus it has a zero stop. Hope that helps

Have you hunted the unit before? Or within the last 10 years.

Coues With Big Heavy Bullets
azhamill replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I shoot a 300wsm & my wife shoots a 270win all coues have hit the dirt one shot. From 150-800yrds. The 300wsm is devastating at all yards with a 180gr Sierra game king not the best BC but the gun is dead on out to 850. I've loaded 168 tsx and had to hit the deer three times same goes with the 180 tsx no expansion on bullet but there is a lot of factors in that matter. The 180 GMK has worked the best so far for me and Family. This year I loaded up the new Sierra tipped match kings in 168gr so I'm excited to see how they work. My wife and dad both shoot the sst 130gr out of there 270 and have great success, the bullet never blew through we always find it on the exit side with A bulge in the skin. Let's just say I've never shot twice with the Sierra game kings or hornady sst. -

I've been in 6a for 10 days watching them Bulls We been on Bulls every day since the hunt started we are waiting on a particular bull but what I found is the Bulls are following the cows a few hundred yards back get behind the cows and start using a cow call that's worked for us every day. We also here bulls calling Every day but it's usually the bull saying I'm over here leave me alone . The Bulls coming in for us been off of a cow call but they are quiet and walk in slow or come in down wind. And I've also seen Bulls with cows. Hope it helps good luck

2013 My wife spotted her first buck witch was the one she took at a 350yrd shoot across the canyon. She said I think I see a deer feeding so I quickly through the glasses where she pointed out and behold a stud. 2014 on opening day she missed this buck Got it on video also. Maybe this year 2015 we will get a chance at him again So it came down to the last few days of are hunt and still no shooters, we caught A glimpse of a wide buck that looked like it had potential but it was early morning and he went up and over he never knew we where there. That same day my dad tag out on a nice 3x3. Next morning last day I went to the same spot I seen the buck the day before and once again there he was in the same spot. So I told my wife let's cut the distance between us as my dad walked us in. Next the last thing you want to hear is he went over the hill. So we proceeded just like that deer up and over to his hiding spot. And behold There he was 200yrds parallel from us. So I took my pack of so she had a spot to shot from. She got settled in and Bang! Buck down!

Not much of a story teller but I was lucky enough to get a second chance at this toad. I lunged him quartering away at 70yrds. Found the arrow in his lung and broken off Broadhead in his shoulder Didn't get great photos sun was going down fast and I was a mile n half from the truck and by my self plus my flash light was dead so all I had was my light on my phone.

No not yet I had a buddy Measure him that used to measure for B&C he measured him at 191 with deductions non- typical .
-
He had about 20inches broken off. He's only 16inches wide. But the mass is what carried him to 198' if I remember right 40inches of mass. I'm going to get him re-scored. I've had a few people plus me score him just over 200. It's kind off crazy the way some of the points grew so you can Measure him 3 different ways and get 3 different scores. The way Carrie at SCI scored him was one of the smaller measurements. But she was super nervous cuz she didn't no where to start.

Stuck this coues quartering to me at 110yrds. A lot of people will disagree with me about a shot like that. But I believe if you know your equipment and shoot all the time you can make shots like that. He scored 88'

Yeah sinusitis is a bad deal for them Rams. Same here as beck,I to have a ram I've been watching for a few years now. It's just crazy that out of the two tags in that unit nobody has took him out. But he does tend to disappear every so often.i would just be happy to help on a sheep hunt again.

So this was a few years back, we helped some buddy's on a early-season hunt. When we seen this stud he was a ways off and on the tip-top of the Mountain. I was surprised when we said let's go get him they just looked at us like we where crazy! I ask don't you want him, they replied hes not worth us dying. It was Purdy bad but this is what you wait for all year or your hole life. So as the story goes they never Tried. With that being said we had the same unit but the late nov hunt. We were in there every weekend before the are hunt. We knew that buck better than he knew himself so on opening day my dad got up at 1 AM and left camp just so he could beat that buck to the spot. I was cross Canyon looking just in case that buck wanted to do something different that day. So my dad called me on the radio and said I'm 70yrds from him but I can't shoot I said and why is that because I got bighorn sheep in the way. This buck and three others would always seem to be with these rams crazy. So he waited and took pictures of the deer and rams. Next I hear ka-boom! And my dad on the radio he is down. All I got to say is when my old man does something its 110% Oh! And he hates pictures so that's why I'm there Whoops thought I had more pictures I'll find them and post

I have a 300wsm im loading 180 GMK with h414 64gr at 3028fps cold Bore shooting 1/2 moa at 100. With custom Leupold with the CDS turrets for that load dead on at 100 to 850yrds. I'm looking for info on the 168gr TMK hoping it will have a little less kick. Thanks and sorry again if you have any info please fill free to send me a message.
