I will be with the crowd in 7E, also doing some early scouting for that late bull tag that I drew this year.

You can't go wrong with a .243 up to a 30-06. You put it in the bread basket and it will bring them down.

I have been up there dozens of times for hunting, camping, etc... I have seen deer literally everywhere. Most areas are good for deer ( some better than others), do some scouting as close to season as possible and you should have a opportunity to put some meat in the freezer.

I would not imagine a lot of difference between the two. Maybe a few weeks at most.

What I like about hunting in the pines and woods is it reminds me of hunting back east. Something about deer in a closer range gets the blood pumping! That's probably why I like the kaibab plateau so much...great deer, congratulations.

Now that the deadline has passed for the fall draw, what unit did you put in for? I put in for 12AE 1st choice. I never get drawn for it, I am just a glutton for punishment.

I got drawn for the late rifle hunt there. I plan on starting the scouting trips real quick as well. I am looking forward to it!

After the Warm fire at the north rim I believe in 06, I spent a lot of time there 2 months after the fire. Saw a ton of deer back on the burn areas. It seemed like it bother them at all.

Thanks guys, that is about what I figured. I knew it would be a tough hunt going in, I am just glad to have the opportunity to give it a try.

I need some advise, I drew a late rifle 7E bull tag. This will be my 1st elk hunt. Since it is well after rut, I would assume that any calling would be worthless. Is the best tactic just to wear out some boot leather, and get high and glass? i have hunted deer for years, but elk are going to be a new adventure, I can't wait!

I just got back from there turkey hunting, didn't see any turkeys but as usual saw a ton of deer. I love the Kaibab and hope to draw into a early rifle hunt before I am too old to do it.

I was up there 3 days and saw or heard nothing. Could not get them gobbling,regardless of what I tried.

Good job, 75% success so far, not too shabby.

Same as bull down, I got drawn for 7E late bull. 1st elk hunt, any advise would be appreciated. I assume since the rut would be long gone by then, that calls would be useless. Would just put in the time and go find them be the best advise? I am open to any suggestions.

I did get drawn this year (probably 7E late bull), 1st time in 5 try's. I understand the frustration with the draw system, but coming from the Midwest where you can hunt whitetails or whitetails, it is still great to be able to have the chance to hunt the game we have without paying a ridiculous price or driving a 1000 miles to do it. The system has it's flaws but we are still the envy of a lot of people back east.
