Be prepared for any temperature for that hunt.
-
Pray for no snow during the hunt. If you are lucky it will snow a couple weeks before the hunt. This will push lots of elk out of the pines and higher elevation pinyon/juniper into the areas you can glass. Last year the snow during the hunt was a very serious problem. Feed was really bad in the southern part of the unit as well. Elk movement was significant at night.

Interested in this as well. The Calvin Elite single stage works great. Also a fan of the narrow shoe they have as an option on their standard triggers.

Strelok Ballistic app powder temp comp?
6AYoteHunter replied to 105Coues's topic in Long Range Shooting
Shooter and AB is the same family and they both work. AB just has some added features. Exbal, BulletFlight, atrag, and JBM also work. Strelok had incorrect ballistics when we tested it a few years ago. No garbage in, but some garbage out. Had 6 ballistic programs running and Strelok was the only one that gave incorrect solutions. 5 of us double checked everything. So we emailed the developer. Response was something about real world ballistics don't match programs all the time and we continue to work on improved solutions. Good and bad answer I guess. Just didn't agreee with other software that worked really well in real world testing. -
The RMR at cabelas I think is the type 1 which is now DCd. The type 2 is now out.

#8 shot works well for snakes. I know #12 is terrible on a big rattler

You could just reload some 45 lc with bird shot. Bet someone has posted a video on YouTube.

Powder temp is important especially with some of the ball powders. -

I would recommend getting the Applied Ballistics app. Much more accurate. -
A ball head with a large panner works really well for photos and for horizontal grid glassing. Not so good for video though. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1162342-REG/manfrotto_mhxpro_bhq2_xpro_ball_head.html

Sig has a 1911 in 10mm now. Think it is a TACOPS. Wish Sig would do a long slide 10mm. That would be a really cool gun to own.

DSLR setups

Look at the Nikon 18-300 lens. Can handle 95% of whatever you need. Then learn how to use the camera really well. To post edit get a camera that can shoot in RAW. -

4-20 with the impact reticle and a mil version of the same reticle would sell like crazy with a fair price Add FFP as an option and could be the number one scope for the year. -
223 factory loads??(pics pg. 3)
6AYoteHunter replied to BeardownAZ's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Sierra 77 gr TMK @ 2850 fps, but that is with a 1 in 7.7 twist 22" barrel. Blackhills has a factory load that you can try first to see if you like it. I found this load kills coyotes faster than anything I have ever tried in an AR. Tracking jobs under 5 feet Fur is still ok. Have not tested on fox or bobcat yet. -
Keep that stuff out of any unit with bighorns or in areas with sheep ranchers. Too much copper. Run a quick google search on it. Also why do they add artificial flavors to everything nowdays Anyone wonder why cancer, dementia, and autism are all on the rise. We keep putting garbage in everything.

These are the 2 I am testing for deer and javelina. Hit like a sledgehammer and tested them vs steel, plywood, and had lots of arrows stuck to the fletchings on a new morrell outdoor range archery target and a couple pass thoughs through a half worn out block classic 22. Arrow? Easton Axis 300, Gold Tip Kinetic Kaos 300 Weight? 500 gr, 490 gr Broadhead? Muzzy trocar, magnus black hornet, and nap killzone Fletching? 4 fletch 3" super spine (point of impact at 30 yards within a couple inches with a missing fletching or 2), plan to keep the 4 fletch setup but might switch back to long low profile bohning fletchings since they do the best in catclaw and oak brush. Used to use 3 fletch blazers but are too loud above 260 fps FOC? Above 10% always no matter the setup KE? Maybe around 92 but momentum is way more important (my 400 gr arrows at 320 fps only go into the target half as much as the 500 gr) FPS? (Bow setup. Draw weight & length) 287 fps, hoyt carbon defiant turbo 73 lbs 28" Tune, tune, and tune some more. Perfect arrow flight kills far better. Can get decent accuracy when only halfway done bareshaft tuning. The last fraction of tuning I always start having the arrows dig into the target further.

They just posted $405 on the Cabelas card this AM! Date was actually 18th but had nothing online or via phone until this AM. Nice lady didn't understand why everyone kept calling. Explained it and she was very excited. Guess in her state they just buy their deer tags at the local store.
