I am taking my 4,7,8 year-olds camping for the first time. I have an old popup we'll be using and looking for a spot within 3-4 hours from the valley where we can get away from people, find cool weather, and near water (would be nice within walking distance). I have a good 4xr4 with clearance and I flipped the axel on the popup, so we should be good to go. Ideas? Thx, as always.

So we ended up doing Chevelon Lake. Bummer, but the last mile down to the dam was blocked off. We camped about 1.5 miles from the lake. The rim road was crazy green, as a side note. Also note to self: check the weather before you go into the mountains. If it is going to rain cats/dogs and horny toads, then at least time your trip so that you don't setup the popup in the crazy rain.

anyone try to find the site of impact?

side note: people taking pictures instead of watching the actual event drives me crazy.

I am likely going to camp on the east side of Chevelon Lake. Anyone think that is a terrible idea? Going to fish the stream and lake.

Yes, thanks. Went fishing there a few years ago. Incredible county.

Thanks All. I'll let you know where we end up. As a practical matter, I prefer streams/rivers so that my kids get used to that type of fishing (my favorite).

Hey guys- I typically fill out my card with family members for hunts. I have 7 points, my bro has 5 and dad has 6. The last member has 1 point. 7 seems to be a great number, and I have been holding out for late kaibab. Problem is, if I go alone, my chances are the best, but want to be along with family. If I am understanding the draw right, it would be 19 points/ 4 points for an average draw point of my card of 4.75. That would be a bummer and missing out on potential bonus pass. I am not the first to run into this, but I also don't want to file 4 separate submissions. thoughts?

I looked at the bonus point reports on AZGFD.com. I looked at the "Bonus pass by hunt number" report. https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/draw/BonusPointProcess It was hunt #1014 last year. They gave out 450 tags. I see this year it got bumped up to 500. Thanks.

stupid question: but how do you know where the bonus pass is? I have 7 pts and trying to decide myself. Last time I hunted 12AW, it was the early and snow came early. It was awesome.

No sir, I was just suggesting that because more people are aware of this auction, there would probably be more FFL holders bidding... LOL... Another user asked what an FFL was and then deleted his comment, could be part of the confusion. Elkaholic, cool site thanks for sharing. I was the 'other user'. In my world, FFL is Fantasy Football League. I just figured it out and decided to take down my comment.

I saw nothing today, actually. I sat in front of a keyboard jamming out hundreds of emails and several conference calls. Then I came home to out-of-control kids who didn't want to take one bite of food. Then, the last part of my day was trying to get them ready for bed. Now, I this is the first few seconds of peace in the day. Nope- no help on the mysterious animal. haha.

That's what I tell my kids.

I smoked my elk roast in an offset smoker. Managed to a beef temp on a typical roast (forgot what it was, this was 3-4 years ago). I did wrap it in bacon to keep it moist. It was the best tasting piece of elk I have ever had. Had the texture of a filet mignon.
