I was under the impression that you didn't need to ship From one but the gun needed to be received by an FFL. I believe you only need an FFL involved if it crosses state lines, but I'd double check before shipping.

Somebody with an 11M archery elk tag should come kill one of these pests . One raghorn bull, one 2-pt and lots of cows and calves.

I see a few bricks on Backpage for $40/500 today. Maybe, hopefully, this shortage will break and the gougers will have to put Mayonnaise on all their stash and eat it! Sort of like all the crazies that got caught with tulip bulbs in Holland in the 1600s tulip mania. -
Walmart in Flagstaff has a few 50 and 100 rnd boxes. Limit one.

Nice! Glad you figured out a solution. Hope your scope has the required adjustment. Please let us know how it works out.
-
Yeah, lever actions like the 88, semi-autos, etc make the old school method just about impossible. Considering the joke about the 26 yard dowel rod, I suppose a guy could use a long piece of string stretched out, but it's hardly worth it with the devices available these days. On a more serious note, I hope your new scope has enough adjustment to bring it on target. A foot low at 10 yards is 10 ft low at 100 yards. Most scopes probably dont have that much adjustment. In the old days we would have to shim a mount to get such a setup on target.

Yep, as area33 said, assuming you are using a rifle that you can look down the bore from action to crown, just point it at something about 25 yards away (it's not critical) and adjust the scope until the reticle and the center of the bore line up. It's been done that way since way before folks started selling tools to do it. Shoot it once at about 25 yards and you likely will be within a few inches, adjust the zero and move back to your desired range. Good luck. PS, you dont need a vise. Just a steady rest while you are looking down the bore and thru the scope. Try it at home tonight over the hood of your truck and looking at a light across the street or some such.

Thanks Nick. It's been a while since I've seen you. Hope you are well and the tag fairies have teen good to you!. That pic was taken last night from the back yard. That herd spends its days up on the hill behind the house and evenings/nights down in the valley. The bulls are just starting to get interested. The raghorn would chase the little 2-point away as soon as he got within 150 ft of the cows. Bruce

30-06 bolt action, scoped, w/sling, $225
40-year-AZ-hunter replied to awatson's topic in Classified Ads
From the pic on Backpage, that looks like one of the post-64 Winchester M70s that they made for third parties. If so, its a solid rifle, tho cant compare to the earlier or later M70s. A good buy. -
I have a safe queen Ruger M77 in 7mm Remington Mag. It's one of the classic tang-safety models with walnut stock. The bluing is perfect and no scratches in the stock. I'm not the original owner, but from the looks of the gun it has not had a box of shells thru it. Serial number puts it at 1980. I'd like $500 for it. I've not advertised it and am not anxious to sell it so please be kind. I really doubt there are many nicer Ruger 77s around. I'm in Flagstaff.

Regular adult size. Thanks.

Anybody got a cheap single shot .22 they want to part with? Preferably in Flagstaff or the Valley? Alternatively a cheap clip fed bolt action? Thanks, Bruce 602-633-5208

Leica Ultravid 10x42 hds for trade
40-year-AZ-hunter replied to lundellhunting7's topic in Classified Ads
I dont think he said he sold them. He merely pointed out the recent sale at auction on a national venue. Listed as new in Reno, NV and sold for $1200.50 with 6 bids. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-Ultravid-HD-10x42-Binoculars-/281392160457?pt=Binocular&hash=item4184479ec9&nma=true&si=dcGCkYVHFcZnxUKFwuV%252FTDt7AqE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Lots of them on eBay for hundreds more, but they don't seem to be selling. For instance, here is a pair with a starting price of $1600 that has no bids so far after 5 days. Perhaps it will get bids at the end. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-Ultravid-10-x-42-HD-Binoculars/301256022091?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D24142%26meid%3D8695199188675036254%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D10240%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D281392160457 Good luck with yours. -
257 Roberts is easy to neck down to 6mm Remington and of course .244 Remington is the same thing as 6mm Remington.

AGFD news What would you think of a new online club for hunters?
40-year-AZ-hunter replied to AGFD News's topic in News from Arizona Game and Fish Dept.
This is the first thing I thought of when I read this proposal. I have no problem with a tag surrender policy, as long as it is available to everyone, and any surrendered tags went to the next guy in line ONLY. Allowing someone to turn it over to a so called "nonprofit" org, while retaining their points, is outrageous, and should be TOTALLY out of the question. All points should be lost. Anything less would be a way for corruption to work it's way in. Such a policy would grossly cheapen everyone else's points, and cheat those next in line. Hunt of a lifetime? Really guys, there lots of worthy organizations who deserve surrendered tags and already get them. . No doubt. Some of us would like to make sure it stays that way. Some of us remember HB2072 that would have allocated a bunch of premium tags to AZSFW ( never mentioned by name in the bill but the only 501C3 that met the criteria outlined therein) to be sold at their discretion. By the way, some other folks thought that bill allocated tags to a "worthy organization", just a difference of opinion about what constitutes "worthy". By the way, as I remember HOAL opposed HB2072! Some of us would just like to see this tightly controlled to prevent big money interests from getting another leg up on the masses. Some of us worry about abuse of any government system by folks who learn to play the system. -

40-year-AZ-hunter replied to AGFD News's topic in News from Arizona Game and Fish Dept.
"Another thing to note is that surrendered tags don't necessarily need to go back to the department, but any of the approved 501c3 organizations. Such as the ones we are all familiar with that assist wounded military, terminally ill youth, and others. One would get their bonus points reinstated and get a tax write off in the process this way." Any process like this needs to be VERY carefully controlled. What if an approved 501C3 had the same intentions as the backers of HB2072 that was (thankfully) defeated? OK, here is a scenario for the tag return. Say I've got max points for elk. With those I can get drawn for a trophy rifle hunt any year. I get an early unit 10 bull tag. Mr. X pays me $5000 cash under the table to "donate" the tag to a specific 501C3. Said 501C3 sells the tag to Mr. X or his wife or son or ??? for another $5000. I get my bonus points back plus the point as if I was not drawn. Next year, by definition I'm at the top of the heap again so I get an early rifle bull tag in unit 23. Wash rinse and repeat, over and over for years. The rules need to be VERY tightly written to prevent all kinds of unforeseen abuse. -
Unfortunately, for most guns this will hurt the resale value, but if a guy is going to keep it and shoot it alot, it makes mucho sense!

Many companies have owned the Winchester trademark over the years. If your M94 has a serial number under 2,600,000 it is the most sought after as a "pre-64" with all milled parts. In 1964 they cheapened the M94 and restarted the serial numbers at 2,700,000 to denote the changes. Other versions were made since then with further changes. The value really depends on the vintage almost as much as the condition (within reason).

Most propane suppliers either have them or can order them for you. I use Graves propane in Flagstaff and I believe they can order various sizes. I assume you either have a tank or rent one at your cabin so I'd call the propane supplier you use. The company that made them for many years was Servel. I think they are now part of Dometic who make them for RVs. As I'm writing that, I'm thinking you might try your local RV place too. Altho you dont want a propane RV fridge, they may be able to help you purchase the residential one. A warning, they are somewhat expensive.
