Have you looked into a CIP length .338LM magazine?  Should still fit in the M5 inlet.

    3.600" standard

    3.680" CIP

Or are you looking at the Wyatt's 3.990", 3.825", or 3.710"??

Looking at the 3.990"-- most of the load data I'm seeing has COAL around 3.9~ with 285 ELDM which is what I'm planning to run mostly and then maybe 260gr Hammers.

Ahh.  Got it.  .338 Edge=Shoulder Mounted Howitzer.

Plan is to have the 'battery' trimmed down to 3 bolt action centerfires-- the .257 blackjack 'bee', the Edge and then my old trusty 783 6.5cm that gets laughs for a $350 gun with a $2k scope... until it shoots a little bitty ragged hole next to the range neighbors shotgun blast.

The .257 and .338 will have nearly the exact same ergonomics (MCS-T, Proof, TT Special Flat, 20 moa seekins) and I'll move my scope in between the 3 rifles as needed.

Don't think the .257 Wby round will fit in a mag?

Oh it'll fit! I got two of the same stock for doing 2 identical builds.... but on the 338 EDGE I'm going to BDL metal and Wyatts internal box so I can seat the bullets out longer than in a DBM set up.  Lot harder to go from M5 back to BDL😖

  5. HAVE
Manners MCS-T, Elite fill, Rem 700 LA, RH, Rem Sendero Contour (can be opened for a Proof), M5 DBM inlet, 1" pad, 9/16" pillars, 2 front/1 rear stud, Swamp Camo, NEVER fired, NEVER bedded

    WANT
MCS-T, same or similar set up, color doesn't matter, NEED BDL INLET

I can say the 121 Hammers fly REALLY accurately, but BCs seem WAY inflated.

Like 6-8" low at 545, 12-14" low at 741, 18+" low at 921.  I couldn't even estimate how low the 921 yard drop was.  Pretty unexpected.

545 group was very good however.  Like 1.5".

    721 was about 2".

The vapor trail off the Hammers is a sight to see.  Looks like a dust trail!  I have a couple good videos of them, but here is a still frame of one.

Very cool!! Is that the angle of the video or are we seeing spin drift?

What is the reamer setup to set the overall cartridge length at? I need to see if it will fit in my magazine.

Shouldn't be an issue at all- they shortened the freebore to .131" from the SAAMI .378"- to reduce jump with the bullet that has a short bearing surface to begin with. It's a Dave Manson reamer, no neck turn.

The 131gr bullet is 1.415" which is .2" longer than a 115VLD. Shouldn't have a problem running it from Remington box at all.

Let me know how they act on an animal. If they kill well it just may be the info I need to push me over the edge and rebarrel my 257 weatherby to a fast twist to run the blackjacks...

If you decide to do that let me know-- my 257wby blackjack reamer should be here next week to get my 7.5 proof spun up... after that the reamer will need a new home.

I have no idea how I messed my last post up, but what I am asking DH175 if s/he has a source to support traffic accidents and fatalities doubled in a few months?

Of course, 2 could go to 4 and that's doubling, but I'm hoping the population and sample size is meaningful.

P.S. There is no posted speed limit on 60% of the Autobahn yet it has a lower death rate per 100 million miles driven.  Speed is not the problem.

Have you been on the Bahn? The whole driving culture over there is COMPLETELY different--- they also have speed cameras at interchanges and dangerous areas where limits do exist-- like our red light cameras but with less regard for due process-- if the Cam catches your plate and you are just a few KM over... TICKET.  It's called deterrence.

I work for a city of 300,000-- since the change our accidents are up 50% and fatalities doubled.  Houston banned them earlier and saw 30% increase in fatalities and 116% increase in accidents. Austin put cameras in  (pre-ban) at key 'problem' intersections and reduced accidents 40%.

    https://usa.streetsblog.org/2019/06/05/more-people-will-die-as-a-result-of-texas-red-light-camera-ban/

Most people are short sighted and get pissed at a citation or $50 red light fine... imagine how pissed they are when the deterrence is gone and they get SMASHED at an intersection and now deal with lingering injuries, insurance claims, etc... and god forbid they get hit by someone without insurance and they don't have comp. Red light wrecks are generally pretty catastrophic.

In the same context-- speed is the #1 cause of accidents on the highway-- I see it again and again first hand- cell phones don't help but it's the folks going too fast that make the rest of the roadway unpredictable and then they can't react fast enough to fix things either....

  10. KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE- unlike the animals that these things hit!!

This is my muzzleloader bullet from my CO elk this year---  Cow Elk, hit just behind the shoulder, heart/lungs then stopped after passing through off side, she went 15 yards and tipped.

Started out as a 300gr Harvester Sabertooth @ 1850fps MV.  100 yard shot, recovered bullet weighed 191.9gr or 64% retention.  Same bullet on a mule deer buck in the same 'pocket' was a pass through, he sprinted 20 and piled up... just far enough to scrub up his velvet 😢

  11. Hard to consider it a 'trap' if there is adequate distance to safely slow from current speed to the next posted speed.  Speed limits don't exist for what you may think is reasonable and prudent... they exist for the safety of the greater population... most of which, from my experience, are not reasonable, prudent or safe drivers to begin with.

Sure there are cops who are gonna sit on the off-ramps or right behind the '35mph' sign... but that is far from the majority.

Here is Texas they recently outlawed Red Light Cameras-- probably a good thing because there are all sorts of constitutional issues... BUT- in the months since then... we've seen traffic crashes and fatalities DOUBLE on the city streets.

So- BLUF- there is a reason why traffic laws are enforced.
