I have a 26" pac-nor 8 twist stainless that I'm looking to part ways with. Was going to be a 22-243 but I have too many irons in the fire if you are interested.

Proof Research barrels
duckhunter175 replied to WampusCat's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I'll keep you updated. I won't be likely to shoot the 7RUM much this fall because of a busy hunt schedule here in KY, elk hunt in CO and then travels to TX and OK. I might take it to OK to stretch it out but it will be with the HSM factory ammo. Once I start getting some handloads tested hopefully we will see what it can do. No doubt it will shoot better than I. -
Proof Research barrels
duckhunter175 replied to WampusCat's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a proof as well and have been extremely happy with it. I heard the same issue from a gunsmith about having issues with them indicating in on a lathe.... AFTER I had ordered. However, once it arrived there were no issues. Rifle Blueprinted Rem 700 7RUM Proof 26" Sendero Light, 1-9" APA Little Bastard McM Game Hunter Edge Fill 9.25lbs w/ scope Have only shot 30rds of 180gr HSM and it is 1/2moa at 200. I plan on handloading 175 ELDX, 180 VLDs and 195s. -
To add onto what Lance listed-- Preference for Mil vs MOA for your reticle and for your turrets. Figure out what makes the most sense for you-- even as an artilleryman my head works best in MOA for shooting and hunting because I relate inches in target size. Great article to get your thoughts flowing, be sure to check out all 4 parts! http://www.primalrights.com/articles/rifle-sighting-systems/rifle-sighting-systems-part-1-moa-iphy

New rifle...looking for ammo. suggestion
duckhunter175 replied to iBowAZ's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
HSM-- Hands down the most accurate 'factory' ammo I've tried. I haven't shot it in .243 but I have used it in 25-06, 7RM, 7RUM, and 30/06 with outstanding results. -
You could get into a decent FFP for the $1000 budget. I found that I like the subtensions remaining the same across the entire magnification range esp when shooting the holdovers as opposed to dialing or doing the math on a SFP scope. FFP Options Burris XTR ($1100 on midway) Vortex HSLR or PST Nightforce SHV F1 I think another interesting SFP option that just hit the market is the Vortex Razor HD LH-- Their lightweight 3-15x42 weighs 16 oz and has two choices in reticle.

Two rifles back from the gunsmith this weekend!! One for reaching out and touching and one for a little closer or timber work. 1. 7RUM: Rem 700 blueprinted and bedded, Timney Trigger, APA brake, McM Edge Game Scout, Proof Research 26" Sendero Lite, Wyatts Extended Mag Box, Vortex HSLR 4-16x FFP. 2. .338wm: Model 70(LH) blueprinted and bedded, graphite black cerakote, factory stock(great wood) Pac-Nor 24" #4 contour with their 'prone brake' no ports along bottom 90 degrees, Zeiss Victory HT 1.5-6x42

Christmas in July!!
duckhunter175 replied to duckhunter175's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
9.25lbs on the scale, unloaded. 1.5" @ 200m with HSM ammo (180 HVLD) off bipod Muzzle blast is significant but the brake does it's job and the felt recoil is not bad at all!!
