The Barnes TMZ 290 grain are accurate with my older CVA Optima 50 Cal out to 150 yards. I can’t say how they perform yet but my son is going to use it on his late muzzy bull tag this year.

Don’t worry too much about scouting or where others have found deer buy focus more on preparing a comfortable camp site. Good food, warm bed and dry camp will make your experience much better and will enhance your ability to find deer. Use your optics, be able to shoot at distance and carry a well equipped pack. You will be as or more prepared than anyone (no disrespect) you are asking here for advice.

The Colorado secondary draw is either coming soon or in the process. You can probably pick up a tag on the eastern plains and have a crack at some good bucks with a shorter drive. You need to have a hunter safety card.

I’ve done otc for elk in the area around 68/681 near storm king mountain. I didn’t see many elk and had one opportunity at a spindly rag horn but blew it. A lot of area in SW Colorado has gone to draw but 71/711 near Dolores had numerous leftovers this year that you might be able to pick up. Im not aware of any otc deer tags in Colorado anymore.

The only bull I killed was with a 100 grain muzzy. I finally drew another tag this year and spent some coin on the Iron Will solid 125s. They fly great on my 550 grain Easton Injexions ive killed a butt ton of javelina with slick tricks but you can kill them with anything. I have a bunch of Sevr which are the newer Ulmer Edge which are a possibility this year. As of now I’m going with the Iron Will

Try lake of the woods in pine top/lakeside. Nice cabins and family can do some fishing while you hunt.

Deer are everywhere in that unit. Every buck our group has taken down there has been within a mile of a road. Good luck.

There is a trout pond right in Telluride Mountain Village that I used to take my kids to. You can also try Burro Bridge, Fish Creek between Dunton and Groundhog, West Dolores River south of Dunton, Groundhog Lake, Groundhog Creek if you can find access. McPhee Reservoir near Dolores is great because of the variety of fish. Narraguinep between Dolores and Pleasant view uses to be great but I haven’t fished since they no longer allow boats. Miramonte lake south of Norwood is full and fishing was great 3 weeks ago There are plenty of opportunities in the area that are closer to Telluride. Most I mentioned are 25-50 miles away.

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab V-8, 4WD, 137K actual miles, AC, 2 spare tires, extra unused front grill. runs good, typical crappy older Dodge dash but has been skinned with a cover. I can post more pics of the interior. There is a dent to the left front quarter and minor damage to the left front bumper. No leaks, have some repair receipts and receipt for tires and wheels. $4300 OBO

I have never hunted SW Colorado but yes units 71/711 are now draw only. I’m not sure about 70. I’ve spent the past 5 years up there during the time around Memorial Day and just returned yesterday. Normally I see several hundred cows in the calving grounds near the cabin and this year I saw a total of 12 elk. the numbers appear to be down. Maybe they haven’t moved in the area yet but from what I saw making them draw units are a good thing.

I carry a lot of the same in my truck but in my hunting pack I pretty much only carry tweezers, a few bandaids, quick clot and a tourniquet.

That one is a foot short but nice
