I definitely was not suggesting a limit, but I was curious to know others opinions. I've never thought of buying ammo in bulk but I certainly believe you should have a healthy supply in your home because you just never know what can happen. And I'm sure that's reason enough for loading up and buying what you can. It's just the times we live in. My thoughts on this have more to do with our freedoms and political future. I think people's ammo purchases are their business.

I don't think anyone buys .22 lr in moderation anymore. I don't know a lot on the subject but Sandy hook and politics really changed a lot. Do you guy think with all the hoarding that there should be some kind of limit? I haven't bought any recently, or even used the ammo i do have, just due to the fact that I don't want to fight to buy just one brick.

I'm new to archery and have been learning about technique and watching a lot of videos about archery and bow hunting. I'm hoping to spend this year getting ready and then go on a hunt next year. What kind of hunt would you all suggest for a first time bow hunter? I've been looking at javelina and turkey. My husband is a bow hunter and he has been great with answering all my questions. I'm just curious to know what other opinions or advice is out there. Thanks

Thank you for all the advice. I have a rifle elk hunt this year to look forward to but I'm also doing all I can to learn about bow hunting.

Hunting with an order of protection - Questions/Thoughts needed
fdh88 replied to naturegirl's topic in The Campfire
I guess I just had to weigh in on this thread since it's gotten so much attention. Based off just what I've learned from this post, I'm sure this guy doesn't want to cross paths either. But if you plan on just killing anything opening day, then perhaps it's best to put in some time scouting and hunt elsewhere. If being worried about running into an ex is going to ruin the hunt then maybe signing over the tag would be best. However, if it was me, I would gather some friends and scout new areas, hopefully find a new honey hole, and start a new tradition on my own. Seems like the best way to have a fresh start and an enjoyable time whether you tag out or not. -
I bought a bow nearly 2 months ago and have been practicing at 20 yards. I shoot nearly every day but I struggle to remain consistent. I started out great but now I keep shooting low and to the left. I had the bow checked out and I even had my stance looked at. Everything is as it should be. I've had my husband watch me shoot and he says I just need to be more patient and take some deep breaths. So I'll ask, what is everyone's approach? What do you do to stay consistent?

I can't remember but what was the logic behind moving up the muzzleloader hunt in 9? I wonder if that will happen in other units in the coming years.

I really paid attention to draw odds when putting in for elk. I was lucky to draw cow in unit 8 with 1 bonus point, 47% odds. My husband got archery bull in 5BN for the 2nd year in a row so obviously zero bonus points and 18% odds.

Thanks for all the great advice! I'm going to apply all this info next time I practice.

At first I thought it was the sight so I took it to a shop and shot there and everything was on point. So I definitely think it's me. I'm just going to keep at it and try to improve.

My husband's tag came in the mail but mine didn't. The mail lady always mixes up the mail. I'm hoping it will come today.

Not sure if anyone has seen the photo that recently came out of a woman that harvested a giraffe in Africa. She's being bashed all over the Internet just because this is an exotic animal, She had a story about her hunt and how the meat was given to a village but she is being scrutinized and being called disgusting and way worse names not worth of mentioning. I just wanted to rant on here since we are all like minded people. I don't think you can ever change the mind of a hunter or someone who is anti-hunting. Clearly the giraffe wasn't poached but that's how she's being labeled. Perhaps those people don't stop to think of the animals that die for their consumption whether it be hunted or farm raised. Just because the animal is exotic, everyone is suddenly offended by hunting. But what I know. I suppose some people find more honor in getting their meat in a drive thru without ever knowing or caring about what it takes to harvest animal for your family on your own, or to be that farmer who raises those animals, only to be degraded by ungrateful people. Thanks CouesWhitetail for giving me a place to rant.

It seems like we are always expected to give respect to groups like this that show little respect to us. Based off some of these stories I hear, hunters have way more knowledge about conservation and respect for the land more than these people ever will.
-
It's just crazy to me that all of these people become outraged because they recognize the animal from the zoo. These days you can't do anything without having the media and bloggers attacking it. Everyone is easily offended and we are all supposed to be sensitive. Nothing illegal happened. I'm just bothered by this because certain groups always express wanting tolerance and understanding but it seems like hunters get the short end of the stick.

A little over a month ago I bought my first bow and I'm thinking turkey may be a good place to start for archery hunting. I pulled an elk tag for this year, so I'm thinking with enough target practice I will be ready to go in 2016. Just looking for some turkey hunting advice. I'm looking at the fall archery hunt because I know the units that are available for that hunt. How to the fall and spring hunts compare? What additional gear would you suggest? What can I do to be prepared for next year? Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks. I've watched some youtube videos on the kill zone. I'm looking to do a lot of target practice. I've looked at javelina too. Right now I've been looking at all things archery and trying to learn as much as I can. I love hunting with a rifle but archery feels really rewarding.

Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to this site and have only posted a couple of times. I've found myself checking out this page every day and enjoy reading the posts. I'm a female hunter and have hunted small game my entire life and pulled my first elk tag this year. I've always loved the outdoors and have tagged along on big game hunts. I was always my dad's hunting buddy, but he passed away last year. He left behind a massive arsenal of hunting and fishing gear and I want to make sure it never collects dust. I made it my goal to learn as much as I can about big game hunting and go on as many hunts as I can. I'm lucky to be married to a great outdoorsman and hunter who understands the obsession I have with hunting. I definitely didn't join this site to e-scout. I'm here for reading some great stories from people with a common interest. It's shaping up to be a busy fall with my husband's archery bull hunt in 5BN and my late cow rifle hunt in 8. I'm hoping to have my own elk story to post later this year.

I have the regs right here. It's Unit 27 archery bull. Congrats!

The bonus points updated because mine are gone. I'm still not seeing this year's results so hopefully soon.
