    Bass fishing for a beginner...

6 lb for drop shot ... 8 - 10 for almost any other bait getting started ... it is a huge learning curve and so many guys have their preferred ways and teachings ... IMO have 2 poles ... 6 lb mono ... and 8- 10 lb fluorocarbon ... as others said retie knots often .. and learn your knots ... First knot I learned at 5 was the trilene know ( easy and works fine ) but I prefer palomar knot on many rigs.

    Bass fishing for a beginner...

came in to say this. 6lb line, 1/8oz sinker, size 1 drop shot hook, roboworm. rig up a drop shot, then nose hook the robo. done. use it all year too OP... Morning Dawn, Aaron's Magic, and Sexy Shad good colors state wide Also try to limit your self to fishing and learning 1 or 2 techniques on any given trip ... you want to learn drop shot do it all day long... Carolina rigs ... you may get skunked a time or two but you will learn ... Spinners and Drop Shot Robo Worms is where I would start like others have said ...

    Bass fishing for a beginner...

About 5 poles ... Med/Heavy Bait cast with Heavy Mono 12 lbs plus for Top water, buzz baits, jerks, certain spinner baits and shallow running crank baits Med/Heavy Bait Cast with 15 lb plus Fluoro or braid for deep cranks, heavy spinners ( especially through the garbage and thick log jams) and jigging heavy baits 3/4 oz and up Med Bait cast with 10 - 15 lb Fluoro for intermediate cranks, intermediate spinners... worming and jigging lighter baits 1/2 oz and under Med Spinning 10 - 12 lbs Fluoro ( can do same as above pretty well ) med/light spinning 6- 8 lb ( 6 preferred) for finesse techniques like drop shotting, jigging lighter worm riggs, and crappie if you get on them ( prefer a rig with 4 lb for crappie but 6 works well enough) You can get started with the bottom 2 pretty easy and find success ( bait casting , pitching and flipping takes time and practice) remember if fishing bait on top like floating a minnow, or fishing a shallow or top water presentation use a mono line ( it floats ) things like drop shots fall a little slower with mono but fluro is what I still prefer even for that. practice ... and once you are hooked expect to spend a bit of $$$$

    Really? Really???

Dead carcasses and angles do weird things to our eyes... That leg is pulled back and behind the strap ... if one assumes it is field dressed that upper cavity can be collapsing a little under the weight... Photo Shopped is usually easy to see when you download and zoom into the pixels with adobe and I am not seeing the signs personally of it being shopped. just my opinion

    Really? Really???

Do not think it is photo shopped at all ... and I do not see what the fuss is .. other than maybe offending some Antis ... No one has enough info to judge how long it went from dirt nap to the top of the jeep, to hanging and being processed. I can tell you from experience I have had a couple Bucks from 3c on the top of my ZJ and to the guy who does our processing quicker than many retrieve and field dress there kills. A good winch makes things a lot easier but still impressive to get him up top like that.
  7. Hells Gate is 22s ... If you look on a flat line map it may show on the north map but the 260 is the divider for north and south Tonto creek west to the salt is the boundary... Still Canyon east toward sweet water tank right on the north side of Hells gate always had good numbers of Bulls in it...

    One week's growth

from everything I have learned ... Drop Tines can occur for various reason ... Genetics, Injuries to the buck, or just damage during development while in velvet... I have always learned and thought that drops that are genetic continue year after year... Drop Tines caused from damage during development or injuries (that heal) are less likely to become part of the annual growth year after year... I am sure there are some here that can give more insight, as It is an interesting topic.

    unit 32

Access to public lands should be equal ... I have no issue putting the miles on and most on this forum do not.... but if there are individuals that can drive in 8 miles closer access is not equal ... Distance from a vehicle adds certain benefits in emergency situations as well as packing out ... not just the Hunting .... On more than one occasion I have been on trails in a couple different units hiking in @ 4 am in the morning only to get a couple miles back and have a couple guys in side by sides run me off a trail barely big enough for the OHV and literally drive within a hundred yards of where I was headed 3 miles back ... They crossed and caught the trail through private land, where the land owner had put up fence and posted no OHV's. They claimed they were given access... Upon running into the land owner , he claimed that was not the case but hard to say if he was being truthful... When it comes to public lands ( land Locked or not ) ALL should have Equal access. for more reasons than just hunting.

    unit 32

I hear if you pay a couple different guides/outfitters plenty of cheese ... they will get you into the vast majority of the unit most hunters are locked out of and open the whole world to you .... I am sure there are plenty of quality and numbers in 32 but access for the DIY free hunter types is a Joke and from what I hear it is far worse than it was 10 years ago... It is a prime example of a few screwing it up for the majority .. The small percent who trashed private lands and the few individuals who secured decent access through locked gates... It is about time for the state to start getting access back and work out deals with land owners to ensure all of us get equal access to OUR public LAND

How do you lock up your Ice chest/coolers???

Never locked up a cooler in all the years camping and hunting ... even down south by the border ... never had a thing taken ... KNOCKING ON WOOD !

    Found Pistol

I understand the idea of people feeling they are doing the right thing finding the owner when presuming something is lost ... But why in anybody's right mind would you not call the police when you find a handgun off the side of the road... Sometimes best intentions are butt backwards and a gun along side the road could possibly be a gun used in a crime tossed out the window of a moving car.... I say let it be .. call the authorities and then share that it was found and let people know where they can find it...

    36B North/Northeast Parts

He is trying to keep it more 1 on 1 which is respectful.... 36B has plenty of good bucks all over that Unit ... So I never have an issue helping out a fellow hunter who may not have as much knowledge down in that Unit ... heck the cat is already out of the bag on the leftovers so I do not think I will be going down quiet as much as in years past... lots of good areas and easy to get away from the masses down there . PM sent

Roosevelt Lake looks like a pond

Keep in mind that in the last 7 years all three lower lakes have been dropped to certain low levels while working on various projects .... Roosevelt is down and if this El Nino winter is anything like they say may come it will fill up pretty quick... I think it shows a complete waste of money on the improvements and ramps put in at windy hill since there has only been 2 years that I know of that they were all able to be used. I preferred the days of camping on the shore and keeping the boat in the water

How many use scent lock/blocker clothing?

down south .. strip some creosote leaves ... boil them down ... seep, bottle and spray .... bugs tend to stay away too
  24. Str8Shot

Furthest south you have seen elk?

^^^^ he must have really screwed up to be exiled that far south and alone ^^^^^^

    164 7/8" Coues

I was thinking the same thing... The first Pics I seen only had the Cuernos watermark ... now they all have A3 as well. I personally feel it takes away from the hunter buy I guess they put themselves in that position. Would be great to hear the Hunters story and by name the individuals that helped him .... Versus seeing a poster child for A3
