An everyday happening in Chicago , a City with the strictest gun laws, but you do not hear it much on national News... They want to roll this up as being the same as other Mass shooting just because it happened at a college campus and they can add it into their political agenda. Young people are Broken, because families are broken, because parenting is broken, because the are being raised to feel entitled and deserving and do not understand failure. We need a Media that does not make these Broken people inFamous because the deranged look at is as getting the fame through their failure.

I can see both sides on using tools like the the CLAW, and yes it is a tool to help make up for human error. My personal opinion and why I do not like seeing kids use them is because they are usually used in conjunction with Guns and Scopes, dialed in by an adult for long range shots, More often than not with guns that the kid could not handle off shoulder on their own.Seeing others use them, I have watched the adult do everything but pulling the trigger. IMO when teaching kids there should be a natural progression that starts with the basics no matter if it is rifle or archery. With rifles, you start with smaller calibers and iron sights and the kid learns the fundamentals. Small game to big game closing the distance close shots to taking the long shots. In archery thumping rabbits with blunts and a recurve or long bow all while building strength and working up to being able to handle the heavier draws and make the longer shots. I know the new fad is to utilize the latest tech to take and get the longest shots ( seems to be bragged about more than antler size these days) for the kill. However, as awesome as the feeling is to drop game at long ranges I have yet to meet a hunter that puts it even close to closing the distance and taking their trophy with open sights or with stick and string. I personally have witnessed 2 young hunters who have been shown how to shoot one way and that is off a claw, and though they have taken deer and elk in that manner, they both did not even have the slightest comfort or knowledge trying to shoot an iron sight 30/30. I think the hunting culture has changed dramatically since I was taught by my Dad and Grandfather, I can only hope that teaching my son in the same way he continues it down the line. Like Lombardi Said "Gentlemen, This is a Football" ... even pro athletes, sometimes need reminded and retaught the basics to become better and win.

Light rain on your hunt is okay ... what you do not want is the 40-50 MPH winds like we had in 2010 for almost the entire hunt... I would have taken 80's and 50's over that cold, wet, and very windy weather that year. Beware what you wish for -
In Oct 2010 we had 9 touch down from Clint's Well stretching northwest of Flagstaff to Bellemont.... I know one traveled over 30 miles and lasted over 50 mins .. trphy not sure what I was thinking

Used the app , seen it was still in Bar called the Bar and they sent the phone back to her.

I thought they had changed it so all ELK hunts required a guide ... or maybe I am just recalling wrong. OP .... assuming you have the dry lake and not Hill Top tag .... You should use the boundary map to be safe ... Check out north of Point of Pines along the Malay gap boundary back to the west staying in northern portion of the unit. Been a lot of years since being back there and back then the herd seemed pretty small.

Really the 300 rd ? The camp has been south above pumpkin center a few times and when up north it is off the FS512/288 (Young Road a.k.a Pines to Desert Hwy) around The power Lines and NF291 ( or to some Colcord Road ) ... Don't listen to wildwoody he thinks HellsGate in 22 is 22 N when it is 22S

This is why they were proposing to move the archery hunt back a couple weeks ( more in line with the Rut ) , something archery guys have been complaining about for the last decade it seems... but The stick and string guys want it all, no Muzzy or rifle Hunts before and First crack during the Rut... Some time you have tough Hunts , get over it , at least you had a tag in hand!

Not sure if any forum members made it up, but while getting in a little time scouting for my cousins 22 hunt we hit the lake. Fishing was so- so with a lot of 10 - 12" trout and a handful over 12" .. but the site of the day came mid morning... Elk were being vocal later in the day and at one point a Young rag horn decided to swim the lake and come up on shore in the middle of a Big group of people fishing . He found him self surrounded by easily 30 people many as close as 5 - - 10 feet away as he shook the water off and decided to eat for about 10 - 15 minutes. When finished he just took a casual walk up the hill before moving on. I was across the lake on a boat and wish I had a camera, but I am sure many on that shore with cameras got some cool pics.

Have never heard of elk getting into coolers. Got an uncle that's been a campground host in the white mountains for 20 years, he's never heard of such a thing, but then I rarely inhabit campgrounds. How gullible are campers? Wish firstcoueswas110? was around to lend some expert testimony. If I were elk hunting and shot one tampering with my ice chest, could I be charged for baiting with a Yeti? Well with the Boat we wanted to be close to the lake plus with all the hunting traffic the 300 and young road areas were a joke ... tossed up a couple hammocks and slept under the stars waking up early Sunday before the rain... Once in my life have I witnessed an Elk tear up a ice chest(about 30 years ago) and it was a stainless steel one that he probably caught some of his reflection on and decided he wanted to fight himself. He was not interested in what was inside just obliterating the metal box hanging from his rack. This is the first time in a campground at that lake ( hate paying ) in over 10 years but the first I ever heard such a story... there were a lot of elk ( cows and calves ) working around the camps though, but when it comes to the coolers I think shady campers and bears are the culprits. Edge and what other law would you be breaking if that elk was drunk from drinking up the case inside the cooler?

Man it was about as busy as 4th of July up there .... I was hoping one of the people would piss him off so he would toss and kick a few.. If that had happened I would really be kicking myself for not having a camera to get pics and video. p.s. the host at aspen said they had been having a lot of issues with bulls and cows tossing and tearing up coolers left at camps eating the goods left inside... Now seeing an elk eating a turkey and ham sandwich on rye would be a picture I want ... I still have a feeling many of those were bear but they are afraid they will not fill the campground if they start telling people the bears are active

Nope ... Trolling and casting crickhoppers and pin minnows .... Cowbells did not lure the elk to take a swim
-
LOL .... The lake was a plan B and a good one,. With some people you always should have a Plan B when making the drive up north...
-
Awesome story .... I do not know what it is, but my experience is when it come to girls ( especially my daughter) once they are comfortable with the gun they tend to be more accurate shooters than most guys I know...

Funny you bring that up, a few guys were just talking about that same thing .... It does seem like almost every time, in the last almost 7 years, when the Dems and current administration are getting bad press there has been a mass shooting that happens and seems to distract the public.
