Just finished up youth turkey hunting here in 4a and b. Saw probably 100 elk a day.

I responded to your post on Bowsite.

I put those thirds at 22 inches easily. The point length on this bull may be hiding his mass a bit. I know I've never seen a 320 bull with a 22 inch third. Or a 340 for that matter.

And you've all under bid......

Curious why you think that's weird? Late archery hunts are not too popular of hunts and some are 100% draw odds. So drawing it with no points or low points is a guarantee usually depending on unit. Being 100% odds means some tags make it to 3rd, 4th, 5th pass. Truth. Some are hard to get but most are a high odds draw. My dad drew last year as a third choice too.

Best of luck. Awesome draw!

And it's triple confirmed....bull elk in September baby!
-
Normal for me three

Yes, colder is always better. But..... All things being equal I've always seen the best rut days during the last week of September. Regarding the moon, I believe it stirs everything up a bit. Just like there are more babies born in a hospital or more crimes committed during a full moon, the elk will get a little nuttier during the full moon. However, depending on the rise/set time, it could be in the middle of the night. Also a great time to see mid day movement.

Late archery hunts do suck! Regardless of whether or not you can shoot a big bull or not, they suck. The weather is usually soupy, the elk are all roughed up and broken, and they could care less about screaming their lungs out. Can't be put in same category as an early elk tag. Yes success can be had, but it's more like a deer hunt than an elk hunt. There I've said it! Now that I've drawn I may seriously consider a late hunt because although they suck, they suck a lot less than sitting at home.

Preach on brother!

These hunts are so fun! Best wishes to all. My son drew a big boy elk tag this year. It will be a blast.

I don't like including cow hunts into these discussions. Nothing wrong with cow elk hunting, but it certainly isn't what most of the people in the draw are trying for. I'm in favor of things remaining the same even though I have definitely not had great draw luck myself. I do like the fact that every year you've got a chance, no matter how minimal that chance is. Now non residents also have that same opportunity. Bottom line is most people underestimate what the average amount of years the wait for a bull elk tag is. There is a thought that it's just the most popular units that require a long wait. This is far from the truth. The "middle of the road" and "easy" to draw bull tags take a resident 5-10 years or 7-12 bonus points to draw. The "high demand" bull hunts take 14-20 years on average to draw. Basic numbers but these are pretty close from my research. Some will get lucky and draw with none. Some will be unlucky and not draw with 10-12 points. That's the game. Tougher on average for most non-residents.

Lol. The fat lady hasn't sung yet! Give it time grasshopper. -
I don't want to give anyone false hope but......the draw charges have NEVER been through in just one day. I wouldn't give up hope until at least Tuesday.

My nine year wait is over! The boy and I got drawn!
-
Card charging started last year on the 20th of March. And the year before....
-
I believe we've officially set a record for latest card hits since elk/antelope went to the earlier drawing. The latest I found was 3/28 for the cards to start being hit. I guess there's a first time for everything. Maybe, just maybe, there will be a shorter wait period between card hits and official results this year.....
-
Good point! It is open!
-
Perhaps the Easter Bunny will be charging the cards.....
-
The Buff tag just went for $39,000! A new record. Awesome

LMAO! Probably so!
