Well you all almost have me convinced to get rid of my 91 S-10 with the 4.3 and 240,000 miles, gets 20 mpg. The only thing I tow with it is a small trailer but it will tow my cj-5.

What? You took Coues sheds and made a Siameselope and Tabbylope? Maybe you had antler less tags? BTW..I have two indoor cats only. Feral cats are responsible for songbirds declining in cities.

I was at the Archery Shoppe in Albuquerque today. They buy antlers and I saw about 10 whites and only four rag horn browns. So people may be waiting or not finding much yet.

Interesting you mention that about coyotes and cats.....after hearing the report that they had a clinic for spay and neutering cats for free the other day at one of the vet clinics......last year they did 17,000 cats. They offered free traps for trapping stray cats to bring in and have them taken care of........we have become very soft in our feelings for animals and the coyote is a perfect predator for taking care of stray cats....17,000 cats spayed and neutered and then turned loose again???? Crazy!!! When I was an Animal Control Officer I took 25 cats off one property. I knew many ranchers close by that I could call and drop feral cats off at their barns to take care of mice. That way they got the mouse population taken care of without having to take care of the cats. They would lose cats to hawks, owls, and coyotes. One time I had a big mean tom in a trap on the way to a ranch way out of town and mother nature called. I stopped by a wash and that cat in the bed of the truck spitting and hissing called in 6 coyotes and me without my .222 Rem..

I thought he was talking about the Wild Turkey Federation having an impact on AZG&F.

The elk in my avatar I used a 250 grain ShockWave. One shot through the heart at 200 yards, he went about 20 yards before falling over. The ShockWave is close to the Hornady SST. If the gun will shoot them accurately should do fine. P.S.-The reason it was a 200 yard shot is I had him at 50 and the cap went off but not the charge. Followed him down a draw and had him at about 125 and the cap had fallen off the nipple. So sitting across a fallen tree I basically had a bench rest when I drilled him as far as I would shoot since I practiced out to 200 all the time.

So let's keep beating a dead horse. My answer is "Charge of the light brigade" by Alfred Lord Tennyson

No elk left down there. They were all killed last year. No I think they may be holding them longer or others have been there before. I usually don't start looking until turkey hunting as I am not a big shed hunter.

New Mexico Hunt Deadline March 18
Red Sparky replied to Norteno's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Don't have the e-mail anymore. I think they e-mail a few days early to keep pressure off the web site. I guess we will be getting e-mails Monday the 27th so we might know two days before posted so only those that don't have e-mails will be hitting the site on Wed. the 29th. Edit: The tags we had were for deer and elk. Those results along with turkey and antelope had to be filed by midnight March 18th to not be rejected in the draw. Good thing as soon as my hunts are over I fill out the results for them. -
The “Famous” Western Hunter Sleeping System
Red Sparky replied to AmericanThunder's topic in Other Hunting Gear
+1 on the Elkhunter. Used it in a tent on November elk hunt with only a Big Buddy heater to kind of warm up the tent to get dressed in the morning. Temps were 20 at night and I never got cold sleeping. -
With my two daughters (15 and 11) I have seen all three movies. The elk in the third movie she draws on it and lets down. She says to Gale something along the lines of "They are not even afraid of us. They have not been hunted in years. Doesn't seem right". Something I thought was going to be very anti-hunting I took as being very pro hunting. Basically you don't shoot fish in a barrel.

Wanting to make sure I read it right and not miss something. So I am questioning my interpretation since I am not a lawyer and it is like reading Shakespeare for me.

New Mexico Hunt Deadline March 18
Red Sparky replied to Norteno's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
I thought results were out before the posted date last year? Just curious. AZ was not good to me nor was WY so I'm getting excited for the next one! I think they came out earlier last year due to the lawsuit over percentages of NR and resident licenses. They had the court ruling and draw done before they thought so they came out earlier. Funny though what WFGinNM said because the regs say that. I got an e-mail from G&F I think before the draw deadline that said midnight that night was the final time to input them not to get rejected. Maybe because of the tags my daughter and I had? Wonder if it is still in my trash folder or if I emptied it. I have started checking my e-mail daily rather than monthly now though. -
Here are my questions from what I read of the case: 1: He had a valid hunting license and shot a bull but had to leave? 2: He thought it was a lethal shot and the animal would be dead when found? 3: His buddies tracked the animal to recover it for him? 4: He assigned his tag to them since he thought he shot it and would be dead when found? 5: His buddies found the bull still alive in a pool of blood? 6: They killed it and put his tag on it? 7: When did they call him to tell him it was alive? 8: They thought it was morally right to end the animals suffering rather than wait for him to come back and shoot it? 8a: Why didn't they put their tag on it? 9: His supervisors started a formal investigation after an informal investigation that did not give him the same rights, where he refused to answer? 10: Doesn't the 5th amendment of the constitution allow us not to make any statements not to incriminate ourself? 11: He was disciplined for the memo sent outside the chain of command and not the violations? 12: The court found his supervisors violated his due process rights and retaliated against him? Does that about sum it up?

New Mexico Hunt Deadline March 18
Red Sparky replied to Norteno's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
This is the NM draw results. Our results will be out April 29th at 10:00am. We don't have to guess when our results will be out, don't have to check cc's as paid for up front, and don't have to call G&F. We do get e-mails early to take pressure off the web site. -
I just bought three different cams yesterday, already had two cheap ones. I am testing them in the back yard to make sure they are working and kind of a side by side comparison before I put them out. I want to make sure they are working before I drive three hours to put them out. Got bunnies and cats in the back yard last night and a good idea of the flash range and illumination on each cam. Just put alkaline batteries in them but will put lithium in them for out in the woods. I will know results at the end of the month to know if I will just be putting them out for deer (guaranteed tag where I put in for) or if I get an elk tag as well. So hopefully starting May 1st I will have five cams out and getting pics.

Took my daughters to a kind of thrift store. They buy used name brand clothes, in good condition, that other teenagers have outgrown so as a parent I can find good deals for their "designer" clothes without breaking the bank. I surfed the men's section and found five UA Scent Control Heat Gear t-shirts, my size amazingly, in almost new condition. I paid $25 for all five shirts. I thought that was a good deal. Can hardly wait for bow season.

Stealth Cam Unit Ops 8mp, $80 new; Wild Game Innovations Blade 8X LightsOut with 8gb Sandisc SD card new $90; Browning Range Ops LR $95 new. So far I am liking the Browning best but they are all working pretty well. I moved them to the front yard to see what is going on after dark. We have no street lights and I have picked up people walking dogs after dark at about 60 ft. from the cameras. They were visible but just outside the range of the flash. The Browning has a quick trigger speed and will pick up cars doing 25-30 mph in the middle of the picture where the other two I get taillights or nothing. Will see what the battery life is in a month with standard alkaline batteries.

Transfer federal public lands to the state.
Red Sparky replied to Tek-Hunter's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Coach--The way it was proposed here, unless I read it wrong, was the state wanted to take over all the Federal land that is already under Federal control. Something about designation under the constitution and if the land did not fall under that the state wanted to manage the land. I think we could do other things that would be more beneficial to our state. Mt__Sourdough....... I hear you on being in the middle being assaulted from both sides. Alpinebullwinkle.....You bring up some interesting points. I have been in places where there are so many roads all you see is does and forkies, very few elk, no lions or bears. Idiots from the city going up for "week end getaways" and throwing trash wherever they want due to the easy access. How does the TMP discriminate when they only close a few roads and not all? I am all for access for disabled hunters. Do you think if the habitat was improved by less roads there might be more animals, and better quality, to give a better opportunity for disabled hunters? If you want to talk about discrimination then let's talk about a TMP that closes a road to trucks, jeeps, and 4X4's but leaves it open to quads and atvs. If you going to close it close it to all motor vehicle traffic. -
I like wine but prefer home brew beer. He does have the top 3 in the state.

For all of you who got antelope tags this year congratulations! One day I might get one here in NM. Here is something for you to dream about until you get your antelope. So respect landowners rights to limit access to their land. I am sure you could walk around the private to hunt state land. There are usually ways around but it may be hoofing it instead of riding in a vehicle. I think the problem is the map shows incorrectly. The landowner still has a right to stop access across their land if it is not a public road, at least that is the law here. I know Wy is really bad on trespassing and it is the hunters responsibility to know where they are. You should have a land access map or two and know if it is private land or not. I got the onX hunt app. on my phone for the trial period through RMEF. Every unit I hunt the land ownership FS or BLM map has lined up with it. From what I read the OP does not want vehicle traffic on his land. I did not read anything about keeping everybody off but just the vehicle traffic. Possibly from the map marked incorrectly as it being a through road and it is not. Hence the gate or cable to stop vehicles. Maybe I missed the fencing the whole property and putting up signs at the appropriate distance. If that is a commercial plate maybe it is somebody verifying it is not a through road to correct the map issue?

Then your draw system is really messed up. My app. #'s here for previous and this years hunt are the same app. #'s as recorded on our web site. If I had an app. # say of 12345678 I could go back and find the year I put that app. in, what species it was for, and which hunt I drew,if it was my 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice, or if I was unsuccessful. At least I am being kept entertained. I believe Vossy has a correct hypothesis. Still waiting for 10:00 on April, 29th.
