I believe this is what we are looking for.
Red Sparky replied to murfys69law's topic in Antelope Hunting
Yep! That is the #1 World Record out of NM. The hunter has the top three in the state. I would mention his name again but Nature Bob will make wine remarks again. Edit: But then again maybe he is too busy dreaming of an elk hunt. -
Anything you can get a tag for. Last year was my first archery tag and I got buck fever on a simple cow elk at a waterhole. Get a bow in your hand and a tag in your pocket and go enjoy.

I was expecting a reply like this sometime. It doesn't bother me at all because I know what I'm asking for. It's not free stuff and it's not to encroach into someone's hunting spots. Its simply guidance on how to hunt. Knowledge that I can use for the rest of my life no matter where I may live or go in life. Thanks so much for your invite. If I can manage a trip like that to N.M. I will definitely look into it. For right now I am trying to learn locally, and maybe at a later time I could meet up with you sir. It would be at least a five hour drive for you so I understand. The offer is open in the future if you can make it.

New Mexico draw results
Red Sparky replied to Couestracker's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Confirmed four hunts this year. Archery elk and deer for me and ML elk and deer for my oldest daughter. So Sept.-Oct. is going to be busy -

Well when the draw results are posted the 29th I will have to wait to find out if I drew. On 4/20 my best friends dad passed away. They will be having the services on Wednesday morning with services at the National Cemetery in the afternoon. So I will be able to stop by my father-in-laws marker for a while after the services. I probably won't be able to check my results until I get home later in the evening. Good luck to all those that draw. Keeping my fingers crossed for my elk tag as my deer tag is a given.

10:00 am if the web doesn't crash. Polaris550 the attach code is for others to attach to your license. What they are talking about, before it was taken down, is if you went to the review application at the top it had your application number and next to it was a license number. It did not tell you what unit or hunt but if you got a tag, if no license number was next to it you didn't. I found out about it too late and could not check my application but I got an e-mail that must have been a "leak". Check your e-mails first because they usually send out e-mails to hunters to take pressure off the web.

Sagaveman25--I know I have an elk and deer tag over here this year. If you want to tag along some I will be hunting Coues deer archery in NM unit 23 which is on the Az line in Sept.. Luna, Glenwood, and Reserve are the towns I will be closest to so if interested shoot me a PM and I will give you directions to my camp.

Read the last line. He is looking for a mentor and not any "honey holes". Savageman25 if you want to put in for the west side of NM I will drive down and help you out. Get a non-res hunting license and we will go bust some yotes over here. I would look at getting a bow as soon as you can.

The main purpose was for turkey hunting but with the rain, snow, and wind we saw them but could not get close. Saturday we saw about 150-200 head of elk in about 20 different groups. The bulls were growing bone from nubs to about 18" already. Saw deer every day and my daughter took all these photos. We had a great time and can hardly wait for camping/scouting trips over the summer.

I want to reload, I need advice....
Red Sparky replied to ctracingraptor's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yep a single stage is more economical and also easier to learn on in my opinion. The only reason I use a progressive for my handguns is I have access to one. I only load for them once a year so I do roughly 4000 rounds per gun per loading session. I mainly use the handguns for defensive reasons, concealed carry, so am not worried about accuracy. I use reloads for practice and carry factory ammo in my handguns for defensive purposes. I use my single stage for all of my rifles since I am loading 100 rounds or less for them at one time. -
Young mule deer. Look at that long scrawny neck. When he fills out he will be huge.

Good Job on the turkey. The wind, rain, and little snow didn't help us at all over here in NM. We still have a few more weeks for my daughter so will see. We saw turkeys every day but the wind had them too jumpy.

My daughter took all the pics and I did not know she was running a video. The wife and kids are heard saying "awe, how beautiful" and I am heard saying "yummy steaks". This was in the middle of town in somebodies yard.

I want to reload, I need advice....
Red Sparky replied to ctracingraptor's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a RCBS single stage press and all the goodies that I have had for 35 years. It has paid for itself many times over. I load .222, .243, 7mm-08, .270 Win, .30-06 with it. Now as far as the progressive press I use my cousins Dillon 550. With it I will sit and load about 4000 rounds in about 5 hours so it is a great time saver. I load .38 Special, .357 Mag, .40, and .45 but he uses it for .223. The nice thing about reloading is customizing rounds to a particular firearm for accuracy. I can load down my daughters practice rounds and customize it so they shoot a lot without heavy recoil and developing flinches. -
Macro Photography

One of my daughters photos with her camera she got for Christmas. She has been playing with it and not taken any photo classes yet. -
Not illegal to put out minerals and salt but could be illegal to hunt over it. I have found natural salt licks in the middle of nowhere too far to bring the minerals in. Deer came up and started eating the dirt. I do know this weather did mess up our turkey hunt over the week end but give us more rain! Interesting discussion. I think the rain helps the feed for deer and elk, better feed means more nutrition to go into antler growth. If the animals are not stressed by predators and feed then more nutrition goes into antler growth but as stated genetics plays into it as well.

Well this falls into the jokes category more than here but it works. Two guys were bull moose hunting. They decided to make a cow moose decoy to fit in and once they got close to a bull the guy in back would unzip the decoy, pop out with his bow and shoot the bull. They had a rut crazed bull coming in thrashing trees as they were calling like a cow. That bulls eyes were wide and he was crazy. The guy in back tells the guy in front the zipper is stuck and he can't get out to shoot. He ask the guy in front what he should do. The guy in front says to the guy in back, brace yourself, I am just going to pretend to graze.

Read the best decoys for antelope and it might answer some questions.

One will be in my freezer.

I hope you get it Coues79. I am hoping I have good news after the services. The one I am waiting on is my elk and my daughters elk.

Nothing wrong with cow tags. Our archery tags are either sex so I would be thrilled if my first bow kill, last year was first time archery hunting, was a cow elk. I had a chance but had a bull bugling and got greedy. Not going to happen again. First shot I get I am taking. Elk in the freezer beats tag soup.

I am just waiting for the e-mails that come out early. I should know before then.

Nice pics. Love getting the kids outdoors.

A puncher is a guy who rides a horse looking for moo cows, back tension is what the horse feels from the puncher on him.
