Go Broncos! The only reason they won was the defense. Ware should have been MVP, but at least now Manning can retire. Time for Brock to step up. Yon Miller and ware reminded me of Carl Meclenberg (sp?) and Rulon Jones.

Anybody try to catch a three legged dog or cat? They can run just as fast so I can certainly see the loss of a leg not causing any problems for a wild animal.

No not a lineman. Just a regular electrician that does about 95% commercial and 5% residential. It seems like I live in the rafters, on roof tops, and in bucket trucks. I much prefer 480v 3 phase and conduit over 120v and romex.

It is just starting. Compassion Works International is having a rally here at the state capitol to "educate" the public about an activity the group calls brutal and immoral practice and to also protest the trapping of mountain lions in NM. The Santa Fe event is part of the Worldwide Rally for Cecil, an anti-trophy hunting campaign. This is going to get crazier than it is now.

See I told wolf F1295 and F1340 NOT to sign up for Obummer Care. One quick question from the news story: Is the f in front of the numbers suppose to be capitalized or not? If it is suppose to be F that means those were alpha females.

The NR that don't draw in the bonus pool, will be put into the regular pool with higher draw odds due to more numbers in the hopper. It's also significantly better for G&F to have a 50+ year old continue to place applications with the off chance that they are able to draw in 5 years instead of 15 years. Keep the G&F budget strong without having to levy increased fees to residents. As a resident, this is a slight benefit to me as the non-bonus pool is now "up to 5%", so in theory there could be less than 10% of tags going to NRs. But its a huge benefit to the G&F budget overall to have more applications from NRs helping to bolster their funds instead of tag rate increases to ALL applicants, NR or Res. I agree with that. The problem I see is if I was in the top percentage where I could have had a tag in 3-4 years and now I see I may not get a tag in 20 years I would be tempted to cash in my points on a different unit and quit applying. The flip side is if I see I can never draw a tag or have to wait 20 years why apply at all? Of course I like elk hunting, any legal elk will do for me, so I only put in here for units I have a high chance of drawing. I have been drawn 8 out of the last 10 years. That is why I like the NM system, other than the limit of 6% to NR, it is all random luck. That and they can get the draw done correctly . Actually, NM limits non-guided NR to 6% of the tags issued in the draw. The tags issued in the draw are a varying percentage of the actual total number of tags issued. There are varying numbers of landowner tags in each unit, which are mostly also sold to guided non residents. NM isn't exactly forthcoming with the information on exactly what any of those percentages are. NM won't come out and say it, but they're clearly NOT supporting the DIY public land hunter through accessibility to tags through the draw system. Nor are they supporting youth recruitment of non-residents. It's quite simply a short sighted and small minded approach. Without future residents (VOTERS) in other states supporting hunting and fishing, the argument is already lost. IMHO, for highly sought after tags, a no-point system is better than a system based purely on preference points, but a guy can apply for a lifetime and never have a better chance at a tag. That simply sucks compared to the bonus point system in AZ. At least once you build bonus points, even if it takes 25 years, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Quite a few DIY guys I know, who hunt many western states, simply won't apply for NM with the no-point system, application fees, the the "6%" rule, which isn't anywhere near 6% of the total tags issued to non-residents. You need to look at NM in two ways. The draw and LO tags. They are completely different from each other. First the draw which does limit non-guided NR to 6% of the tags. If you go to the web site and look up the full draw chart you will see it broken down by unit how the draw worked. 6% or more do go to non-guided NR hunters. Here is an example for unit 17, elk, archery, here in NM: Residents 84%, NR 6.4%, guided 10.4%. There is the possibility of 16.8% of tags going to NR hunters, after all you only have to contract with a guide/outfitter for a drop camp to be in the guided pool. If you want to find it it is called 2015-Drawing-Odds-Complete- Report on the G&F website. Now as far as youth recruitment: I guess they don't have youth only hunts. Unit 13 Elk, Muzzle Loader, Youth-Only: 84% R, 8% NR non-guided, 12% guided. I am not sure how many R youth applied for the guided hunt but you are looking at a possibility of 20% going to NR youth. They also don't have youth encouragement hunts for youths that don't draw. Residents get to apply for those first, then NR youths can apply for the left over tags. A NR youth can buy a tag to hunt elk if they don't draw on a first come first serve basis so there is opportunity for youth hunters. Second LO tags. LO tags are not a percentage of the draw tags but separately derived to compensate LO for the wildlife usage of their land. Remember the rancher that shot the herd of elk and left them to rot? Now the LO can use the tags or do nothing with the tags, it is up to them so you can't include them in the draw. Now LO tags can be unit wide or Ranch Only. Any hunter drawn has full access to that UW ranch like the UW LO tag holders, and the UW LO tag holder has access to the whole unit. Now the RO designation, the DIY draw hunter can't access the ranch (unless you are willing to pay many $$$) and the ranch tag holders can't hunt off the ranch. The state can't make private landowners open their land to hunters so those tags can't be included in the draw. What most don't realize is the state is managing two different elk herds, those on public land and those on private land. I won't buy a LO tag but don't have anything against those that do or the land owners that sell them.

At work so I can shoot everyday without the wife knowing. Funny text I am going to try on the wife next time. Honey, me and the boys are bow shooting. If I am not home in 20 minutes, read this note again.

REWARD OFFERED- TRAIL CAM THIEF IN PIC- REWARD
Red Sparky replied to elkwalker's topic in Trail Cameras
All that was pointed out in my arguments. Forest districts can make their own orders, damaging trees, etc. . I am tired of the argument of "it is abandoned property so I can take it without any retribution." Show me the documentation where it is fair game as I have shown the documentation to sustain my side of the argument. What I read in the rules is SEIZED. Rules that LEO's and government personnel enforce, not the general public. You yourself used the term "jacked" meaning stolen. So my post on the "decoy cameras" points out these thieves may need to think and learn there could be consequences for their actions. My cams, if I even put any out, are only in places where a camera thief would find them so I am not too worried about a hiker, kid, LEO finding them. Other hunters might but I figure they have ethics to leave what doesn't belong to them alone. I understand that and I may or may not do what was posted. My point is they have to prove they are mine. Maybe I am just out picking up trash in the woods. No I am not stealing them as they are "abandoned personal property". Oh my bad officer I thought I was cleaning up the environment of trash but I can put them back. Law enforcement has to have probable cause to charge you with a crime. You do not have to talk to a law enforcement officer. You have rights under the state and federal constitution and people need to know them. There is a great video on the net about never talk to the police and more need to educate them on why that is a good rule to follow. It is a law professor for the first half and then a detective on the other. The ones that are the most vulnerable are those that did nothing wrong. So there was a veiled threat of having to talk to the police made by an uneducated person in the way of the law. I also believe they made the comment about "assault on a federal officer" showing their ignorance when it would be battery and not assault. I am not afraid as I know I don't have to talk to the police, nobody does. I have made my argument so now am done with this thread. -
Here is the question before posting on Bowsight or Archery Talk and getting an argument going. I would rather have the argument here . My draw length is 30", draw weight 68# with a release. I am shooting a 29 1/4" arrow, measured from where the point screws in to where the nock meets string. Bow has been tuned to where broad heads and field point group together and I am shooting 100 grain Slick Trick Mags. The arrows are Carbon Express Mayhem Hunters with a .347 spine. I plan on going to chrono it at the bow shop to find out exactly how fast it is but I remember around 280 fps. I also plan on getting an actual arrow weight while I am there. When I shoot, especially with a lighted nock at long distance, it appears the tail is slightly corkscrewing. It appears the nock is traveling in about an 1"-2" diameter circle. When I say long distance I mean 60 yards and not 100. I did spin test all my broad heads and it happens with every arrow and not just one or two. Now I am thinking of changing arrows to Easton Axis or FMJ. Reading the Easton chart on arrow spine I am right on the cusp of 340 and 300 spine. I am going to increase arrow length a bit to use the Exodus head which would push me more towards the 300 spine. So now the question: Do you think if I go to a 300 spine and increase the head to 125 grains I will get rid of the corkscrew or should I just leave it alone? When I shoot my broad heads at 60 yards I am still getting about 1/2-2/3 of the arrow penetrating the target before it stops.

Why would I need to go talk to one when I can read. CAN YOU? You ready to admit you are wrong and just a thief if you touch a game camera that doesn't belong to you?- 91 replies

The way I see it is: it helped residents. I am not complaining as I live in NM and know NR have a tough time drawing here with no BP. It is going to increase points for NR to draw a tag. 5% go to NR's in the top pool. So if you have 150 NR with between 10-15 points that have been applying for one unit, 5 get taken out in the max pool draw, just an example, it is going to take 30 years to get rid of those point holders. Every year they will be increasing points as they apply so if that unit keeps the popularity it will not be able to be drawn in 30 years with 30 points as you still have all the 1-9 point holders to get out of the way. What it is going to do is make NR jump units to get drawn. If I had 11 points and had 100 in front of me with higher points I knew I would not be guaranteed a tag in that unit for about 20-24 years, but I could jump to a different unit that has 9 BP's applying and be guaranteed a tag, drawing out of the 5%. So as a NR I see it jumbling all the units being applied for by NR hunters.

We can't even use salt here in NM and we can only use cover scents on our person. No way am I going to spray doe or elk urine on myself. I am thinking about trying the tree stand thing since my work sometime requires me to be 20-50 feet off the ground; I figured why not?

REWARD OFFERED- TRAIL CAM THIEF IN PIC- REWARD
Red Sparky replied to elkwalker's topic in Trail Cameras
Here is my retort. First of let's look at the term abandoned. According to the dictionary: no longer held or thought of : given up. Now let's look at the forest service rules and regs: Nothing about not being able to use game cameras under the national rules, certain forest districts can have their special orders. The 72 hour rule applies to blinds and stands. Now under the 72 hour rule it says such property can be seized after 72 hours of no use, by the way the game cameras are still in use so the 72 hour rule doesn't apply. So let's go to the dictionary again for seize: to use legal or official power to take (something) So if I put out a game cam it is being used with the purpose of returning to get pictures so it is not abandoned. The forest service has no rules on using them, there are rules about not cutting or damaging trees however. So the FS can't seize them if you are not breaking any rules of damaging trees by putting them out. Now let's go to the dictionary again, hey you told us to read after all. To steal: to take (something that does not belong to you) in a way that is wrong or illegal : to take (something that you are not supposed to have) without asking for permission : to wrongly take and use (another person's idea, words, etc.) So these are thieves. Trail camera thieves. Now these thieves think they can do what they want without punishment. So if I am putting out trail cams in areas they might be stolen I have about 20 decoys I put out first. These "decoys" cost me about the same amount of 2 game cameras. These have non-lethal means that will scare the heck out of someone messing with the "cameras" and only cost me about 10 bucks each to make. When you open the door to some cameras a woman's vibrating egg is in a gourd with BB's that sounds like a rattle snake with flying spring loaded snakes flying out. There is also a note that says "Ha Ha you found 1 of 20 go find the others". Now on some I wrap a garden hose around the cable with the lock inside the box. If they want to use bolt cutters to cut the cable I have wired in parallel the + and - leads from an electric fence into the garden hose hooked to a 12 volt battery. Won't kill them but sure makes a nasty spark and it will shock the crap out of you if not using insulated tools. And wiring in parallel if you cut one wire there are more inside so it still works. Hiding about 20 rat traps in the way you might approach a camera. Hurts like heck if snapped on a foot. Just some ideas but not all I have in the bag of tricks. So it is time these thieves find easier pickings and I make sure I give them something to think about. I am not worried at all if somebody complains to LE about the decoy cameras. First they have to prove they are mine and second and the most important that people forget about. I don't have to talk to LE. People think they do but there is something called the 5th amendment of the US Constitution. Read it and you will understand. -
I haven't used one but I researched tree stands if I was going to use one, that would be the one I would buy. I hope they make a go of it as that seems like an awesome stand.

"get blinds and tree stands limited to only when in use and must be removed at the end of the day." Isn't that already on the books? Seems like the person telling us to read can't read themselves. Hint: Jack Rocks in camera location But you run those gumby flappers you call lips and try for the intimidation and threats run well that's where you get shut down. you tell the deputy you got into it over a camera or a blind, or some piece of public land you think is yours and see where that gets you sparky. That directed at me? If so I will be happy to retort. -

Here in NM it is bad. You can't corner hop so all trust land that is surrounded by private is off limits unless a public road gives you access. We have been having a fight with our new SLO Commissioner as he wanted $2 million to access state trust land rather than the previous $200,000 our G&F Commission negotiated for hunting and fishing access. The problem is, I am guessing, half our state trust land is land locked or checker boarded so we have to pay for access even though we can't use it. If we had access to all SLO land I would not complain about the $2 million but we have no increase of access and we only use the land 3-5 months out of the year. The other problem is we are not the primary lease holder so if the rancher says we are having a "round up" and hunting would interrupt us, we don't get to hunt that time. The oil company or any other primary lease holder has the same power. We have had land swaps to do what has been suggested to get rid of the checker board but the land owners get the cream and hunters get left with the hind tit. It is all about money and seems like AZ land owners looked at NM and I feel sorry for you all if it happens. I went to one G&F Commission meeting here when a ranch owner up by Cuba, NM and Los Alamos was whining about needing more LO tags to pay for the elk damage to the ranch. I said let hunters in and we will take care of the elk herd by reducing numbers. No that would not work they needed more LO tags.

If you are sweating then here is a tip. Carry your hunting clothes in in one of those storage bags that compress by rolling and not vacuum, a gallon zip lock bag and unscented baby wipes and baking soda. When you get in, not wearing your hunting gear, take a cool down period. Now you have to change so wipe down with the baby wipes and use baking soda like talc. Putting your sweat clothes in the bag and baby wipes in the zip lock. Basically it is like taking a bath in the woods with no water.

Senior in High School in Physics class watching on TV our teacher brought in. Pre flight we were talking about the change in G-forces and how to calculate them and other physics related parts of rocket launch. Afterwards we weren't talking but sitting teary eyed in shock.
