Or spinach. Always happens to me wonder what it did to poor Popeye.

I use to hunt there muzzleloader every year with my uncle and cousin. Killed many mule deer there. Saw a few coues does but not many where I hunted. Now that I am into archery I put in for deer in the same unit I put in for elk so hopefully I can hunt both at the same time.

Never really hunted turkey until my daughter wanted to start when she passed hunters ed five years ago. I am a NM native and always thought it was illegal to shoot turkeys on the roost here. I am not 100% on that though. I do remember when we use to buy deer, bear, and fall turkey on one license for $10.50. That would have been late 70's and early 80's and roosted birds were illegal back then. I am talking about NM here and not AZ. I was responding to IA Born's post, #12, on the first line in the yellow.

Yep. We often talk about this in Hunter Ed classes with kids. Some states have "...30 minutes before sunrise...30 minutes after sunset..." but Arizona's shooting hours law is more gray, just like it states above. I always print out a NOAA sunrise/sunset table for the area I'm hunting and then plan for about 30 minutes either side of what's listed for when shooting light starts/ends. That's usually a good approximation, but there's usually a few minutes either side of 30 minutes. the GnF could simplify it all by making a law like many other states where it is illegal to shoot a roosted bird. I agree wholeheartedly! I really wish AZ and NM would make that illegal (unless NM already/finally has and I missed it). A few years ago in NM, I know of a hunter in a group (from AZ) who walked in and shot a roosted bird at first shooting light. He walked right past some other hunters' set up and shot the bird right out of the tree as soon as he could see it clearly. I've seen plenty of birds still on roost at first shooting light and I know people that have shot them off their roost as soon as they could see a good beard. It is illegal to shoot a turkey on the roost. Here is the state law, section J, but I could not find it in the rules. 9.31.16.10 TURKEY MANNER AND METHOD REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS: A. Season and hours: Turkey may be hunted or taken only during open seasons and only during the period from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. B. Bag limit: It shall be unlawful for any person to hunt for or take more than the number and type of turkey during the current license year as specified by the hunt code printed on the permit or license unless otherwise provided by regulation. C. Seizure: Any conservation officer or other officer authorized to enforce game laws and regulations shall seize the carcasses of turkey(s) that are improperly notched. D. Proof of sex: It shall be unlawful for anyone to transport or possess the carcass of a turkey without proof of sex. When the required bag limit is a bearded turkey, the beard and a small patch of feathers surrounding the beard shall remain with the same turkey carcass until arriving at a residence, taxidermist, meat processing place, or place of final storage. E. Use of dogs in hunting: It shall be unlawful to use dogs to hunt turkey. F. Use of baits: It shall be unlawful for anyone to take or attempt to take any turkey by baiting. G. Live animals: It shall be unlawful to use live animals as a blind or decoy in taking or attempting to take any turkey. H. Use of calling devices: It shall be unlawful to use any electrically or mechanically recorded calling device in taking or attempting to take any turkey. I. Killing out-of-season: It shall be unlawful to kill any turkey out of turkey hunting season. J. Roost shooting: It shall be unlawful to shoot a turkey while it is located in a tree or structure used for resting. K. Legal weapon types for turkey are as follows: shotguns firing shot, including muzzle-loading shotguns; bows and arrows; and crossbows and bolts. L. Non-toxic shot use is required on all state game commission owned lands. M. Areas closed to hunting turkey: The following areas shall remain closed to hunting turkey, except as permitted by regulation: Sugarite canyon state park; Orilla Verde and Wild Rivers recreation areas, including the Taos valley overlook; all wildlife management areas except Humphries, Rio Chama, and Sargent WMAs; the Valle Vidal area; and Rattlesnake canyon in sub-unit 2A. You all are too worried anyhow. The G&F portal was also supposedly hacked and that is why the draw took so long. If it was I would be afraid all these "CC hits" are stealing money and nobody would report fraudulent activity on their account, it did start April 1 after all. Image the reactions if that was the case. Pending charge from AZG&F , hacked account not from AZG&F . I love this time of year for the entertainment value, but I still have to wait 3 weeks for results

You apparently mixed the 80+ page under the elk section:

So when you find a guides camera on FS land, and know it is a guides camera, do you make a report to the FS? You all do know that commercial use of cameras requires permits on FS land. So if it a guides camera, which seems to be the biggest complaint, they have to follow other rules than a regular hunter. Is it just easier to ban all cameras to make everyone suffer, lumping all camera users into the guide category? Now we are arguing that cameras make more game being harvested. I call BS on that one. First off the 320 bull you have at 20 yards may walk if you have pictures of a 400 bull. If you didn't know that 400 bull was in the area you might shoot the small bull and be successful, or eat tag soup waiting for that 400 bull. So show the results of more animals being killed because of cameras. I have gone through the success rates here in NM and each unit seems to be about the same every year. My theory is that game camera use has gone up and the harvest rate is staying about the same, so game camera use has not impacted harvest rates and may never do so. The other factor is I may be out running game cameras all year long and not get drawn. Just because you are running game cameras doesn't mean you are going hunting. Once again not wanting to be lumped in with guides and outfitters that are using them for commercial purposes. Sounds just like anti gunners----I don't like them so nobody should have them. Guides have 50 BMG's so nobody can use a .22.

I already know exactly where you found it.

Right next to where you hit post. It is a light grey box next to the black one.

According to AZG&F they should have shown on the portal before credit card hits. HMMM?????

I just got an e-mail from NMG&F Dept. on our draw over here.

In case you haven't heard they have a fire going by Ruidoso, NM (Unit 34) right close to the town. That really sucks as they had a major fire down there a few years ago and we enjoy "getting away" even if we have to deal with all the Texas tourist. They also have a fire going by Socorro, NM. I haven't heard but I would guess they were both man made. http://www.koat.com/news/wildfire-prompts-school-evacuation-in-ruidoso/38733716

That is why if you want to be stealthy you shoot subsonic rounds. Watch and listen to this for the difference in sound.

this thread is like a seed, it started and grew, lots of horse and bull sh!t fertilized it. Eventually it'll turn into results. I buy elk result seeds every year I just can't get them to grow into the results I want. I liked Seeds.

Dang it. I started watering my plants and reading this, now the street is going to grow a foot!

Is a 8 gauge to much gun for crow? I disagree with all of yas. Now that I am a shaky old geezer I believe hand grenades should be allowable for taking elk. No hand grenades and dynamite are for fishing, not elk.

Unless you live in Albuquerque. DOJ has stepped in to prevent the "excessive force pattern". Seems like every week there is an officer involved shooting. Now don't get me wrong I am pro-police, it is a dangerous job. When you are serving a night arrest warrant however, you should go to the correct address.

many Hunters also feel they should be able to Hunt the land without seeing cams hanging all over the unit or having their hunt disrupted by guys blabbing their jaws while making a racket to go check their cams during active Hunts . So what are we going to do with all the hunters who have the second hunt and are out scouting during, and disrupting the hunters who have the first hunt? Not running cams but driving all over the roads, walking to glass in the woods, hitting all the water spots, talking and loud in the woods. You pointed it out correctly, there are too many laws to enforce now, and the outlaws will ignore the new laws and only those that follow the rules will suffer. Sounds kind of like the fight against those wanting to ban guns. users who do not care about any of laws and go about driving quads off roads and trails and chopping up trees to place them.

I have an adult joke to tell you trpyhntr but PM's won't go through, maybe I am on your ignore list.

Also illegal for wildlife viewing as well USFS, BLM, etc. manages their lands for numerous outdoor activities. Game cameras and wildlife viewing are one of those activities. You can't infringe on my federally allowed activities with a state law.
-
Won't bother me one bit. I don't use my cameras for hunting, I use them for wildlife viewing. If they try to make it on private land as well it will not stand up. Telling me what I can and can't do on my land is unenforceable.

The only maps I have used on my gps is TOPO 2008. I am sure there are better maps but it does what I need.

Tried to send a PM but won't go through. So here is my "layman's view" of things. Get the legal advice from an attorney, I am not one but educated layman in the field. The "manager of the ranch" made a point of stating you could hunt the ranch like other hunters in the past. Now when he did this he was "an acting agent" of the ranch and bound the ranch with the e-mails and verbal statements until your tag is no good. You made a decision based on his statements to hunt before the other hunters to have no competition this year when your tag is still good. Now he has gone back on his word, thereby breaching the contract he made verbally and in writing. His actions, as an acting agent for the ranch, caused them to breach the contract also. He states he is "following orders" from higher up. Do his bosses know this or is he just telling you this? A letter sent from an attorney or notice of suit may make them aware of this fact. If they have no idea what is going on I am sure they would want to make it right. The only way to set a precedent is to have a ruling from a judge. It is either held up or overturned by the appellate court, and can be taken to the supreme court for the final ruling. Most cases don't go all the way to trial, rather an agreement can be made before it goes that far. So you need to decide if it is worth fighting the ranch or just go somewhere else.

That was me. Never thought it would go this long.
