Hopefully this front has brought as much rain down there as we are getting here to help thing out.

As soon as it is put out it falls under the "abandoned rule" so don't worry about the statute of limitations.

In the last 2 or 3 years they took the Organ Mountains down by Las Cruces and designated it a NM or NP not sure which. Big uproar saying that it couldn't be used for grazing, big uproar saying it would be harder to patrol for illegals, big uproar on many levels on why it shouldn't be designated. It was so it falls under this EO to see if it should be reverted back to what it was. It is a way for one President to undo what another President did without having to go through Congress to do it. From what I understand the federal land being reverted to the state is mainly spearheaded out of Nevada. I think that will take congress or a vote by the american people to add an amendment to the Constitution to get done.

If I knew where I lost it, it wouldn't be lost!

Wow! That thing is cool and weird looking at the same time.

Must purchase two days before hunting. Zone closes when 90% of total bears or 90% of females are taken. So if a zone has 100 total tags and 10 female tags, if the first 9 bears that are killed are female the zone is closed to bear hunting.

Looking at SLR's
Red Sparky replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
The cost of DSLR's is in the lenses. I bought my daughter a Nikon D3300 for her photography class. She likes it and it takes good pictures and video. Haven't used it to digiscope anything. Basically I think all the cameras have good bodies so find one that is comfortable and then look at the lenses for it. -
They are talking about going back to a carcass tag system where the carcass tag is mailed to you. You would have to fill out the carcass tag. If you lose your license then you can print out another one. If you lose your carcass tag you have to go to a G&F Field office to get another one and they void the first one. That is why they have the bar codes on them. The way it is now somebody could print out three licenses, say for archery elk. Kill a cow opening day, fill out one license and take the elk home and put it in the freezer. If they are not checked then they could go with the second license and keep hunting. The way I have seen the "legal" way of poaching is this. Dad, wife, two kids all have tags. Wife and kids never leave camp yet four deer are killed. So I guess there are people who are always going to "game the system". Hopefully they are the minority.

You have to wait for the mail? As soon as I saw green boxes for NM I went home and printed my tags so I had them that day. Not the best system as I can see it being abused by some not so honest hunters.

314 gross based on the two pictures.

17 is a good unit. Get in shape for steep mountains and 9000 foot elevation. Prepare to get away from the roads to run into elk consistently.

My Swifts are no longer made or I would tell you to get a set. I have the Swift Horizon Model 920 so it seems like the Cabela's are comparable for size and weight. I have had the Swift's for over 10 years and think I paid $75 new. I did a lot of research before buying them so I will let you know when mine get here and how they look.

New Mexico draw results out 2 weeks early!

The only way your too late to the game is if you never apply. -
I just ordered a set and should be here Tues/Wed. of next week. The 10x42's I have are Swift but I don't remember the model number. They have been really clear, waterproof and fog proof. They also didn't cost an arm and a leg so my daughters have bounced them around as I have. With my younger daughter starting to hunt I wanted to get her a decent set, better than the typical run of the mill glass you find at local stores, so I ordered her a set of the Cabela's. With my Swifts they carry easily and seem to be just about right for still hunting or looking across a canyon if I need to quickly. I really like the size of them and the FOV is, if I remember correctly, somewhere around 340 feet at 1000 yards so it is pretty easy to lock onto something close and not be pin holing your vision.

I would get the Cabela's Intensity HD 10x42. If you don't like them they have a pretty good return policy. I prefer 10x over 8x and the ones I use are pretty light to carry. Thinking about trying these out.

editing software or new camera?
Red Sparky replied to Red Sparky's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I will have to see if after I have it in MPEG format if I can put it in I-movie or Windows movie maker from a DVD disc. If it is on my hard drive, in a library, it will not import to either. The problem is it is not recorded in a MPEG file, that is why you have to use Imagemixer 3. After putting clips together and saving it in MPEG on Imagemixer 3 then you can burn it to disc as an MPEG and it plays fine. The problem I have and why I am frustrated is I took two days worth of short clips from our Washington DC trip and went to burn it to disc and I am .12 GB over the disc capacity. Now I haven't figured out how to clip the MPEG file to be able to burn it to a DVD. I am just frustrated at having to do what I consider extra steps. -

November 18th is a very lucky day. Don't ask me how I know. I bet NMG&F is laughing because all the guys on AT couldn't find a "back door" this year. I think that is why they posted early, beat them to the punch. -

Going deer and elk hunting -
The ones I use are Champion Xray Targets. They show bone structure and vitals. If you set them at 100 yards they are suppose to represent the size of an elk at 200 yards. So if you set them at 200 I would imagine the target size would be close to an elk at 400. It says they are discontinued but I found some here: http://www.luckygunner.com/targets-xray-elk-45904-champion-6-pack

It is a marker for the border wall. About 100 yards away you will find another one on a east to west line. JK. It looks like a geocache since it appears to be cemented to the rock.

That is why RV Techs refer to pop ups as a "lunch box for a bear".

Pros: Easy to tow. Helps on gas milage due to lower profile. Easy to set up. Cons: Look at the tires and suspension to get full size tires. Otherwise ground clearance will be an issue. If the lift system breaks while out you are screwed. Still has canvas likes a tent which can sun rot or mold if put away wet.
