I have yet to watch a pro football game this year.

Go look at any new car lot, atv or quad lot, boat lot and see there is a "transportation fee". You get to pay the fee to get it to the dealers lot so you could buy it. Especially when they get 4-5 cars on one semi load and then want to charge you about $1800 transportation for the car. I got my CJ transported from my sisters in Austin to Albuquerque, in a covered car hauler, for $600. So the hazmat fee is not charged by the shipper but by the carrier they use. Even if you are getting "free shipping" you are paying for it somehow. I have no problem if I am buying something online to pay for shipping. I usually order early so I don't need it right now and pay the cheapest shipping I can. Got some things coming from China so it will be three to four weeks to get here, but hey, I am getting "free shipping".

Coyote in the Grill
Red Sparky replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
I remember the days cars were made out of real steel and not plastic. Maybe he has some cat in his blood and used up one of his 9 lives. -
I was elk hunting the unit up north. Only saw coues does but the mulies I saw were impressive. There was feed and water everywhere. Should be a good year as I am looking forward to going back in January.

Sorry...I can't get the image of Jim Shockey and Will Primos having a kid. That image would never have been in my head until reading that.

Most efficient way to paint an interior with airless sprayer
Red Sparky replied to CatfishKev's topic in The Campfire
Hire somebody else to do it is the most efficient way I have found. -
Just pulled up the draw odds for NM this year. There are going to be less hunters on my elk hunt since I drew with 50 less hunters. Drew the second hunt instead of the first, 40% chance to draw on first choice as a resident and 20% chance to draw the tag overall first choice. The other good news is there are about 200 less deer tags this year. Elk and deer archery are at the same time. Come on September!

Since the wind usually comes from the west I thought it was because Texas sucks.

Horrible news. Yes if it was illegal then new laws would not make a difference as he should not have had it to begin with. We have a trip planned out there over Christmas and it is definitely going to be different. As far as bump firing you don't need a special stock to do it. You can reach speeds of 800 rounds per minute with a standard semi-auto rifle.

Threw up a quick trail cam in late July. Out of the way place on a trail into one of my stands and not on water so I just threw it up with a strap. It was about 7 1/2 feet high, facing North, angled downward. I am 6' 4" and you can see the top of my hat in the first picture. The date and time are correct so you can see how long I got pictures.

Well I din't get one. Winds were 20+ mph every day all day and night it seemed like. I din't take my jacket off except to go to bed. Called in some bulls and every time they got to within 100 yards the wind would switch directly to them. That or spend time walking 1 mile to get to blind set up with wind in face and 10 minutes after getting there the wind would switch. I had a good time anyhow. Hopefully the NM draw is good to me next year.

Officially off the grid for elk and coues. Be back the 25th to let everyone know I didn't get one.

Nice to see NM looking green rather than brown dust.

A secret spot is only secret if only one person knows about it. Nice offer and hope you get to help somebody out.

Do antlers dry out and shrink as the year goes on?
Red Sparky replied to trphyhntr's topic in Coues Biology
They don't shrink. That is why is there a 60 day drying out period for "official" scores after harvest. -
Depends on the mood I am in. I hate all snakes. Around my house they die, out in the wild if they have coiled and made noise they are not as good to eat. If they are stretched out in an arroyo warming up during bird season 12 gauge bird shot to the head and dinner for the night. Are they big enough for a hat band? Killed one, about 6 foot long, during bird season and threw him in my buddies bag to take home. The house about cleared out with new doors when he didn't know it was in there and dumped his bag. About 10 people in the kitchen took off in different directions at once.

I bet there are some elk that had "antler envy". Cool story and nice buck.

One way road, or use to be road with all the trees fallen across it into a tank, during the first hunt, I will put up a sign if I am hunting the tank. Just a sign to let people know I am down there and they can come down or not. The first year I got tired of second season hunters scouting and ruining my hunts with a "We didn't know anybody was hunting here" response. I tell all hunters I run into they can hunt the tank and we all use the sign when we are there and take it down when we are not. Most hunters I run into we work around each other as it is big country and no reason to be running over each other. Saves 1 mile round trip walk.

Lucky you all can still FB. I have been permanently banned from there. Now I use my daughters account to keep up with friends and family.

True but I bought my daughters stuff in the bargain cave for half price. You get what you pay for and should not skimp on kids stuff even though they will quickly outgrow it. My daughters have never been cold or wet out hunting. We have been in snow storms in November where the high was in the 20's and nights close to zero. Four years of hard hunting and the Cabela's still looked new when we handed it down to family. After 7 years, older daughters stuff I bought when she was 10, is still going strong.
