Thanks again. When possible I like to go stealth when roads permit. Will make faster time driving up there too with better mileage.

well just got back from hunting turkey in 6a. We left around noon on Thursday and came back around 11am on Sunday. we camped off the 229 road. i hunted all around that area..... no luck for me this year on birds but on the last day i found the tank the birds were using. i saw an old guy on that tank friday night and he told me he was going to hunt there the next day so i never went up to the water and checked for sign. he told me "couple of tracks...nothing speciial"...yeah right....when i hit checked it on the way home sunday there were a shitload of tracks. i think a couple birds were taken there over the weekend. anyway, no biggie...it was a glorified camping trip with a shotgun in my hand anyway..... on a related topic, saw 10 antelope up there with two nice shooters. Also saw a dozen or so muleys...no bucks. What surprised me the most is that i didn't see a single elk. usually it's pretty easy to spot them late at night or early am (at least spook some cows right????). On this trip nada, zip, nothing. not that i was actively pursuing elk but still you should see something...On Thursday night i heard a few distant bugles but nothing like i used to experience in that area. As soon as people started showing up and road hunting that shut down Friday onward. i saw some elk sign l but nothing real fresh or heavy....not sure where they all bailed to. one guy thought they may have moved to the wallow fire area as that's where G&F is putting fresh grass seed. with that said, i did see game and fish pulling this guy out. they believed it was a wounded bull during archery...that's a real solid bull for 6a. whoever lost this guy must be crying still.... if anyone is going back up to chase birds this week send me a pm and i'll tell you where that tank was. time to start mentally preparing for my 12E muzzleloader hunt. heading up to scout on 10/16 and then 4 days before the hunt as well. cheers, miles

a custom rem 700 in a 7mm Rem Mag caliber. -
hey guys, as mentioned in a previous post, i'm going to start reloading. i heard good things about the Berger 168gr hunting VLDs so lets consider that the starting point. what powder, brass, primers, and load are you guys using? i was going to buy the Berger reloading manual and start reading up on the details there but if i can get a head start with your best known methods that'd be appreciated. thanks miles

southern Indiana last year. Muzzleloader buck...freezing cold...right when that Alaskan freeze blew through the country... -
in my view all the major OEMs are making solid quads nowadays. aside from features it'll boil down to what you like...same debate as ford, gm, dodge, etc. focus more on features instead. the main ones in my mind is: at least 450cc, independent rear suspension (for smoother ride), fuel injection, 4WD, a Low and High Gear (to pull an elk out if you have to...), power steering (not a must have but from what i hear an awesome feature)

anyone have one they want to let me borrow or sell? i live in chandler...thanks.

i'm chartering a custom build for a 7mm rem mag. should be ready in 2-3 months. my goals with the rifle is to become my all around hunting rig, but i also want to become proficient out to 1000 yards. with that said, it's clear i'm going to have to reload to get that level of performance. can you guys give me a list of some must have items to get my reloading setup going? sounds like a few guys recommend the rcbs press. i see they sell a "kit" for 350 or so...i'm hesitant to buy the kit if certain parts of it suck (scale, powder measurer, etc etc). so if you guys can share your best known methods with respect to what works the best, is repeatable, quality, etc i'd appreciate it.

thanks. did you get the 300+ dollar one or the one for 190....i checked midway usa and i can't tell the difference btw the two except the price....

best place to procure for custom build
Green Bullet posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
where does everyone recommend i go to buy parts for a future custom build? i'm a lefty so in particular i want to make sure there is a good selection of LH actions. Thanks Miles -
When you buy a new barrel from Brux does it come chambered and ready to screw into an action or do you need to take it to a gunsmith for chambering?
-
Thx

At least you were in elk. You'd feel shittier if you didn't see jack.
