I know there have been a few threads on this, but i want to recheck the current community thinking around hunting blinds. My son (11 yo) drew a turkey tag in April. I don't envision him being able to sit very still for long periods of time so my plan going in (subject to change) is to find water they're hitting and sit in a blind with him. I hear great things about the Double Bull ground blinds but $400 is kind of steep. If it's the "deal" then i'm fine buying one but looking to get input on other alternatives that are durable, quiet, shoot through netting, utility for archery and rifle hunting (pretty much anything). If i could buy two blinds for the price of a Double Bull that would be cool. Thanks for the suggestions.

i'm shooting a hoyt charger at 65 lbs, FMW Deep Six at 26.5" in length, 330 spine. i've been using the Rage Hypos at 100gr. I bought the bow last year and it's been shooting well but seems like the last couple months i'm really erratic at 30yds (haven't gone farther than that recently). Groups are not tight like i'd want them to be and sometime i feel like i can see a curve near the point of impact (almost like a corkscrew). Could be my shitty shooting but wondering if after a year the bow may needs re-tuning due to string stretch. Thoughts on that? On the topic, after some additional research I've learned that i may have too stiff of an arrow for my arrow length and draw weight. It looks like i'd be better suited for the 400 spine (wish they would have mentioned that at the archery shop). Now I have like 9 nice arrows that i don't want to toss....so i'm thinking about increasing my draw weight to 70lbs. Using the chart data it looks like it'll just get me back into "spec". If I go to a 125gr broadhead it's put be squarely in spec. Any suggestions on what i should do? Logic says i should go one step at a time (draw weight, then heavier head)...but if there's no big downside to shooting a heaver broadhead i'd be fine with that since i'm guessing it'll probably net out with the increased draw weight. i personally think we're having the wrong debate. Having a pair of 12s around your neck and 15s for glassing doesn't make alot of sense to me...the delta btw the two in capability is too little. If i were in your shoes, i'd keep the Nikon 10s around your neck and upgrade the 15s to the Swaros or 15 Euros. You've received alot of feedback already so take your pick...i think Swaro 15s for $1500 used is a good buy and when you want to sell them they'll hold their value better. When you're ready to upgrade the glass around your neck stick with 10s but a better brand. For me, i like lite glass around my neck for up close and personal situations, less clutter around my neck, less to worry about banging around, etc...when i'm going to sit behind the glass for a couple of hours and work an area i use my 15s not 12s or 10s. When you're really going long range you want 15s not 12s in my opinion....i want to see well from 1000 yards away not just recognize it's an animal with 12s. Now with all that said, if you're really hung up on 12s around your neck, then you'd need to ditch the15s and get a spotter so you have a nice delta capability wise but considering what you have now i think that's going to cost you more money. I had Nikon 10s Monarches and Kaibabs, bought Swaro 15s first, then bought Razor 10s around my neck and put hte Nikon's in my truck for "emergencies" and this worked out well for me. The Razors are really good in my opinion...i couldn't justify the money for the Swaros as i'm not all that sensitive to quality when i'm using lower power glass (but i'm not saying put garbage around your neck to be clear). we shot it through paper today and it was perfect. i chrono'd it as well...only 241 fps....ughh. After this archery hunt is over i'm going to put new strings on it, crank it up to 70lbs draw weight, and put a 3 sight slider (already on order) and redial it in.

i need to pick up a few broadheads today so i'm going to check my FOC and chrono while i'm there. i think you guys convinced me to put new strings on it even though it's shooting pretty sweet right now after the aforementioned adjustments. i heard the hogwire strings are good. thoughts?

I'm not sure I need a new one quite yet but what I learned is the bow settled in after it was new and I should have proactively got it readjusted. Shot the bow last night and my groups are a lot tighter and the sound has much less of a springy sound to it. Probably get a new string if I get lucky enough to draw a bull tag.

Just learned the timing was off and my draw at dropped from 65 to 62. Reset everything so I'm hopeful the groups tighten up.

Yes i realized that. So instead of dumping a bunch of good arrows i was thinking about increasing my draw weight and maybe using 125 gr heads. Do you think that's do-able?

I have a custom 7mm rem mag that i built at phx custom rifles...overall it's everything i wanted it to be. shoots 1/4 MOA and stinks of quality.... now that i have the bug, i'm thinking about doing another rifle. i'm not keen on dropping the kind of money i did on the first build though. i'm looking for something that is off the shelf and with some reloading i can get it to 1/2 MOA +/-. I'd like it to be a lower caliber setup that i could get my kids started on, but not so low that it's use in the field is narrow. Something good for deer, cow elk, bull elk (with a well placed shot or right bullet), and long range target shooting (up to 1k). I was thinking a 6.5 CM would be a good step down from the 7 mag but still offer that utility. Question 1: i'm confused by all the various derivatives of 6.5. Can someone explain the differences? i'd like to identify a version with good ballistics and ideally one that will prolong barrel life. Question 2: As to the platform, i'm considering a Tika Lite or Savage LRH. Thoughts? Any other option i should consider? i'm thinking a grand for the rifle (give or take) and maybe a nice vortex scope or something better i find used but in good shape. Thx Miles

No Mark, you didnt miss the rut...( deer do not all come into heat at the same time, Bucks will be actively seeking for weeks to come...) i was down there last weekend. on certain hills it's only does...on others it's on. it got a lot better after that last storm when it got very cold. you didn't miss anything...still developing in my opinion.

thanks for all the ideas guys. i think i'll go naked and wrap them up in a small handtowel or tee shirt (something that has multiple purposes).
