Best rifle cartridge for open terrain - Unit 21 Whitetail hunt
GhostTracker180 replied to Desert Rat's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I use a 300 ultra mag and don't think it is over kill. Good for extreme distance. Take a look at a 25-06. Good luck on your hunt! -

Any recent scouting reports?
GhostTracker180 replied to GhostTracker180's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
That's good to hear! Nice photos guys! Thanks! -
I have not had a chance to get out yet this year to scout. With all the extra moisture, I expect the deer herd in the southern half of Az should be in good shape. Horns should be excellent this year. Anyone, been out and seening bucks better than last year or more of them? What are y'all's thoughts for the up coming seasons?

Nice bucks in video. I would think south of the border or atleast south of Tucson. 32 is limited access and a long drive back in. Does have some good bucks tho! Good luck!
-
Good Luck! Should be a good year for horns!

125-135 ish!

So, 20 years ago there were super bucks and abundant in some units. Think the quality is back, not back or better? Post your opinions. I think better bucks were more abundant years back! Y'all?

I think it is Air Force training. But, could be wrong!!

I think it varies. Late spring and summer months, if dry, are hard on the deer herds. I think they adjust locations for food and water. The big, mature bucks I think are loners and live in romote locations, out in the flats, away from the populations of doe's and younger bucks. Combine that with being mostly nocturnal and they become hard to find most of the year, but not impossible. I know others may question my opinion, but it is just that, my opinion from years of hunting. I think cool weather and the coming rut get them mor active and closer to the doe's around December. And, I am refering to desert mulies. Use your game cams right and you may find his core living area. Good luck!
