Does anyone think Amanda will go for this?
ScottAdams replied to BASS's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I love the idea. -
Bret, I went out Friday into one of my Bear spots. Saw no bears even though the prickly pear put off a bumper crop of fruit this year. The reason? The oaks also put off a bumper crop of acorns and it has been my experience that bears prefer the acorns to the cactus fruit. I think we may see some bears in the cactus but most and the the biggest bears I believe will be lurking among the oak bushes. I only saw 2 Coues does on the trip also. Scott

Jeff, I sent him an email. I'll hook him up with a nice matching set. Scott -
I work for Phelps Dodge at their copper mine in Morenci. Been there 15 years. I'm a general shift supervisor over a mine operations crew. I work 12 hour shifts so basically only work 6 months out of the year and am off the other 6. Generally gives me plenty of time to be out in the hills. The mine is located in unit 27 and that is where I spend most of my outdoor time. Scott

I went to the grand opening of the new Cabela's in Fort Worth, Texas this morning. What a blast!!! I met Chuck Adams and some of the other hunting celebrities. I somehow made it of there for only $300. We all need to try to make the Grand Opening of the one in Glendale, they are really nice. Bring lots of cash though. Scott

I drew the 27/28 December Coues along with my youngest son. Here we go!!! Scott

Dan they didn't have any seminars that I saw. There were hunting celebs but they were selling books and dvd's and signing autographs. Man what a place though. I'll try to post a couple of photos if I can get a chance. Scott -

Keith, actually I do have a photo of me packing out this monster. He was deboned and still liked to have killed me. I'll see if I can find it and scan it. Scott -

I may see you there Doug. Let me know if you would like some company on your scouting trips. I'm just about 40 minutes from some Coues spots in 23. Scott

Well, I just sent Arizona Game & Fish over $1,400 in tag and application fees for the family! Wow!! Sounds kind of strange saying it, but I hope they keep most of it. Let the wait begin. Scott

Permit Aps Mailed Off
ScottAdams replied to ScottAdams's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Kevin, I applied for the Burros for whitetail and unit 23. Bill, that South American hunt sounds interesting. You never know you may be the lucky recipient of a unit 1 bull tag. Stranger things have happened, although not much stranger. Scott -

At 41, I mostly run to keep in shape for the hunts. I run anywhere from 3 to 5 days a week. Usually 3 or 4 miles but I did 6 this morning. I try to get in a trail run every couple of weeks too. I go in on some of the trails I hike in to Coues hunt. Trail running is a lot tougher than I thought it would be. Probably because most of the trails that take you into good Coues habitat are near vertical one way or another. Even so they say the best way to get in shape for hunt is to do what you do on your hunt, which would be to strap the pack on and start hiking those hills. Scott I don't know how much longer I'll packing out deer like this!!

Thank you for all the heartfelt birthday wishes!! I guess 41 doesn't really feel any different than 40 did. I didn't do anything yesterday but sleep most of the day since I worked all night the night before. The good news is my wife gave me the "nod" when I told her I wanted a hunt for my birthday. So I guess it's either the reservation Coues tag or the trip to New Guinea to hunt tsar and chamois. I'll wait a bit and see which one. Rich I didn't use the goats at all last season. My wife says to start using them or lose them so I guess I better get busy. Anyone up for a packgoat trip into the backcountry of Arizona's unit 27? Anyway thanks everybody and I'll try to spend a little more time over here in the off season. Scott

I don't know if anyone has seen the Mens Channel on Dish Network or not. It's on channel 218 and has a lot of good hunting shows. It's been on the air a while but I just found it. In the afternoon and evening they have back to back hunting shows, and I'm not talking turkey hunting or waterfowl, but Big Game! I've watched archery Caribou, Elk, Montana Whitetail and Muley, Black bear, Mountain Lion. It's really good. So far my favorite show is The Best In The West, check it out tonight at 9:30 Eastern which is 7:30 here, I think. At lot of you will love their video on Long Range Hunting called Beyond Belief. It's supposed to have a Coues hunt in it, I've got it on order. Here's the link to their website. The Best in the West Scott
