Rattlesnake avoidance training
Upland81 replied to Tres's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Both my girls have been through this it is way better than the vaccine IMHO. My 8yr dog got rechecked in October and it had been 5 years since she went through this initially and the training stuck. -
Bruno's has been on the higher end since the last shortage to begin with this doesn't shock me. I bought primers in the fall at a shop in Tucson that had price tags over price tags showing they doubled their primer cost.

It's the government so they spend 12 million to generate that 3 million I am sure.

You know Arizona/New Mexico is in almost every upland magazine every month. I currently live in Vail and you will see trucks with dog boxes all the from Dec-Feb with out of state plates coming to hunt here. AZ also has two very popular NSTRA clubs as well. Bird hunting is a big deal in AZ just as in Illinois where I grew up as well. I might be a big game hunter on a big game form but I identify as a bird hunter more so. Tres is your dog from Arlette and Steve?

I am not a Berger fan myself either. I think they are a great bullet and accurate but in a lot of cases they are used to make a cartridge something it was never designed for. I rather go with other choices for less money. Yet this is the good old fashion ford, chevy, toyota debate.

Look at the age of the 6mm if it's an old 600 it wont shoot the heavy bullets but the newer 6mms have a1:10 twist. I load a 85gr speer with 45gr imr4350 and have killed 2 wt and 3 mule deer none of them complained. I am also getting sub moa. I have also killed one buck with tipped triple shock in 80 or 85gr I am not sure which one is tipped and which one is not. I would caution you on small bonded bullets they don't leave great exit wounds in result leaving little to no blood trail. That is why I switched to a conventional bullet and have not had a jacket failure issue like some would be concerned with on a bullet going 3360. End of the day pick what shoots well and use it but know the limitations of the bullet.

Awesome I have a friend in Mesa Mike Fisher that breeds them. They are great dogs. I personally like little dogs hints the French Brittany.

Not much better than a bird dog. If you're new to it take a look at AZPDC their website is easy AZPDC.org or look into NAVHDA both are great places to meet up with people who can help you train!

Just wanted to invite everyone who has a pointing dog out to this years season with Arizona Pointing Dog Club. It's an amateur club based on helping you train your dog for the next years season. There is also a monthly field trial held from April all the way through September with a tournament of champions held in October. All the trials other than Aprils are held up north near Flagstaff and the April trial will be in Coolidge at the Desert Pheasant Recreation Club. The scoring format is based on the AKC master hunter test that scores based on finds, steadiness, honoring, and retrieves. There are three different classes that the trials are also held in. The "Hunter Class" is focused towards dogs that are younger or still in training. The dog is scored on his/her ability to find birds and hold a point for 3 seconds, retrieve to within 15 feet, honor other dogs on point, and be steady to flush on unpointed birds. Since this level is focuses towards training you dog can be ran on a check cord and e collar. This is also a great class for the beginner handler who wants to run his dog on birds all summer and just have fun. The middle class is the "Shooting Dog Class" which is the most popular and could be considered the competitive class. The scoring is based on your dog being steady to wing, flush, shot, fall, and release. The retrieve must also be more tuned up and back to within 3 feet and additional points for delivered to hand. As above you are also scored on steady to flush and honoring. Your dog at this level can still be ran on an e collar. The final group is the "Gun Dog Class" which is scored the same as the Shooting Dog however no e collar can be used. I understand that this might sound like a competitive group that is focused towards trials however it is driven by fun. The trials are a welcome place for camping and fun with the family. It also is a great way to get out with your best friend during the off season and hunt quail in the cooler mountains. Take a look at the website azpdc.org and hope to see you out this summer. If you have any questions shoot me a PM.
