Get the 15's. Much more vital in my opinion as you're going to spend the majority of your time sitting on your butt behind a tripod anyways. I won't go anywhere without my Swaro 15's. They are AWESOME. I call them my crutch . I'd upgrade the 10's as well, but you can save and do that later.

CnS, The dealer/shop situation isn't the only reason, but i admit is is a reason. I've been out of archery for quite some time so don't know enough about this stuff to even tune my own bow, so i plan on relying heavily on a shop for work and advice, etc. But the Bowtech guy said he'd help me no matter what i bought, and he's like 10 minutes form my house so i'll go to him no matter what, but he does obviously know Bowtech better. The SB XT and the Guardian are both really great bows, and i don't know if you could go wrong with either one. I'm actually going down to shoot the Guardian again tomorrow (3rd time ) and am going to shoot some groups. I'll let you know. Long shots are definitely a concern as I'll be hunting Nevada and AZ. The model I'm ordering (Guardian) is supposed to have zero cam lean issues. I did say supposed, because i have heard of some issues at longer draw lengths (i'm 29"). It's that new center pivot design, and from what i hear, they have had some great success downrange (over 50 yards) with it. Honestly, i probably would have gone with the SB XT except i don't like the owner from that shop. His 'after the sale attention' is an issue to say the least. The bowtech guy seems like a great guy, and the Guardian felt awesome to me. Time will tell i guess.

Addict, that is a great shot on a great buck! But Coues 'n' Sheep i HAVE to see this 100 yard group thing. Can you please post some pics of that or even a video? I'm not saying you can't do it, i just want to see it. That would be amazing. Then, can i come down and get some shooting lessons!

Interesting question. The horns will burn, i have seen that happen unfortunately when a guy left his skull in a boiling pot over the fire for too long . But i don't know if it was a quick fire that they would burn up completely. If i were those FS guys I'd be picking them up for sure though...

I know, I know, it's a Carp. But I live in Vegas so I don't exactly live anywhere near prime Coues country. Great shed though, has nice mass and palmation (although most of it doesn't measure) and has nice length. I scored it at 89" and change.

Nevada has some great mule deer, but they are hard to hunt. Most of the country is simply enormous. I hunted AZ all over when i was a kid (Moved to Vegas when i was 14) and never saw country like this. Lots of sagebrush and huge mountains. But if you know where to go, and can get lucky , you can kill a nice buck. My biggest is 170 net. There was a cactus buck killed last year that went 306 gross if that answers any questions .

Thanks. He's not very wide, i'd guess like 23 inside, so if he matched he'd just break 200. Like 202 or so.

My old man has 2 HS rifles (270 short and 300 short) and he likes them. I don't think they are quite as accurate as advertised, but that's splitting hairs as he's done plenty well with them; i don't think he's ever missed with them! Their stocks are nothing spectacular in my opinion, although they do have alot of options. I recently bought a Christiansen Arms rifle with an MPI thumbhole and he now wants one if that tells you anything. I also have a Sendero and it's a laser. One of my favorite rifles.

I would REALLY look at a Christensen Arms for what you are looking for. Amazing rifles, with incredible accuracy, and extremely lightweight. I have a 300 ultra from them and i get about 3" groups out of it at 550 yards under FIELD conditions. Not a bench rest. And the gun weighs about 7lbs scoped. All built off of a Remington action. To answer your stock question, synthetic stocks are more accurate and are typically lighter than wood. The only advantage you have in wood is the looks. But i think my rifle is gorgeous, maybe i'll try and post a pic . Also, if you are looking to shoot out to 500 yards i would stay away from the 243. Just not enough punch at that range. Not to mention that a small amount of wind can play havoc with that bullet at that range. For deer size game at 500 yards I would recommend a 270 or a 30 caliber. If recoil and ammo cost is a concern, the 270 is the obvious choice of those 2. However, for an all around caliber that you can stretch out past that 500 mark if you really had to, my personal choice is the 300. Good luck with your purchase.

Archerytalk.com has an amazing amount of information. The review board is down, but there are Archery Tech Evaluations under the main boards page that has some review info. Unfortunately it was done last year so the Drenaline and center pivot Bowtechs are not on there. It is a HUGE board (17,000 active members, 70,000 total). But be careful. There are lots of biased opinions and fan boys bashing other brands on there so take everything with a grain of salt. I too am in the market for a new bow and have been combing that place for info. You can learn alot if you find the right guys. I've had the best luck sending guys PM's that i saw had bows i was interested in. Also use the search engine to find threads on the bows you mentioned. I just shot the Drenaline literally less than an hour ago, and it is sweet. Not as dead in the hand as the Switchback, but it feels like a feather on the hold. The Guardian is another sweet bow and it looks awesome. Supposed to be a real tack driver. Wish i could help you with places to shoot, but i live in Vegas. I'd recommend using the dealer locater on the Matthews, Bowtech, etc websites to find dealers near you who have what you want, and then shoot as many bows as you can get your hands on. I have that scope and love it, but i'm not a fan of that reticle. too much to figure. I went with the turret system which Leupold installed for 90 bucks. They can also do a custom turret with your particular load for 60 bucks more. So all i do is range, dial, and drop 'em . Seriously, i do like that system. It works at any magnification, and if i change my bullets or load, i can get a new turret for 60 more bucks. Takes less than 30 seconds to switch them out.

Yeah man, don't kid yourself, thats a great buck. I love the mass. too bad he was broke. Alot of people would be happy with that buck after hunting 5 days, let alone 1/2 day. Congrats.
