I use a Leupold VXL 4.5-14 x56mm (the one with the cut out of the bottom) with custom turrets from Leupold and really like it. Not that i would shoot at game that far, but i practice with it out to 1000 yards and have been very impressed with the setup. You can get much fancier depending on your wallet (Nightforce, etc) but Leupold has always worked great for me and the 14 power allows me to shoot far pretty comfortably while still having a 4.5 power low end for closer shots and better target acquisition on moving animals. Just my 2 cents.

Is this carp real.

I agree, that has to be fake. I have no proof except that it's ridiculously gi-normous and the whole world would have known about a deer like that being killed. -
Twelve Days of Christmas: 34A Coues Hunt
Coues Sniper replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Doug - Beautiful write up and pictures. I really enjoyed reading your story, but am sorry it had a tough ending - for now. I hope you are able to get back out there soon and find your deer. I too know the sickening feeling of losing a bloodtrail; I lost blood on an elk this year and thought for sure he was lost. Some good friends however came to help and somehow found blood 800 yards later, and we found my bull. I hope your story ends that way too. Good luck. Kevin -
Sweet buck, and even better story man! Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Careful cubsfan - it only gets worse! Wait till you get an arrow in one! Good luck on your hunt.

I hope it shoots as good as it looks. Sweet rifle.

Wow, great set. And you found it together which makes it even better. You did get robbed on that 5, but those 2's are crazy man!

Bringing deer meat back into the US from Mexico
Coues Sniper replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Amanda, you can bring meat in with no problem. It does not need to be frozen. -
So, CRB, are you going to let us in on what that sucker scored???
-
Sweet buck, congrats!!!

Neat buck man, congrats. I love it when the main beams almost touch like that. Killing it with your dad makes it that much better! Congrats again, Kevin

Question on another site
Coues Sniper replied to CouesFanatic's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
There are other websites out there??? And i"m pretty sure that anytime your question has the word "shed", "antler", or "old dirty blaze orange" in it, Josh is the guy to ask. -
Wow, great buck. And his first Coues???
-
Good advice above... Double Bull says the whitetail is one of the only animals that will avoid a blind on a same day set-up.. That being said, I've set one up in the morning and had over 50 Coues come to water within sight of it. Course the biggest buck was in the mid 70's
-
Now that's freaking awesome! Great video work Jim, as always. Congrats guys on a great ram.
-
Now that's a pig! I'd say it's gotta be in the mid 50's, but my scoring abilities have come into question lately Great find.

R&Aballardcouesfamily, I did think of one thing that helps us when we boil the skull, and that's take the brain out. If you leave the brain in when you boil it makes a giant mess. The brain must be real fatty because when you cook a skull with it in it gets white greasy stuff everywhere and makes the rest of the skull hard to clean. It's really simple to take out "raw", just slip a piece of wire or even a small stick in there and break it up and it comes out pretty easy. We also try to get as much meat off the head as possible before we boil as well. Hope that helps. Thanks Jim! Have you guys gone down to Mexico yet?
