    Spotter vs. 15's

I carry 15's and a spotter in my pack, religiously. 15's are for glassing, spotter is for scoring/checking out "deer looking rocks". I can't glass with my scope very long before my eye feels strained and I'm not comfortable. Therefore I don't use it to glass at all if I can. Comfort is key when glassing.

    Anybody recognize this buck?

Good to see the brotherhood of hunters is alive and well. All you're missing is a "Nanny nanny boo boo". Great post there Tubby.
  5. Stud ram. Doesn't come out far, but that side view is beyond impressive. Congrats.

Coueszilla, better to be lucky than good

Sweet mercy. I agree, progression shots WITH the harvested rack would be amazing.

    Berger bullets for hunting

Best advice on this thread. It's like the never ending broad head debate - which one is best. Bergers are a great bullet, as are several others. They're definitely worth a try anyways.

Jim, make with more pics man.
  9. Wow!!! What a great ram - and a Nelsoni??? Is this the first raffle ram to book since they excluded southern units? Huge congrats guys, what an awesome ram.

    Elk/Moose Hybrid?

I think it's just a moose with zero palmation. I've seen it like that with smaller moose, but nothing that big. It's just a freak.

    Bipod or Shooting Sticks?

I carry both. A Harris 6-9" is perfect for prone. Get the model with legs segments, really handy. If grass, etc., is too tall I use the sticks or I also carry a home brew "shooter" for my tripod and use the sticks for the rear support. If I had to choose one, it would be the bipod - no question. I'm not sure why people think bipods are useless. 4 of the last 5 deer I have killed were shot prone.
  12. Score schmore. That buck is dopetastic.

Insane deer. Huge congrats to you Jim, and the lucky hunter. It's a great year to have a coues tag. More pics, and even though it doesn't matter - what did it tape?

    Wow. Looks bigger.

    Mature buck or freak?

My guess is, the 6x2 isn't that old and isn't a cactus buck. He's might be a freak, or he could have injured his G-2 early on. Hard to say of course. Both are neat bucks.

Is he a 2x3??? Sweet frame.

Is a .243 Winchester an Ethical Elk Gun???

Who wouldn't? This is a fairly silly statement. The problem is, just because it's a lighter caliber, doesn't mean it will be a better shot. Everyone has made a poor shot in their lives. A poor shot on an elk with an 80 grain bullet could mean disaster, where a larger bullet might not have. There's a lot of variable here and it's something that could be (and has been, on here) argued forever. I just think an 80 grain bullet is just asking for trouble with elk.

    Spotter vs bino's??

I honestly couldn't imagine hunting Coues without both. Wouldn't leave camp with out the 15's and the 80mm scope.
