I'd wager you're close on our guess. I can't tell if he has brows or not, if he does they're small, which hurts him. -

Boy's first big game rifle, suggestions?
Coues Sniper replied to lfootmatt's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
A very good cartridge with excellent long range potential (read - won't grow out of) that hasn't been mentioned is the 7mm WSM. Nothing wrong with the two you are considering either. But that 7mm WSM... nice round. -

Mexico 08/09! (Long & Pic Heavy)

Phil, congrats on a great buck. I really like his mass and horn color. Sweet buck -
I try to spend most of my off season free time researching new areas and, starting this year, reloading. Can't wait to try the 210 Bergers and 208 A-Max's in my 300 RUM and fling some lead at some coyotes while looking for sheds and possible honey holes up here in my neck of the woods. Carp only though

Great buck TAM, congrats! Great write up and pictures as well.

That's pretty freaking cool. You could make and sell those pretty easily if you wanted I bet.

Looks like they're flying off the shelves now Jim . I went down yesterday with a friend of mine who bought one of the males and met with Jim, and have to say I was impressed. Jim is both serious and passionate about his dogs and he spent a lot of time going over training methods, what to do and what not, working the dogs, etc. Don't think you'll regret getting a dog from Jim. No to mention he met us in Kingman to cut a couple hours off of our drive - one way (We're up in Vegas.) Nice meeting you Jim, good luck with the rest of your dogs.

I just noticed that too....its a freak of a buck +1 any other pictures of that deer?

Help me pick a Bullet
Coues Sniper replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The accubond is a great all around hunting bullet. If you're looking for a longrange load, the Bergers are great too. However, I'm going to disagree with Mike on the 168's and say 180 grains or better on the Bergers. I know he's taken elk with them, but that's just too small of a bullet for me on an animal that big. They'd have a better BC to buck the wind and hold energy as well. I'd even look at the 190's. FWIW, I'm going to play with the 210 Bergers and 208 A-Max's in my 300 RUM this spring. -
Great bucks. That palmated one is sweet

Yeah that's the same guy. He seemed interested again and said he would call you, but of course said he would have to run it past the ol' lady, again. I like your where the red fern grows idea, that would have to work PS if you're pouring the blue label, I may have to come with him when he picks the pup up

Being patient after the shot....
Coues Sniper replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I think you did the right thing. And IMO the deer probably lived. I believe the blood trail ended abruptly because the deer began to lick the wound. A few years ago I helped a friend kill his first buck that was a little 2 point. He killed it with a rifle. When I was going to show him how to gut it i noticed an arrow shaft sticking out about 1" to the side of his rectum. I cut the arrow out that was embedded in the deer's pelvis and it was about 8" in length. No arteries or organs were affected. There was no infection whatsoever, and no sign at all that the deer was injured. The deer ran like a rocket after he was hit. And this was a 2 1/2 year old Coues. In your situation, I think the deer would have had an easier time healing and making it. -
I have a good friend up here in Vegas that may be interested. I sent him a link to this page... good looking pups.

If i didn't have bad, luck I'd have no luck.
Coues Sniper replied to BigBfever's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I'll help you put this back in perspective... I live in Nevada. WE don't have over the counter archery tags. Matter of fact, I draw an archery tag about every 3rd year. So while you're out putting stalks on bucks in your backyard and getting busted, I'm sitting at home with bonus points looking at posts with you complaining about your luck wishing i could be hunting. Seems you're luckier than you think Oh and Amanda - +1 -
