Aspens on the San Francisco Peaks
Coues Sniper replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
I say again, gifted . -
Of the two, the 22-250 is the way to go IMO. But a no go on mule deer, again just my opinion .
-
Scott, aren't you in the market for one of these? price is right.

Solid bull man, congrats.

Those sheep are there pretty much daily . You can dang near walk up to them. -
Nice!! Tell Ernie congrats on a great bull. 19 days, he earned it!

+1 on all counts. During dry years the rut is weak. Lots of bulls still have big patches of velvet right now. Not near as many broken bulls this year either compared to other years at this time.

Nice looking family you have Sam. Welcome to the forum

Smooth Amanda, very smooth . I'm 33, and if my wife pulled that one on me, I'd be very impressed. The brownie points that would earn her....

I'm going to disagree a bit with AZOnecam. I carry a pair of 10's around my neck and 15's, a Bogen, and the 80mm Swaro in my pack. I too usually use my spotter for judging an animal I have already found using my binocs. Using one to glass extended periods of time is not practical. However I find my scope to be very valuable for judging animals, especially Coues deer, at long distances. I can't imagine trying to score a buck at say 700 yards or more with my 15's. Maybe you guys have better eyes than me, I just don't think I could do it. The buck I killed last year I could barely tell was a buck with my 15's, I put the scope on him and could tell he had potential but it was still far enough that I couldn't be sure what he was. I decided to put a move on him and he ended up being the second biggest deer I have ever seen. Not sure I would have put a move on him if I didn't have my scope as it took almost 3 hours to get over there. I also like the spotting scope to find other deer that are with a bedded deer. If I find a doe during rut, MANY times when I get the scope out I'll find a buck bedded near her that I never would have seen with my binocs. I also use it while hunting elk during the rut - if I can hear a bull in a thicket that won't come out and I can't pick him up with my 15's, I'll use the spotter to pick that thicket apart and most times I'll eventually see a tine or an ear and be able to get a good idea what kind of bull he is. So to me, the extra weight of the scope is completely worth it. I don't use it constantly, but when I do use it I find it invaluable. And the weight of the tripod is a moot point because I already want a sturdy one for the 15's. Not trying to say AZOne is wrong by any means, just that I have a different take on it. Food for thought anyways

GORGEOUS bull. Congrats

Looking to get a Bino pack but not sure which one to get. Was helping on a hunt last week and my buddy had the Badlands version. I'm not a fan of most of their packs, but the bino pack seems nice. The magnetic closure is pretty slick and seemed to keep dust out well. For those of you with experience with these, please chime in. Or if you know of any other good one out there, I'm all ears. I read the review on here that Jim did and there was some good info on both the AGC and Badlands, just looking for a bit more. Thanks. Kevin

Scott My advice is to get the Swaro 80 mm. I don't have any experience with the Zeiss spotter, but the Swaro quality is obviously top notch and the warranty is enough to make the difference to me. They've fixed my 15's twice for nothing when it was my fault - even next day aired them to me on a Saturday for nothing! A good buddy of mine dropped his and they sent him a loaner which was brand new and just told him to keep the new pair. You probably know all this anyways. As far as the focus, I've never had it be a problem for me. And people that say the 80 mm doesn't make much difference are full of it in my opinion. Couple years ago I was in Mexico with my old man. He has the Swar 65, I have the 80. Anyhow about a half hour before dark pops flips out saying he has a big buck bedded. He asks me to come over to help score it. I come over and can't find the thing. Pops gets frustrated and grabs my scope to put it on the buck. Then he starts laughing. Turns out it was a bush. Both Swaros, both HD's, but it was OBVIOUS in the 80 what it was. He now borrows my scope all the time - even if it's just cloudy he can tell the difference. Besides, you're young enough that weight shouldn't be a problem .

You're gonna love those Bill. I don't go anywhere without mine; I'd rather leave my spotting scope in camp!
-
Thanks for the info Ron. Let me ask you another question since you have both: which one would you use if you had to choose just one and all you planned to use them for was a pair of 10x42 swaro's?
-
Kent - thanks for that. I just worry about my binocs getting dusty. I seem to always be hunting in the dustiest conditions imaginable. And don't worry, I'll most certainly order from Amanda if I decide on the AGC. I'd rather give my money to Jaret and Amanda than some company that farms their labor overseas anyday. Jamaro - thanks. The bow hook seems like a strange idea, but could come in handy. One last question: I don't have a Badlands pack, and probably wouldn't want to have my binocs attached to my pack anyways, does the harness get uncomfortable while wearing a pack? It seems bulky, but I didn't get a chance to wear it with my pack. Thanks again.

Doug, you're gifted. On the for reals, gifted. -
I agree Kent, that will factor into my decision as well. Thanks Also, how does it seal to keep dust out? A bow holder? And how does the water bladder attach? Their website doesn't have a description of the features
