I thought it had to be centerfire.. (?) You could kill one with a 17 for sure, but IMO it falls into the "bad idea" category

Nice! Congrats on a great buck

It's a terrible situation for sure. I may end up down there as I am a member of the NV Task Force 1 FEMA Team as a Structures Specialist. Our team is way down the rotation line this month, but if rescue/recovery procedures continue (which more than likely will due to politics going on) our team will get deployed. I'll share with folks here if I go.

Already a deer named Goliath. A mule deer, but still technically a deer

Glad to hear everything went well Casey

I use both, ALWAYS . The 15's are unbeatable for glassing, but not enough for detail at long ranges IMO.

Doesn't matter what anyone else here would have done. If you didn't feel comforatble, you should'nt have shot. Period -

If you mail it by a certain date, they will inform you of errors before it is processed. I forgot the date though. I think Doug posted it originally. -
Are you ready for the long shot? I am...

Mike, I watched a couple of their shows where they went through how you can make adjustments for altitude and temp differences, but the way they tied it into the turrent was extremely confusing and lacking in much description. There are other factors that they didn't mention also which you have explained above. I'm not much of a fan of wind holdover anyways (for those that don't know, Huskemaw's scopes have moa gradients for wind adjustments on the reticle). I killed a deer a few years ago at 560 which at that time I used holdover dots for wind and vertical drop. But with the wind/distance I had, niether crosshair was touching the deer when I tipped the trigger. Just didn't seem natural to me. I much prefer using the actual crosshairs if at all possible. -

John, I think you would be surprised at the number of people who use field calculators for longrange hunting. I have a very simple yet very accurate program on my iPhone that I use to get proper dope for a shot. As 308 stated this really isn't necessary for shots under 500 yards. But when it starts pushin 700 yards or more I believe it becomes very necessary. It literally takes less than a minute, and at those ranges you generally have the time. It becomes a part of the routine. 308, I'm nit-picking here but I thought that tail/head winds had very little affect on bullet flight unless they had a vertical component? No disrespect intended to either of you; I'm certain you could both shoot circles around me . Thank you both for the interesting discussion. -
You found my trailcam! It's my new, hopefully, thief proof design...

In my (limited) pig calling experience, it seems that if you're close to the pigs - say 100 yards or so - it works well. If they're a ways off, they turn tail and run.

That is unbelievable.

SWEET buck. Especially with a bow, congrats.

THAT is cool. Congrats on a great buck

Nice buck . You are pretty lucky.

jmp, you beat me to it . Fogger, what a stud of a buck. I've got a goal of killing a 2 point that grosses over 100", and that would fit the bill nicely. Congrats on an awesome, awesome deer. Any sideview pics of that thing? jmp - a buddy of mine sent me pictures of a buck on the hoof in Mexico that he guesses at 108 minimum as a 2 point. His mass is just stupid. High 30's easy. One day man, one day...

Thanks Chef, I appreciate that. The Kiwi salsa sounds interesting, I look forward to that one. I know that personal preference is a major part of what makes a particualr salsa better than another to an individual. The main reason for my post is to have a good starting point to do some experimenting of my own. And hopefully have a few different types of recipes to play around with. So far I've gotten some good ones, and from the ones I've made already have ideas on how I'm going to tweak them the next time. That's half the fun. But any tips or flat out recipes you (or anyone else reading ) can share are greatly appreciated. And hopefully some other people get some good ideas from what is shared too.
