That may just make that spot even better. The new growth should be a shot inb the arm for horn development. The burnt trees still give the deer a sense of security while making it easier to glass.

^^^ This. When cows (and does) don't get bred during their first cycle, they go into heat again. Sometimes if there are enough, this can create the 2nd rut you guys are experiencing. As AZ said - take advantage.

Depends on what you are looking for. Red Ryder's are nostalgic and all, but are lacking in quality and power. I started off with a Crosman 760 Pumpmaster, which is a step up IMO from the Ryder. I LOVED that gun, and that will likely be the gun I get my son when he's old enough. Not super powerful, but accurate as heck and I learned alot from shooting that gun. It will shoot pellets or BB's and has a resevoir for BB's. Also has kind of a bolt astion which is nice. The good thing about these two are they are open sights, which I feel is important for youngsters to learn well. Next level after that is Bejamin which I never had much luck with, and Gamo. Gamo's are very nice and will last your son a long time, but are more expensive - $100 min and up. After that you can get as crazy and spend as much as you want .

Great write-up and GREAT buck. That is a very special place. And you have a very special wife - that "motivational poster" she did took a lot of thought. Congrats on a great hunt!

Opinions??? Did we get screwed?
Coues Sniper replied to AzVTR's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The fact that there was radio chatter from what seemed to be a guy watching the deer for him makes me think he didn't just bump into it. But hard to say. Sorry again it didn't work out. -

So what you're hypothesizing here is, those guys (who clearly knew the deer was there also) saw you coming in, then made a stalk on the deer, got in between you and the deer and fired a shot in order to scare it over the ridge in the hopes that it would stand there and they could kill it once it topped over knowing that you wouldn't follow for some reason? Here's my guess. They saw the deer, saw you making a move (likely during the other guys stalk), the guy saw it and tried to kill it and missed. As has been said before, that's just public land hunting. I would have ignored you also had I been in his situation. At any rate, sorry it didn't work out for you guys. -

Nice job man. Couple of those bucks looked like dandies. I swear if I had an iPod, we'd have the exact same playlists. But what I really want to know is - how the He!! you keep going on all these hunts. I'm counting like 5 already. I need YOUR job. Keep with the videos.

Ooooh-da-lolly. That's nice

Great bucks. The work you put in paid off big time. Love it when a plan comes together.

Yeah, I'd put him in the low to mid 90's. Short beams. As far as age, he looks to be a mature deer, but not quite in his prime yet. 4 maybe?

I feel for you man. I think your biggest obstacle is not having someone in your family help you out. I honestly can't imagine starting out on my own without my old man (extremely patiently) teaching me everything I know and then some. I live a long ways away or I'd offer, but I think the best thing would be to make some friends on here and put in with them next year. Hunting with a group makes it much more enjoyable in my opinion, and the knowledge you will glean from them will be invaluable. Good luck filling your tag.

Tyson, that dude is beasty. As well as is your decision to pack him out whole. Way to go my man. Good to see you posting on here again.

Big and Wide, Wifes 2012 Buck
Coues Sniper replied to mklong40's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I deem that buck "Frame-a-licious". Great deer. -
Agreed. I don't like the "I'd rather look cool than happy" philosophy on picture taking either, but hey - to each his own. Great bucks - Bucknasty is a dandy.

LOL, its a 99.9% like new Spindrift. Scotty is a stand up guy with over 2k posts. The heck you need pics for.
