More great info. Interesting that the published value would be low. Also interesting that the 140 A-max is lower than the 140 Berger when the 208 A-max is higher than the 210 Berger. I've been very impressed with the A-max performance on game, if I get a chance at some 140's, I'll snatch them up for sure.
-
This thread should be a sticky. I was thinking of trying the A-max's as they perform so well in my RUM (208's), but I can't find the 140's anywhere. Plus the Bergers have a higher bc... So I'll try them out first.
-
I'll have to play with a couple primers and see what fleshes out. Probably two max though. I'm not good enough yet to have more than a few variables to work with. For this year I'll try one bullet, one type of brass, two powders and two primers. Berger 140's and Lapua brass already on order, found a buddy with some H4731sc and I have some Retumbo and Fed 215's. just gotta find some Rem 9.5's and I'll be prepped. You guys pushing Bergers, are you chasing the lands?
-
Thanks STOMP. Good to know I can use them as a backup plan. You guys are a huge help.
-
I'd like to be as picky as possible. Thanks Mike.
-
Another question - in my research I've seen people use the Fed 215's with the Retumbo, and the Fed 210's with the H4831. I have only reloaded for my 300 RUM and therefore have a stockpile of 215 GMM's, but no "large rifle" 210 sized primers. Any reason I can't use the 215's with the H4831sc? I could likely find some 210's or Rem 9.5's, but would rather use my own supply than find some from a buddy (online is a ghost-town for primers). Thanks

Haha, I JUST began looking today. The Internet looks completely out . I'll begin looking in my neck of the woods. There's a couple places around me that I have been told will ship components. If I find any ill let you know.

^^^ This. Sweet pic.
-
Great info guys, thanks a ton. Now to track down some H4831sc...
-
Thanks Mike. The more I research, the more I hear about the H4831sc. May try it and the retumbo. What velocities are you getting with those?
-
Thanks cb. And just to throw it out there, I'll likely only play with the 140 Bergers this year.
-
Well, now that I've completely taken over the thread , what powder and primers are you guys using? I've heard good results from Retumbo, which is handy as that's what I use in my load for the 300RUM. Any other input appreciated.
-
Yeah, it's not much of a "need" thing. More of make it even more of a "pussycat" thing. Current go-to rig is a lighter weight 300 RUM (braked) so I'm sure this will be a vacation comparatively
-
Always appreciate your input Mike. Thank you. I'll look into the 3 groove. Also, I'm planning on putting a brake on the rifle. Thoughts?

26" is completely manageable. What twist do you prefer for pushing the heavier pills? Considering building one soon. Sorry for the hijack.

What length would you go with on a 6.5x284 STOMP.

How much does a Mexico hunt cost.
Coues Sniper replied to Big Browns's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
You can expect to pay anywhere from 2500 to 5k and up depending on who you go with and whether you do your own food, etc. And average cost is probably 4k or so. -
do all bucks get big with age
Coues Sniper replied to couesmagnet's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
My guess is it's far less than half. Really big deer are just freaks. You're looking for a Shaquile O'Neil of the Coues variety. -
Way nice. That little webbed double drop thing is cool. Sweet buck.
-
Gorgeous buck, and archery none-the-less. Huge congrats.

Pending world record 600 yard 5 shot group. Most guys can't do this at 100 yards.
Coues Sniper replied to 308Nut's topic in Long Range Shooting
That's insanity. -

Custom build. What caliber would you go with?
Coues Sniper replied to briant_az's topic in Long Range Shooting
6.5x284 is becoming quite common - all components including fully loaded ammo are pretty much eadily available. That being said, for a long range rig I'd go with a 300 RUM, no question. That's me. -
How much does he score??
Coues Sniper replied to tjkazhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I think you guys are over-scoring him as I've got him in the high 70's. He seems like a young deer with good potential so he could be really nice this year. Good luck!
