Just trying to finish my set up for elk. I'm kind of old school when it comes to broad heads fixed or nothing. The guys at the archery shop are saying to go with a mechanical or hybrid as the flight is nearly identical to a field point, and less tuning involved. I have waited 16 years for an early archery tag and want to eliminate any chance of a mechanical failure. Either way I know it all comes down to shot placement. I have a very short draw length and pulling only 62lbs with a 400gr arrow. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Go see Junior at Timber Mesa in Queen Creek. Thank you. I was joking this is my first elk tag in 16 years.

Hit for elk. Unit 23N archery. Anyone out there that can teach me how to shoot a bow?

This is BS! 17 points and I didn't draw a early archery elk tag. Credit card is good to go, charged me for license and application fee so I know I didn't put the wrong numbers in. Either: - They are not done processing. - I have really bad luck. - They screwed up. - Or the gohunt.com subscription I purchased was a complete waste of money. "100% chance of drawing any unit" Hmmmm!!! Congrats to all that where drawn. Will be drowning my sorrows in a few silver bullets tonight!!!

Here is a little trick for submitting your apps this will almost guarantee a tag. Place three stamps on the envelope and hand deliver it to G&F, shake the hand of the G&F employee, look him or her in the eye and wink, let them know there is more where those came from. My buddy did this last year and drew a early cow tag with only 13 points.

Thank you all for the input. I have been out of the archery game since my last early archery hunt in unit 10. Over the past 13 years I have not had the time to commit to any archery hunting but now I do. I know last year was a tough early archery hunt but with the date change, moon phase and moisture we are getting this year it might be off the charts. Again thank you for your input and I will let you know if I draw. To those who have offered money and guided trips I appreciate the offers but will have to decline.

I'm sitting on 17 bonus points for elk. Pretty much guaranteed any early archery tag according to gohunt.com. Slim chance of early rifle. I have been putting in for early rifle in the 23's for the past 10 years. You guys think it would be a mistake to use these points on an early archery hunt? What unit 23N, 23S or 9?

I have been following this forum for several years but rarely have I responded to a post. (Plus I have not harvested a animal since 2004, in a bit of a tag drought) Anyways this topic I could not resist. I personally have seen one of my favorite units (22) go from a respectable trophy elk unit to terrible trophy unit. Myself and my family have been pounding the hills of 22 since 1958. Between 1996 and 2007 I participated in seven trophy elk hunts in this unit harvesting bulls from 354 to 395. I believe AZGFD made 22 a opportunity unit some where around 2007'ish. In 2009 and 2011 I was able to help a couple friends on there 22N tags. Biggest bull we harvested was 338. We scouted and hunted our butts off and this was the biggest bull we could find. Sure you can blame it on the drought or the stars not aligning or whatever but I personally blame it on another bad design via AZGFD.
