How far do you live from your spot?
shortpants replied to jamaro's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Have many spots, average 3-3.5 hours. -
I once witnessed 4 coyotes drag down a fork-horned muley buck and eat him 400yds. away from where I was glassing.

who hunts with ballistic tip ammo?
shortpants replied to AZ RANGER's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Good for deer. NEVER USE THEM ON ELK! -
every time I come home from a hunt or scouting trip I run my binos under the sink and rinse them off really good. While in the field bottled water will do the same thing. After they dry lens wipes and a lens rag will take care of the water spots. NEVER WIPE THE LENSES OFF BEFORE RINSING OR BLOWING THEM OFF FIRST! Camera shops sell a lens pen with a blower on the opposite end to blow the dust off the lens first. Lens pens are ok as long as you use them as a second stage but they need to be replaced after a while because they hold the dirt they collect from the lenses in them.

Suggestions for tripod mounted pistol grip gyro
shortpants replied to royerj1's topic in Optics and tripods
I've owned the bogen and the outdoorsman pistol grip heads. Most people seem to prefer pan heads over pistol grip heads. I love my outdoorsmans pistol grip but it does require a little more finess which is why most people don't like 'em. The bogen head was good but had a few problems. In cold weather the 15's would want to fall forward because the metal ball (pivot) would actually shrink in cold weather. It also got noisier as the years went buy even after trying to clean it. My motto is buy what you want the first time, it's cheaper that way. -
Hey Bill here's my .2 cents, RHINO, RHINO, RHINO! I've used atv's of all sorts for many years now. I started on an old 3 wheeler and have progressed through the years. If you decide to buy a quad I reccomend a 400 or 450 for you. The bigger engines will probably beat you up much more. Honda has long been the most bullet proof bike on the market. Most of these newer bikes are very good as well. For you I would also reccomend a bike with the lowest stance. This will make it feel less tippy. Suzuki makes the lowest sitting quad on the market I believe. BOTTOM LINE IS THIS, YOU WILL FEEL A LITTLE SORE AFTER RIDING ON ANY QUAD ALL DAY! A RHINO WILL NOT BEAT YOU UP AND ALLOW YOU TO CARRY A PASSENGER,GEAR FOR 2, AND A QUIMBY SIZE BULL ELK. SEND ME A PM IF YOUR INTERESTED IN MORE INFO ON A RHINO AND GOOD LUCK ON YOUR DECISION!

during one of my back country coues hunts I spotted a 110+ class buck walking with a 95 class. I watched them bed down and started my stalk. I had'nt gone 400yds. of the mile hike I had ahead when I jumped a group of deer with a buck I had named family guy because he was always with the same doe and spike. Family guy was a 97'' buck (my guess anyway) and I had him in the crosshairs but could not pull the trigger because I wanted the big 110 class. I made my way to within 400yds. of the 2 bedded bucks and got set up. It was early afternoon so I had to wait forever but finally I saw a deer moving out from behind the thick trees. It was the 95 class and he stepped out to rake his antlers on a branch. I watched him in the scope just waiting for his big brother to make the same mistake. Well I laid there until it was pitch black and no sign of the buck. The 95 had gone back into the trees and apparently bedded back down to. Sorry this is such a long answer to your question but I had to tell the whole story. On the way back to my camp while hiking in the full moonlight, I found a small 3pt. shed laying about 10 yds. off the path I was walking. It really stuck out in the moonlight. Just to finish the story I passed up shots at family guy, the 95 class, and another 95 class 3x4 (on 3 different occasions) and a whole handful of shots at bucks ranging from spikes to 85 class bucks. I went home with a few sheds including my moonlit shed and memories of one of the greatest hunts I have ever experienced! Ten days by myself in the back country, that's paradise!

AZ4LIFE I'd love to hear them all! I tell you another. This past Jan. a friend and I were sitting 2 waterholes in southern AZ. waiting for some giant bucks to show up. My batteries died in my radio so I decided to go back to my Rhino which was parked halfway between us and change them out. While standing there changing the batteries a broken 2x3 (was a 3x3) walked 10 yds. behind me. I was holding out for a big buck so I tried calling my buddy on the radio with no success. Meanwhile the buck started walking away so I ran to get in front of the buck and turn him towards my friend. The buck turned around and started trotting back the way he came but I needed him to turn and run away from me towards my friend instead running parallel to me. I started yelling at my friend to just be ready because I was chasing a buck towards him. He must have thought I had lost my mind! Well this went on for about 7 or 8 minutes and I was running parallel within 10 yds. of the buck the whole time. Eventually he ran up ahead of me and stopped to feed on a tree so I turned and ran over to get my buddy. The buck gave us the slip. He came in to my waterhole later that evening and to my friends the next day but did not present him with a shot. I ended up sticking a 95'' 3x4, he bled a whole lot for about 300 yds. and then quit bleeding and went back to chasing a doe. I looked for him the rest of the day and the next day. I'm pretty sure I saw him the next day still chasing does. It was an exiting hunt. I passed up shots at several smaller bucks including a 77'' at 12 yds. My buddy had a very close call with an 80''er on the last day but the buck turned right before he was going to shoot.

I got my pictire taken in 22north today. Just wondering if it belongs to anyone on this site? It was a 35mm stealthcam chained to a bush but don't worry I won't tell anybody which bush.

Anyone have any stories from this weekend?
shortpants replied to matthewp45's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!! NOT FAIR, I'M JEALOUS!!!!! CONGRATS ON AN AWESOME BUCK. WE WANT DETAILS! -
You guys want to talk about skill with a bow, check this out. A good friend of mine and I were shooting one day. I was standing right next to him but facing the other way when the sound of metal skipping across the desert floor made me turn around to ask what the heck was that? Right then he raised his left hand and it had an allen wrench sticking out of the top of his thumb! He shook his hand and it went flying out. Apparently he had made adjustments to his bow and then not thinking, stuck the 2 allen wrenches he was using in his mouth. He drew back and released, the string ripped the allen wrenches from his teeth chipping his tooth and sticking 1 through his thumb! Now that's talent!
