Thanks for the info Jim, and great buck! Always happy to see fathers and their kids enjoying the outdoors. Several years ago while spotlighting on a full moon night in 5b south I saw many deer and elk bedded down. I thought it was strange and while it's not scientific research, it goes along with your theories.

WOW That's a lot of success for one camp. Not fair of you to hog all the good luck like that. Congrats to all you guys. -
Hey Bill, great story! I've had many stories like that happen to me but I can't say I've ever had my boots sniffed before. I'll share a couple of interesting ones real quickly. This past Jan. while bowhunting coues I was sitting on my stool with my back against a small tree when I heard leaves rustling behind me. After waiting awhile I finally turned slowly and saw a doe staring at me only 10 yds. behind me. She did the stomp thing for quite a while. I grunted at her and she only got more curious. I finally just stuck my hand out and softly began asking her to ''come here.'' She would take a couple steps towards me but never came in. That went on for an hour before she finally walked away. The second is very smilar but with a mule deer doe and me sitting on a stump in full sunlight. I sat still for an hour while this doe walked in circles around me stomping and jumping and snorting to try to get me to move. Finally I just jumped up quickly, threw my arms up and yelled boo! Needless to say that ended that episode in a hurry.

Shortpants and COOSEFAN's adventure

Hey Greyghostguy, It was pretty warm during the day but it got pretty cool down in the wash we were camped in. We had temps from mid 30's to high 70's would be my best guess. Good luck on your hunt and keep us posted. -
A .243 is a great coues rifle that has better ballistics than most people realize. Make sure you shoot it ahead of time and find your limitations. Shoot straight and have a blast!

It's great that you were able to share that with your bro. Congrats to him, nice buck!

A day like that is well worth it for a buck like that. Congratulations! I'll guess 85.

You seemed to be bothered much more by the spider in your tent than you ever were by the uda's. -

Yeah we have bad hunts.......I just don't tell you guys about them Actually, I have been incredibly fortunate over the last 12 months. This was my 4th Coues buck I've tagged in less than a year! I have a problem....I'm addicted to hunting these things and will do anything I can to do it and can never get enough of it! I hope my luck holds out though cause I'm gonna try and get two more in January '07 with my bow in AZ and Mexico Thanks again folks for your reply's, I appreciate it JIM> Why do you think I'm so quiet. Jim has all the luck. I'm on a bad luck streak that I can't seem to shake but don't think I'm complaining. I had a blast hunting with Jim and I know when I do find success I'll just appreciate it that much more. Knowing I was with Jim on his favorite coues hunt to date and having Pops on the phone was a special day that I won't soon forget! Thanks for leetting me be there Jim. -
I just talked to Jim and he said he's on his way out the door and so am I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He also said his total pack weight is 48lbs. Mine is 70lbs. Not fair, what did I pack? Oh well, once we get to where we'll camp I'll lose most of that weight and hopefully we'll both tag out on video! Talk to ya'll later, best of luck to everyone. BE SAFE!

I just learned that they will be offering a 17' version (tandem) next year!

206,452,212,315,339 running full speed (yes that was luck) but ended up with the wrong buck on that one,and 362. I also spotted for my good friend Brian on his 120+'' buck taken at 614 yds. I have shot moa groups at 900 yds. and have also not been able to shoot an 8'' circle at 100yds. It's all about knowing your ability's (?) on that day. Right now I'm shooting a new rifle and have not practiced enough to be able to shoot with confidence yet but I will.

Whenever your ready TLH, I'll get you set up.

Hey TLH, your mom sounds like a brilliant woman!

Take your time. Study the area in the bino's as well as with your naked eye. Pick out a landmark that will direct your eye to the spot where the buck is. If you can film the shot off a tripod that helps. Just like with archery, follow through on your shot. Concentrate on the target even after the gun goes off. Move only your trigger finger nothing else. have your bino's handy but don't panic and grab them right away. If you lose him in the scope take a second to look for him in the scope. Don't panic! If you can't find him in the scope look with your naked eyes for a running deer. If he's on the move you'll find him with your naked eye even at 400 yds. Watch where he goes and get another shell ready in case he stops. Don't take your eyes off of him even for a second. If you can't find him with your naked eyes grab the bino's and glass the spot where you shot at him. Watch for him to move down hill and into the lowest spot. Don't panic! Put the bino's on the tripod and really pick apart the area. If you never saw him run away then he's there somewhere and probably dead or on his way to dead. If you filmed it review the film. After an hour or more slowly work your way over to the last spot you saw him. If you get to a spot where you can see pretty much all of his escape routes, stop and set up. Now throw some rocks his way and be ready. Never lose your original landmark. If nothing happens, slowly work towards the landmark and look for your buck or any sign of a hit. Don't panic! Good luck.
