Which unit will you be hunting in August?
Zeke-BE replied to kazpilot25's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
I would be in unit 1 but everyone can't make it this year. So I'll go dink around in 7e. Haven't been there and try something new. -
Once you go tripod you won't go back. You can look through it for 20 min with no problem. No tired arms or aches. And if you are trying to pick a part something there's no rattle. But your from flagstaff and you might always be hunting in the pines so I see your point.

I have the tall tripods, I can stand longer than trying to find that perfect spot in the chair. I find my self slouching in chairs or sitting. Back starts hurting. If I'm by the truck I'll use chairs from time to time

I got tikka .270, nosler brass, 140 grain accurbond a, vortex scope, shooing right at 3,000 fps, sub MOA. Last year hit my couse right exactly at 400 yards one shot drop. I have center plate 750 yards, but most .270 BC is around in the .500 while heavy 30 cal and light 6.5 you can get in the .600 BC. After this hunting season I'm rebuilding my .270 to a 6.5-.270 AI. I want the 6.5 BC and a couple hundred fps faster. When shooting out to 700 yards its a bit finicky. I heard of a lot of guys shoot with lot more ease with the 6.5. If you are planning on only shooting out to 500 yard max then the .270 will get the job done without a problem. I personally would just keep my .270 the same but all these no good CWT guys are making me depress with their new gun builds! . I blame you CWT

My brother has it set up just like that extremely light. The sweetest and most fun 22 I have ever shot! Bump. For an awesome set up

My nosler accurbond kick butt! The LRAB are not working. Read some of the load dates Lance is doing with them, and firstcouse80 I believe hasn't had much luck with them, but loves accurbond. Besides that the story is consistent with the other crappy grouping it's doing.

I'm interested but I have the standard barrel contour. It looks like a heavier barrel fits it better

Grandpa's Springfield 1917 rifle rebuild, maybe 6.5-06?
Zeke-BE posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I believe this is a springfield 1917 30-06. It was my grandfathers and I don't know how many animal he has taken with this but it was many! Grandpa gave this to us years ago because we didn't have any hunting rifles, and my older brother shot his first deer with it, I shot my first deer with it, my buddy shot his first big game Javalina with it. Its seen alot! Well instead of making it a rifle collective item i've been thinking about rebuilding it and turning it into a newer hunting rig with the same action. New stock, maybe new barrel. Also thinking about turning it into a 6.5-06. Grandpa wasn't an avid shooter, so I think this barrel might only have 500-600 rounds down the tube in its life time. But as you can see on the barrel looks like gramps added a ported muzzle break on the barrel itself. So my question is what options do I have for a Springfield??????? Is there aftermarket parts, stocks, barrels for this gun?? What things need to happen, and what do i need to get down if I want to change it to a 6.5-06 other than a new barrel. Any tips, advise, if I should just keep it a 30 cal, keep it original, give it a new look, beef it up?? I want make gramps proud knowing that he knows that we are still hunting with his guns. If it sits there any longer grandpa will probably start turning in his grave! -
I've read that the EDL x are the new game round. And the new EDL is the same bullet Amax but with the heat resistant tip and should be the same as the Amax. Everyone loves The a max. But in the same write up it talked that the EDL x jacket might be to thin and blew up on contact like a ballistic tip. This is what I remember I can be totally wrong. So if the new EDL are the same Amax with the new tip that's good enough for me. .

They should literally make camper have to take some sort of hazard recognition test before they can camp or something like that..Never once have I ever left a trash bag at my camp not even in my late teens early 20's party days. The trash was always loaded up and dumped in a dumpster at some random business dumpster in Camp Verde lol! The not properly putting out a fire gets me the most. Because you were either born normal ( not a D Head) or you were taught by parents who were respectful!!! There are very few of us left

I would really look into the 140 grain accurbond. For the lands I don't single round shoot. I like to know I have a second shot. So I adjust it to barley fit in the magazine. But I believe I was only .040 off the lands. Last week up in flagstaff it seemed like I got some good pressure for only .040 off the lands. I' only got half way through my ladder test and I'm already hitting 2900 fps for a 300 win mag 208 EDL match.

Boy you day dream and ponder this stuff just as much as me! I haven't heard of New Zealand public land hunting. Most people don't want to fly out and spend a lot of money just to DIY self hunts as big as trip to New Zealand. But let us know! Because if there is someone going to find a way for DIY hunt its big Browns!

While trying to keep it original the way gramps had it, what would you do " carb, belts tires" ??? I'm up to other ideas -

I've decided to not do anything to it. I'll try to build up a load for it and keep it a true old fashion shooter -
