If you are already shooting elk out to 400 yards you should be set. I wouldn't have a problem shooting an elk at 400 yards with my tikka 140 grain accubond. Depends on what unit too. If your in a open country maybe switch to an 300 win mag if you want more range.

Don't really need it to be deer rifle already have 22-250 Ai,243wssm,25-06,257wby,6.5x55 Swed,6.5-300wby,a couple 270wsm's,30-06Ai,and a 300rum for backup deer rifles. When I go for some prairie dog action 600 rnd days aren't uncommon so looking for another rifle that's easy on powder, barrel, ears,shoulder, and just plain fun to shoot. Some times I go by myself so being able to call my own shots would be a plus. obbessssed Much???? I like it!!!!! Please keep us up to date with this build. Sounds awesome

Lately Ive been working on my 300 win mag with ladder test, hot loads, now coal change ups to get better grouping. Going through lots of rounds, I was was using the lead sled, but was told others from the forum it messes with the harmonics of the barrel. How does it mess with it, and not with sand bags, or bi-pods??? Plus what do you guys think of the Caldwell tack driver? I know for precise shooting the Lead Sled does not move or vibrate when Im shooting it. I know when I shoot, the shot was good and the bullet is truly reveling itself to me. (unless Im totally wrong) Any help or your preferred way of load development shooting would be great.

You might have to educate me a little more, i thought pushing a 208-215 grain bullet out of a win mag around 3000 fps is a hot load?? So dropping it down to 2940 is moderate?

Right I know, I guess let me explain more. Shooting some loads that were 2850-2920 were 1-1/2 to 2" spreads. Some of my best ones were shooting at 2700 fps and 2990.

pushing 208 grains 3010 fps and sub Moa groups. I got it up to 3060 with no sticky bolt and backed off a 1/2 of grain. But the best one is shooting 2990 with another 1/2 grain off, so Im looking into that one more.
