Will a spooked/shot at buck return to the same area?
Zeke-BE replied to dpr64's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Ive seen them stay on the same hill before. The most Ive seen them spook is 700 yards as the crow flies but but and over that huge hill. Only one time did we scare them that he kept running and running, down in the flats and he kept going out of sight from my old 10x binos back in year 1999. -
Have you tried the El Salvador Chorizo links from El Super? hmmmmm I have not! Sounds good

Maybe he saw a buck run across the road and jump out as fast as he can.

If your a protein guy like me and you don't want to eat a nasty protein bar or shake, or nasty nasty nasty granola bars (unless its cover and smothered in chocolate) I eat hard peppered salami slices, chorize slices (this is a Spain lunch meat not a Mexican chorize burrito) and maybe some fruit. It taste great, its meat and fat and eat it with fruit it works great! No forks, plates, just eat it out of the bag.

I went out this morning to stretch the legs on my new load data for the 300 win mag. Now I used the shooter app and plugged it in and knowingly that everything will not come up exactly perfect. (shooting at a plate someone else put up on the mountain side and left it) Shot at 750 yards and after the 4 shot only a 1/2 MOA off I hit it. Then went out to 1031 yards and after the second shot adjusted it 1/2 MOA again and smack!!! Went out to 1400 yards ran out of turret elevation (i need to pick up a 20 Moa rail). Now all this was just for fun, but now i am going to get serious about it. What are your recommendation to start a long range (tracking) and verifying your drop procedures. I have an idea but want to here it from the guys who done it themselves. I did it with my .270 but got lucky that my print off happen to be dead nuts that I didn't need to make adjustments. Side note I do have a 12" plate with stand and a 18"x24" plate on a stand.

Well Lance I went on that sight to check it out. Both site and app was wrong with MOA.. I thought maybe my velocity is off. But I doubled check elevation where i was shooting and I was off 500 feet. Shoot that far a half MOA was either a hit or miss. I ran it through both the app and the website jbm and it corrected itself to be 1/2 MOA. WOW. Lesson learn 500 ft off of elevation you will miss the target

Now when shooter app talks about scope height what exactly is it looking for. Right now I have the leopold but im getting a 20 moa rail. I put 1" in the app. Because both locations at 750 yards and 1031 yards were 1/2 MOA over.

1000 Post!!! Now I look like the rest of the guys on the forum:) They do look tough. So can Amanda show me a link where all the honey holes and water tanks are at since i made it?

I know there has been a couple of threads going on with scopes. But this is my dilemma on these 2. Budget will be 2,000-2300 max. I shooting a 6-24x50 pst viper. For me it shoots great and look clear but I do want a step up. I have never looked through the high end 3000-3500 dollars scopes yet so I know these 2 will have lot better glass from what im coming from. Choices are Stiener T5xi 34mm tube 5-25x56 MOA $2,000 ---vs--- Nightforce NXS 30mm tube 5.5-22x56 MOA $2,000 I did fine a Kahles on sale for $2,700 but it was in Mil, but everything else is 3k. If there is something else out there better then these two for only a couple hundred dollars more I would spend it. Also who has the better glass? And other side notes I want to shoot out to 1300 yards with this, but mainly hanging around 750-1000 yards.

Congrats on the 1000 mark, but just so you know you're not officially a 'premier' member until you head down town and stand in front of the city hall wearing nothing but a coueswhitetail.com speedo and holding up a sign that says 'eat meat!'. We all had to do it. Hmmm I guess you guys left that out. Do you want me to take a picture and post it???

I'd like to hear how the Athlon compares to the other scopes. I had not even heard of them until about four months ago. I didn't here about them till this weekend. But from the price and what really good reviews (limited reviews) I guess Im putting some faith into it.

Good luck

Well I went ahead and changed the game. Lance sorry I would of swing by to take a look at your Kahles, but you haven't responded on the forum for a while, and if I remembered from our dove hunt you were on a elk hunt. Chris (Douglus Gun Guy) texted me a pic of your daughters elk so that confirmed you were gone, but congrats on the elk. Im sure we will get the story. I was leaning toward the Stiener but after texting to Chris he told me about the Athlon Crous 4.5-29x56 FFP MOA Scope. A Newer company that wants to compete with the big boys. You can find those scopes for 1699.00 on line. Not a ton of reviews but there were a good amount. Tracking was dead on no problems, you can see that on you tube, and 2 different reviews from a couple of people compared them to the Kahles gen II k624i and said in their opinion the glass was the same but kahles retical are better. Ive only seen good reviews (small amount of reivews) but nothing bad. So its shipping this way. I know your a glass guy but if you ever want to compare glass from the this scope let me know or PM me. I already bought it but interested to see it compare to your other nice scopes.

Looked at Manners website. I didn't see that they inlet for a Model 7 on their stock builder. I will try to contact them. Chances are I will start with the thumbhole that I already have and try to lighten it up a bit. Then as I can save a little more money I will replace the stock. I think it will cost more and a more wait time if they custom it. Yeah call and double check

Check on the twist rate to make sure it can handle the 100 grain bullet

Need to be choose wisely with McMillan. They can be pretty heavy. Manners has one that is 1-1/2 pounds

I was trying to find somewhere close for a long range shooting. Queens Valley is not Ideal but it is close. Came across this at 1pm on a Wednesday. No body around. I don't get it those golfers and rabbit targets are around 40 bones each. I left it there, but if anyone heads out there in a couple of days and still there I guess its yours. Its right in the middle of a very popular shooting spot, so if its yours and you forgot its still there. Also a big thanks to the guy who huffed a 20" white plate up a mountain and left it there in a totally different spot. I have a range from 600 yards to 1800 yard. I can't wait for my 300 win mag to be set up for that.
