Zeke-BE replied to cohntr6's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I don't think there is a load yet. Just use the Amax and start on the low end and work your way up -
What Trophyhunter said Hard core!! So much from getting from the crowds, sorry bro. Also you didn't bring matches?? I would of had some back straps that night! But i really can't say anything because I wouldn't have gone that far back into country. More man then me! Congrats on your buck

Ha ha ha ha! So is basketball, and football "just math"! But every basketball and football pro will tell you its not the amount of basketball/ football games that make them great, its the everyday fundamental routine practice, practice, practice over and over and of course using math.

Ive been loading for about a year and half now. Im seriously studying up on this stuff all the time and bugging some of the other members via text message for some tips. But last time I posted that I used 210m instead of magums some of the guys on here were saying "don't do that" you need magnum primers. So I took heed to their council and starting shooting magnums. Well same loads that I shot before that were 1-1/4 and 1" groupings open up to 2"----2-1/2" groupings. So I text Lance and he said go back to what you started with. Ok!! Threw the 210M back in there and they tighten back up to 1" groupings. Work with the OAL after that and got it down to 4 shot 1/2" grouping. My guess its just my gun, but its working for me! -

The ELDs are still new (again based off the Amax for M's). I don't think I've seen anyone post about their ELDs yet for thier loads besides me. So not a lot of info yet. Also I believe this is the first year people will be hunting with them so Im excited to see what they will do on big game with the Xs and Ms. I went out this morning before the rain hit and was working on a creedmoor load for the ELD-x 143 and 140 HVLD Bergers. Both performed great, and both shot some strange groupings on a few loads. But I got them both down to 1/2 MOA.. So Im excited for you load work up. Have fun keep us posted! -
12oz!!!!!!!! If you fart a foot away your gun will go off!

If it is 208 gr then it is ELD-M and not the X! The x's are the 200 gr and 212 gr. But don't fear. Hornady has not specifically said the new ELD-m is exactly the Amax but with a new heat shield. I have no reason to believe they changed that bullet except for a new tip. And everybody loves the Amaxs on game. Im shooting the ELD-M 208 on my Remington 300 win mag. 78.7gr H1000 OAL 2.867 Coal to fit for a reaper is 3.611. The gun liked it shorter to 3.601 Fed. 210m primer Hornady Brass (i was going to switch it to Nosler but it was all within 1 grain) 0.54" MOA I would say those ELDs were kind of tough to find a spot, but after quite a bit of shooting I got it. -
Im really starting to believe that only 10% of the hunters have common since !! And most of 10 percenters are here on this site. Think about it! You attract who you are, thats why your friends are like you! People who break the rules, who are D Heads while out hunting, and leaving trash at camp sites won't hang out on this website very long. Once they find out what type of ethical hunters most of us are they won't even peep a sound about this because they will get thrashed by us.

Out of the 500-650 dollar range rifles the tikka is hands down the better gun. You won't find a bolt smoother then that unless you buy a 800-1000 dollar sako or a custom action. I haven't heard of anyone who doesn't shoot Sub MOA. (there could be a few but not much). Down side they are limited some of their cartridge actions and they don't sell everything in the US yet. Also not as many aftermarket stuff like compared to the Remington and Savage are. They only come in long action too. I wish tikka did more, but im patient!! Still my favorite out of the box rifle by far!!!!

That sold quick

Except when January comes around we will be getting the adds "looking for a long range sight out to 120 yards for my PSE Nova"

I knew a guy in Montana who did the same thing. He was only 16 with a 30-30 and ran out of bullets. Ran up the side of the wounded deer and clubbed the deer breaking the stock of the gun. Deer lays flat but doesn't die so he tries to cut its throat. Doesn't work he runs and gets his quad and he was to small to get the buck on the quad by himself so he tied it up and dragged it to camp. His dad said he never felt so bad for a deer before. He put it out of its memory. This was in the Mid 90s he still has the broken gun hanging on his fire place. Your buddy is one crazy dude!

Specs??? What brand, and weight are you looking at?? Im shooting the 208 ELD-m Hornady exactly 3000 fps 1/2 MOA. Heavy is what you want if you want long range. Lots of people do well with the 210 Bergers too. I thought about trying the LR Accubond for the 300, but Ive seen some strange things with the LR Accubonds for the .270 and the 6.5 mm.
