Browning makes one in a long range rifle 1000 dollars or so, Ruger Predator is another one over 1,000. Savage would be your best bet for that price range. I don't like savage from cosmetic look and feel but they always shoot true!! Tikka has one but its the CTR tactical model and a 1000 dollars as well. You can go to Bear Mountain and order a Tikka 6.5x55 since they are long actions for the price you are looking at. I've loved the tikkas and bought a .270 in 2003 when they were still trying to get a foot hold on the market. Stomp44 turned that into a 6.5x.270 AI. The action is one of the best, the bolts as Stomp says rarely need to be trued and the triggers are usually really nice. I wish Tikka would get on the band wagon and make a few more calibers available in the US. They have chambers listed but don't always send those over here. They also need to get smart and make some 600 dollar 6.5 creedmore rifles as well. I can't wait so Ive been looking for a tikka acton and im going to build a 6.5 creedmoor rifle. They make great rifles but upset they don't make any 26" barrels

I went to New Orleans this year and they call it Nor-Lens, or Na-Lens and hate it being called New--Or--Lens. Even though it is pronounce New-Or-Lens it is accepted by culture now and a way of life for the ones who now live there. Arizona hunters its the same. You can call it the right way if you want, but if you hunt with me you call it Coues Cu-ues and not Cowzs.

I think you can get the 280AI brass and then neck it down. You don't have to fire form. The .270 you don't need to turn it down and you keep the longer neck

The man is owning up to It!! He reported it and went to court and now he has to pay a fine. If I was a judge the fine would be lot less! If I fined him the full extent for being honest what will that tell future hunters. Lets say you get drawn next year! And something happens like that to you. Maybe you thought you had a clear shot and there was a bedded ram in a bush behind it and killed it. Hmmmm well I know if I tell the truth and it was truly an accident i will be fined 32k dollars. That won't give me much instinctive to tell the truth if it was a (honest mistake).

I always skin trout. Pull back their heads and start pulling. Now you only have meat. Place in foil with a spoon full of butter add season salt or garlic salt. Once done cooking grab the top of the spine and peel the whole bone skeleton out at one time. All you got left is trout sitting in seasoned butter. Eat with hands. Tasty

Even if your not shooting its still fun to spot and watch bullet impacts. Thats half the fun

In defense of the Berger I have seen more bullets written about not working at longer range. Bullet slows down and doesn't expand the way its suppose to. My buddy shot his elk (good shot placement) at 750 yards dropped and then got back up again. (never to be found). He shot it with a 30-378, 230 grain Berger. At 700 yards energy is the same as a .270 at 100 yards. But I seen Bergers and seen lots of write ups about bergers expanding like a champ at closer shots. Even Berger website shows the gelatin reaction of their shots. Nosler accubond LR are opposite. People have written (i have not seen it yet myself) about how well it expands at slower speeds but just pencil threw at fast speeds. Lots of variables that happens with bullets, to fast, to slow, no energy, not enough, bullet construction, BC, and shot placement. But to say one is all you need to worry about is silly in my mind.

^^^ Does anybody have a link to show real results or studies on these matter. I believe in this order on how bullets should be looked at. 1. Shot placement 2. Bullet construction 3. Energy For the perfect shot I believe all three need to come together. For example Lances pour yote see above. BeardAZ if his bullet was constructed a solid steel bullet, expansion would of not of happen and pencil through. The energy behind it would cause a good 1-1/4 hole. (my belief only) A well constructed bullet while expanding with energy is going to expand the energy wider due to the expansion of the bullet. Go ahead and shoot an apple with a .22 solid point. It shoots right through with a thumb size hole on the other side. Shoot it then with a hollow point .22 and watch the back half of the apple explode. People on here only report of what they have seen. But it would be nice a magazine company or website company do a third party shoot out and see how bullets compare in a lot of scenarios. That would be a awesome write up.
