    Athlon Cronus 8.5x42

I have a pair of Euros 15x and love them. The quality is great and suggested by others on here it is right behind Swaros if not better then Zeiss or the same. But I bought a Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 scope and could tell the glass was really good. And for the price it was a no brainer. If the glass was good I also needed a 8x for archery and hunting in the Pines and pinyons, so I contacted Chris (Douglas-gun-guy) on the forum since he is a dealer for Athlon and bought me the Athlon Cronus 8.5x42 binos. The glass on these are very clear. I compared them to my Nikon Monarch 5s 12x42. I know the power is different but I wanted to see glass. It wasn't just a tad difference it was a lot. As soon as you looked through it you could tell there was a major difference. So I compared it to my Cableas Euros 15x and could tell the glass was right there with it. Then I compared it to the Euros when it was getting dark to compare. The Cronus was right there with the Euros. There was no comparison to the Nikon. Even tried them inside the house and it seemed brighter in my optic then what it really was. The Nikon made it darker then what it really was. I probably spent 30 mins on these total so I don't have lots of hours on them yet. The Cronus feels nice in my hands and fits to my eyes perfect. I would say its right there with glass quality to the Euros as of right now. The Nikon is 12x around $350 and the 8x is around $300. These Cronus are around 450-480 and I got it better less then that when Chris had it on the Holiday Sale. I know Athlon is trying get their foot in the market and keeping prices low. My belief once they get a hold these binos will probably go up to 1200 and the scope will probably go well over 2500. But for right now don't waste money on a $350 bino when you can spend a 100-200 more and get a 1000 dollar quality pair, or even a 800-900 dollars bino like the Vortex don't waste your time. My Euros beats the crap out of my brothers 900 dollar 15s night and day. Like the Cableas Euros they are right behind just a slight notch behind the Swaros and for half the cost they are a no Brainer!! Just like these Cronos they are a no brainer for the cost. Right now they only make 8.5x and 10x. I don't know why they havent made 15s yet. If this helps anyone take a look into it.

Huh my guess they have done this before and have a system down. I hate parking off main roads, parks, or main dirt roads. Things tend to happen

Would You Add A Few Ounces For Quality?

Glad you got what you wanted. Tell us how you like it compared t your other S&B 3-20x50 and your new Gen II Razor

Would You Add A Few Ounces For Quality?

Knowing your personality you won't be happy unless you have top tier products (thats not an insult by the way). Your a shooter more than a hiker too. You shoot thousands of rounds a year, and Ill tell you what will happen on your next hunt with this rifle if you choose the lesser. First off you going to do a cool write up on this scope and rifle and show us your loads but wish you had the better scope! Even though its a good scope it just doesn't feel like Lance! Then your going to take it out shooting to practice long range and probably get a 3" grouping out to 750 yards and do another cool write up about that and probably mention the scope is good but I could of had better. Then you will take it out hunting and hike with it for your Daughters 6 day hunt in the BaB (again) and not care if your gun will weigh a half pound more and think every once in a while; why didn't I get the top scope for only $100 more? I think most of us on here will believe this is how Lance Thinks! Am I wrong??? Or is 9oz more important to you because in the past its not! Go with what will make you be happy in the long run.

    Millenials..

Like you Im with the Boy Scouts as well and for 3 years I was over the 12-13 year old, and now Im over the 14-15 years old (Varsity Scouts). Like you Im not a huge fan of the Scout organization either even though Im an Eagle Scout myself but Scouts is way different these days then it was in the 90's and earlier for that matter. Lot more Red tape and everything, basically you can't do anything these days. Scouts is a place for kids who's dads don't take them hunting or camping. Plus they don't even know the difference because now adays every out door activity is like a class room. What happen to being out doors catching a fish and gutting there and cooking it over the fire with sticks?? Had the boys on a campout and handed them an ax and said chop us some wood for the fire! They said they never chopped wood before and don't know how. WHAT!???! I had to go back to the basics and reteach them where the best fire wood is at, how to chop wood and start fires and these boys were in scouts for almost 2 years. It was at this time I realize that scouts was no longer the same when I grew up. We are given these little princess boys that really don't want to be there and talk more about video games.. We have failed these boys on what it is of being a man and loving the outdoors. Ill tell you my secret now regarding what I do in scouts!!!! I don't care about these kids Eagle anymore. I focus on real work, loving the out doors including fishing, shooting, going to camp sites on purpose that takes 4WD ( I had one boy said it was more fun then a roller coaster). I want them to see and enjoy what I enjoyed growing up and this was 100 times more important then an Eagle Badge!!

    Millenials..

The Mans Man sadly is a dying breed! Those men who can shoot a gun, chop wood, start a fire, gut a fish, back up a trailer are washing up and being targeted as Barbarians and hurting their safe space. If you cant gut a fish or back up your trailer shave your beard!

    Full moon myth?

I don't know about the rut, but during the October hunts during full moon I have seen less deer in the day compared to a quarter moon or no moon.
  13. I remember you posting a pic of that rifle you wanted. I didn't know you got it!
  14. I went to this one as well. I believe its called "Arizona Pheasant and Chukar". I had a bad experience as well. The guy released the birds right in front of us and told us we can only hunt in this one specific field and only between these 3 corn rows. He said if the birds run into any of the other fields they get away.(But we still paid for them which is to be expected) He also laughed when I said I wont need any of his dogs help and that I will be using my Britt. My dog found every bird in the field we were allowed to hunt and held point very well on all of the birds. We didn't find 3 birds at the end of the hunt. He said: "You are missing 3 birds let me let my dogs out and get some exercise and see if we can find them." He let out about 6 dogs all at once and my dog was put back into the kennel. His dogs were running all over the place including the fields we were not allowed to hunt. All three birds had ran into fields we were not allowed to hunt. At the end of the day he said "Usually if you bring your own dog and I have to get mine out to find the rest of the birds I charge you more but Im just being a nice guy today."(He was fishing for a tip) I didn't give him one because I told him I didn't ask you to bring your dogs out that was his choice. If I did it again I would only buy the Chukars because they would hold real well.Pen raised birds seem to always have short tail feathers. The only way to get really long tail feathers is to shoot wild pheasants. I went wild pheasant hunting a couple years ago and all the roosters had 20" tail feathers. Funny how that happen! The Last bird I spotted and it took the dogs another min to find it.

Wow that unit is a keeper then
  18. I didn't want to hijack Greyghost85 thread. But do we know many rounds each caliber can handle if loaded near top peak? Also does anybody have an idea how many loads can some one do with a light load ? What have you guys seen??

    2017 Javelina

Congrats!! Glassing up 2-3 heard's a day??? I have never glassed up javalina yet. Thousands of deer but not one pig
  20. Tikka T3 is the way to go for off the shelf! Pick one up a 260 rifle for around 650 dollars or a Tikka CTR 260 or 6.5 creedmoor. Sadly tikka doesn't make a standard 6.5 creedmoor rifle.

    Long Range Get Together

I am with Big Browns sorry guys. Plus we are doing Disneyworld and the week after that its our anniversary all in that month. To much going on!! If I decide to make it out there it will be last second but I won't throw a monkey wrench in and disrupt your shoot out, Ill just watch for fun. Unless you have someone drop out. But don't plan on me, if I make it great!
  22. I went to the other place and i don't remember what it was called. It was a single guy who owned it and he used to work there, but has his own fields in Maricopa. It was alright, and I took my dad with me and the birds looked like in the same condition you were talking about. He hired some extreme red neck young couple to help them out. I notice the same thing when he said "once the bird flies and lands its a dead bird" so you shot at it anyways even if its a bad shot! Dogs kept pointing a dead feathers and one bird couldn't even fly. Once I plucked the feathers off I knew why! There was almost no meat on the breast. It didn't even have enough muscle to fly. I bagged out and my dad got two. Over all it was alright but nothing great. It was more of a "just to say we did it" kind of thing.
  23. Mr Owl only counted to 3 before he got to the Tootsie pop!! That mean we hunters are screwed then!!!

    Leica 1600b- Want your feedback

I have the 1600B and love the beam. I think the farthest I hit was 2300 yards, and hitting 500-1200 yards is never a problem. The hardest thing to hit is when the sun rays are right in line with your laser you will have a hard time picking it up, but same with everything else. From what I've read you can't input your ballistics into it. You pick one thats closest to your rifle, or you do the strait line of sight and the 1600B will tell you the degree of angel and you can put that into your app. If Im wrong about the ballistic I would like to hear how to do it from someone who has done it.
  25. So probably another 100 on load development, another 50-100 double checking Moa drops and another 1--200 rounds on practice. That would put me already on a new rifle 400-500 rounds. Those numbers are probably high but if I practice with it about 40 shots a year it will last me another 10 years then.
