Its sideways but It makes it lot easier to glass all day using a tri pod
-
What they don't tell you is hunting is expensive if you want to spot deer all day! But in the old days our grandpas just walked around until they saw one and shot it. But there are lot less deer today and more hunting pressure then when grandpa went out 30-40 years ago. But we are not saying don't bother to hunt unless you get the nice stuff. If I couldn't afford any binoculars I would still go out and beat the bush you will kick out something sooner or later (but more work included). If your on a tight budget do what matty said! You can even get the 10x50 nikon the big bulky one for around 150. If you got a couple hundred more get the monarch line they can do you good. But once you start looking through some really nice glass deer almost pop out like magic compared to the lower end binos. Get the tripod adapter and pop off the cap that is on the middle dial of you binos. You should see a brass threaded insert. The tri pod adapter threads on that and then the adapter snaps in you tri pod. I first started off with the cheap walmart camera tri pod for 20 dollars. It works but you need to find a spot that work out on the ground for you. Once you get going with you tripod you can scan without fatigue. Your hands don't get tired and your eyes start adjusting to your binos. It takes some time but after a while you can sit there for 15-30 mins just looking through your binos. A month ago I pick out a nice hill hiked to it and sat there all morning glassing. I could easily glass out to a mile away with a pair of 15x. If money is not a problem get good glass!! Everybody usually makes their way that direction and I never heard of anyone ever saying I wish I get rid of these and go back to the 300 dollar binos. No one regrets it.

What Stomp just said!! That was one of my question to Dougsls-gun-guy why he built it. With the longer neck and fire forming it your neck goes right to 0.013 wall thickness at the neck instead of 0.044" on the 6.5-06 AI. No turning needed and you have the longer neck and longer brass life. Plus I like .270 over a 30-06 so I thinks it looks and sounds cooler saying 6.5-.270 AI. Not to many people have that. But I'm using the 6.5-06 AI 40 degree shoulder dies. Once fired formed I had to shave the shell holder down just a tad to bump the shoulder back 0.002-3" because of the longer neck. (With a little help from Lance on how to do it). Stomp is the one who built it and Dougals the gun guy sent the reamer so I'm assuming the reamer accounted for the longer neck on the 270 instead of the shorter neck of the 30-06?? -
Spot on!!!!!^^^^^^. That's what I do!!! You will see more and be more rested by glassing all day instead hiking. I only still hunt areas with lots of small hills with tons of pockets and ravines, and thick brush and trees. I only still hunt when I have to.

22 is full of deer. Pick anywhere from what the game and fish site suggest and glass glass glass. You will find them. I don't think anyone in 22 will go more than a day without glass up deer. The only unit I' ever been in that I glassed all day and not see deer is 37b. And that's more we'll known as a tougher unit.

Just go to my last message and click Qoute. It will add the message that you want to write about. As for the fire forming that sounds great! But I'm new to fire forming and not dumbing you down I'm hoping you are getting the right amount of forming. It sounds like you are. If that's the case does that mean you can fire form and not burn up your barrel ? -

You need to do a video on that one. Even with a muzzle break?? -
Nice job! I took the kids up to rim to play in the snow. Lots of trucks parked on the side of the Beeline, everyone else hunting but me

I can't remember but a 1:9.5 should stable that bullet. Any heavier you probably want a 1:10 barrel. I could be wrong One would want a faster twist, not a slower twists to stabilize a longer heavier bullet. Ha ha ha yes!! Brain fart. Thanks for pointing that out

Huh interesting!! I need to read up on that more. I was also told to use magnums primers instead of my 210m. My groups went from 1" to 2". Switch backed to 210m federals and it tighten back up. I don't know if it will work out for me in the long run. I've had my best success with 210m with H1000 in the 300 win myself. Warm or cold temps. I'm going to try it again and use a magnum primer. I was shooting it and pressure spiked and my bullet was shooting 3100 fps. I droped it from 78.7- 78 and Im still over 3,000 but with a slight creator on the primer. My Coal is were its at and the gun likes it. Im going to drop it another 0.5 grain and see if my velocity drops and reduce these creators. But still shooting 1" MOA. Maybe when I tried that magnum it was a fluke so we will test the magnum up to the 210m again.

Opinions and reviews on vortex viper pst scopes?
Zeke-BE replied to longshooter's topic in Optics and tripods
Mine so fare works. Does well for the price! Glass is also great compared to the 300-500 scopes out there. The 1500-2500 it has nothing on it. I hit plate 1000 yards with my 300 win mag with it so it can do the job. -
4wd will do. I wasn't on the main Bloody Basin rd and I didn't have a problem.

I went ahead and picked up the H4831 and some magnum primers. Ill work that up and see. All of them were around 1.2-1.5" at 200 yards. I think I could of gotten it a little tighter to maybe 1" due to shooter. I had alleges and my eyes were watering up 80% of the time. I had to pull off the gun a few times and blink a hundred times so I can see. But with a few adjustments with the H-1000 I bet i can get it to under .75 at 200 yards. But I really want to see how it does with the H4831. Also since your bergers are at mag length that keeps me excited to try them out. -
I had alot of the good stuff! But i also have a push broom and a bucket of water and a trash bag. Light it off and dump it in the bucket and put it in the trash. My street was clean and this was all before 9:30.

So I took it out to the range shooting the first fire forms. Started off shooting 200 yards. Just started a load development of 3 shot groups of H-1000 of 57 grain- 61.2 grain. I set the Coal to the length of the magazine because I knew it would be a hunting repeater so I didn't bother starting just touching the Lands. Also shooting the ELD-x 143 and I notice from my 300 win mag and Creedmoor that these ELDs love shooting away from the Lands unlike Bergers. 6.5 143 ELD-x Nosler Brass Fed 210 M primer (ill probably switch to mag primers on the next one) Annealing brass, this is my second time and I think i got it down now. Every load was shooting sub MOA except for one and I think it was shooters error I was getting 3050-3150 on some of my top loads with no signs of pressure. Im going to do some fine tuning and see if i can get this to be a 0.5 MOA and less round. Also Im going to do a ladder test to check out H4831 and ImR 7828SSc to see what velocity I can get out of her. -
