7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build
Zeke-BE replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Come on guys we all know Lance is bored! -
If they can shoot a 7mm-08 a .270 130 grain would be great! Elk 140 grain. A little more ump behind the .270 with not that much more recoil.

243 is a great youth gun, but if you are planning within the next year to go elk hunting buy a 7mm-08. If it was me I would just get both

What ammo for quail
Zeke-BE replied to MULEPACKHUNTER's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I keep 3-4 high brass 5 shot in my pockets for January. For when those guys are 80 yards away and not flying, can't get any closer, I have shot one on the ground before. Usually you can see them and they can see you that far but not running I have had times that they gave me enough opportunity to switch out my round. (Shooting birds on the ground goes against my code, until Januray ) -
I hate them! Once while bow hunting in Aug (stupid time) slipped down rocky hill and well enjoyed the ride down until a heard a rattle snake at the bottom of the hill and I couldn't stop because it was so steep. I had to use my bow to dig into the side of the hill to stop me. The worst one while quail hunting it struck at the barrel of my gun i leaped back and fell back on the down side of the hill and the little SOB starting slither right toward me. The only time I screamed like a girl after puberty. And just this last weekend while out shooting I almost stepped on 2 of them. No rattle until I stopped myself and walked back it notice me.

I love my cabelas Euros (made from Meopta I believe). Right there with Swaros! I bought a Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 scope and the glass is top tier! I needed a 8x binos as well and the glass on my scope was so nice I took a leap of faith with the 8x. Well those Cronus 8x are right there ( i would say equal) with my Cabelas Euros. So look into the Athlon Cronus spotting scope I think its 1400-1500. Athlon is keeping prices down to get their foot in the door with the big wigs. If its truly about money right now look into the Cronus. But as Lance and Big Browns have said those Meopta look fantastic.

CWT group effort Wildcat Rifle build
Zeke-BE replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Never thought of RL22 or 23. It would be great if I can get my 4th and 5th shot to group in my next 3 shot grouping with close and exceeding 3200 fps I would be happy. Even if I can get a load with this Ill still try out velocity with RL23 and hybrid 100V which I haven't heard of. -

Funny!!! The exact opposite for me I tried many powders when I developed the 140 gr load for my lightweight 7mm-08 AI. There were some real surprises during the testing. I'm sure the 20 inch barrel was responsible for some of them. I am getting ready to start powder testing with 168 gr bullets for an elk load. The bullets have been on the shelf for over 4 years. I normally hunt elk archery so it hasn't been a high priority. I checked the Hodgdon site for 7mm-08 data and Hybrid 100V showed the highest velocity. Interestingly, it also shows the highest velocity for 140 gr bullets in a 6.5-06. Have you tried it yet? I have not yet. Going to see what H4831 does first. I have high hopes for it -
6.5-06 AI or .280 AI? What would YOU build?

Well its been many weeks since I shot my rifle last in January. Im still in load development but with javelina hunt, sickness, bad weather, and crazy work I still haven't finish a load yet. ELD-x bullets really don't like to group for me on this rifle. Only if its right at 3000 fps can I get 1/2" groupings. I switched it to Bergers 140 HVLD on H-1000 but at full capacity of powder I would hit 3,200 fps. Tried a side option 3 shot grouping from that powder and got 1" MOA at 3200 fps but still looking for that 1/2 if I can. Went out today and fought off 2 rattlesnakes and did a ladder test on a different powder H4831 OAL 2.666 140 grain berger Hybrid From 320 yards My first 3 shots were 0.828" at 320 yards, thats 0.258" MOA ---Wow!!! Looking good so far for just a ladder test 1-58 grain shot 3038 fps 2-58.5 grain 3138 3- 59 grain 3158 Then it jumped up as you can see on the picture to a new grouping, ending up being 2.195" or 0.685" MOA for the second group. It would of been nice to see it closer to the first group. 4th 59.5 grain shot 3187 fps 5- 60 grain 3236 6-60.5 grain 3224 pressure slightly creator on primer but nothing to much to worry about just yet 7-61 grain 3265 (i could smell it right away that I blew a primer) Sticky bolt and primer pop out. Usually I can see the primer creator noticeable and I would stop but there was a big difference between 60.5 and 61 grains. But over all this is some of the best groupings I've seen with those velocity's. So Im going to work on shot # 2, 3 and 5 and see what I can get. I really wanted to be shooting those ELD's but Berger Hybrids are shooting nice with this H4831. And for those who are saying don't worry about the velocity just pick the best groupings. Well this rifle was a .270 and I had it at 3,000 fps at .80" MOA. There is no point to have a 6.5-270 AI 26" barrel shooting at the same speed then a standard tikka 22" barrel .270. The goal is to get a close 1/2 grouping cruising at 3150-3200 fps -
Project "Long Range Loaner" Load Development
Zeke-BE replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
What is "inexpensive" to Lance?? We all know you are a top tier guy 2500-4000 dollar scope range, inexpensive scope to me is a 150 dollar to 400 scope does that sound right? Or is that a 700-1000 dollar range? Maybe look into the Athlon ARES BTR 4.5-27x50 FFP 600 dollars or the 400 dollars Midas 4.5-27x50 SFP -
I was 100% on board to plan to hunt antelope in Wyoming for 2017, but I heard from another hunter that they are having a 90% fawn death rate because winter is lot harsher this year. I think that is the right wordage. But I did find a link in January that Game and Fish announce that there will be more antelope and deer death this winter. They stated more snow and colder weather this year. Any body else hear anything about this. I don't want to blow my preference point on a bad year

Problem with eastern Wyoming is all the private land and checkered board. I notice your from Worland. Been through there a few times. Welcome to the site

.300WM Christensen Arms Load Development
Zeke-BE replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I was quite pissed off at myself for the first 4 rounds. I thought I had a good shooting lane picked out at 600, and dialed for elevation, held for a 2.2mph L-R wind and allowed for a bit of spin drift. First shot was about 2' high and 2' right......WTF? Second shot was low and left....WTF????? Third shot was low and 3' right.....WTFFF?????? I now this is strange to you Lance but this is how the rest of us feels when we shoot long range :) -
Wow just wow

Think about it.....HOW would it be possible for the camera to remain upright in a bullet traveling 50-100k revolutions per second? And think about this...20 cartridges for $100???? A camera on each bullet?? Come on guys... I saw this a mile away. Very true it had me at first. But I wouldn't be surprise if they did that. They do have artillery that have GPS in the round. (Future weapons TV Show) They shot it 5 miles off course and the fins act like a plane or rocket and brought it back off course and hit the target. They said their biggest design struggle was to create the software that can handle the extreme G Force once it was first fired

Agreed!!! I think it's great though. More choices, more rifles, more shooting, more fun. I remember when the creedmoor came out. For the first 3 years I wanted one bad. Everyone on shooting forums was saying it will disappear it's only a fab. Hornady did a great job in promoting it. I think they are in the belief it can happen again. It's funny the 6 mm Remington and Win 243 came out he same time or close to it. The Remington will beat it with velocity by 150-200 fps. But Winchester did a better job promoting it and Remington stop making it because of lack of sales. This will be fun to see happen if someone can get their hands on it
