    Tikka 6.5X55

Lots of people use Match on game, and some bullets do better for match. In this order that I have (read and watch on video only) 1st- Hornady Amax or ELD-m 2nd Bergers Hybrids ( ive heard of VLDs penciling through at long range but ironically not the Hybrids) 3- Sierra Match King- Some do very well and I ready some still killed but small cavity holes. I always shot Nosler accubonds and they did great. They mushroomed but they had a quarter (coin) size hole entrance and a quarter (coin) exit on 3 animals. I would like to see a 2-3" hole on the exit but never got it. None of them bleed at all but died right away. So mostly it really matters on shot placement and the bullet should do its job.

    Tikka 6.5X55

Bergers Hybrids do very well on game. Hornady Amax are the ELDs-Matchs with new heat tips to with stand the long range heat that would melt the older Amaxs tips. Lots of people used the Amax from coyotes and Elk!! They performed great!!! I never heard of anyone as of yet that an Amax pencil through probably because of the tip on it. I have 147s coming too. If they do better than my 143s Im switching!!!

    Long Range Hunting

To each their own, and what makes it exciting to them! To say your way is better is silly!! Because everyone prefers something different which is okay! Bow hunting is fun because you get close to nature and less pressure on animals. Rifle hunting is fun because you take longer shots and probably have more opportunity to harvest an animal. But to say shooting long range takes all the fun out of it, truly whats the difference of shooting at 100 yards and 300 yards.? Farther than that it takes alot of practice and understanding how your rifle works and understanding wind and your drop. Ive been shooting all year and developing a perfect load for my rifle, to me that is part of hunting! No different than shooting your bow and becoming "ONE WITH THE BOW". I say if you enjoy what you do with hunting and its ethical and legal do it!!!

    6.5 Creedmoor for elk?

Hornady makes great rounds. I shoot the ELDx and would not hesitate to shoot the ELDm either (which are Amax's with a new tip) I've (only) read and watched results with Amax and ELD's perform well! Plus they have really good BC and expand better than other rounds at slower speeds, where I heard of other rounds just pencil through at slower speeds (not all but enough to make me concern). I haven't see as of yet anyone with bad results with a well place bullet with Amax's and ELDs

    6.5 Creedmoor for elk?

I wouldn't hesitate if I know I can make that shot with comfort!!! That round will do, but since you have options for 140s I would go with that!

  17. Well I pretty much blame Lance (lancetkenyon) and Chris (Douglas-gun-guy) for this but Im not that upset! Lance did his load development on Chris's new 6.5-270 AI. If you look back on this topic you can find the whole write up that Lance did. At that same time I had my tikka .270 and have been shooting out to 700 yards with it. I took a New Mexico Goat with it at 300 yards, mule deer spike at 300 yards, and a Coues at 400 yards. The gun did great and grouped well at 300-400 yards. At 500 yards the BC for a .270 is usually in the low .5s and it would widen out farther I shot. In my opinion the .270 is one of the greatest calibers for the 100-350 shots out there. It will slay deer and knock down elk no problem. But I wanted the higher BC for better groupings at 500-800 yards. Just when I started to think about a new rifle Lance came out with his thread on Chris's new wildcat 6.5-.270. Well it was a sign!!! Got a hold of Chris and said he would love to build me one. Told him not till after hunting season. Well October came around and Chris had some family stuff that came up and couldn't take on anymore work but will be willing to send his reamer and suggested I talk to Clint (Stomp442) to build my gun. Stomp was great to work with and answered all my long annoying questions about it because I never built one before. Specs: Tikka .270 action Bartlien #3 barrel 26" Custom muzzle break McMillian Game Scout Stock Bolt fluted spiral from LRI With bipod and Vortex scope 10.5# (with the Athlon it will be 11#s) (with bipod off 10#) Athlon Cronus with seekins 34mm rings 20 Moa rail Vortex Level Nosler .270 brass W760 52 grain 140 grain 6.5 HVLD Berger It turned out Great! With lots of question and text message with Chris (douglas-gun-guy) Lance (lancetkenyon), and Clint (stomp442) with questions, muzzel breaks, how to create a false shoulder, and fire forming etc etc Im really greatful for all the help!!! Custom muzzle break that Stomp did Sent my bolt off to LRI to get it fluted. It took it a total of 8 days and 58 dollars. I put on my PST vortex 6.5-24x50 scope just temporary. Im putting on my 4.5-29x56 Athlon Cronus but its on the Creedmoor and Im still developing a load for it so this will do. Here is the difference from the .270 to a 6.5-.270 AI I've had my rifle for a few weeks and this is the first day that im shooting it. Waiting my bolt to come back, bad weather, and lots of Christmas shopping that the wife put her foot down that had to be done!! Plus I was getting angry text message from Lance and Chris why I haven't shot it yet!! Well not angry I still got out today and weather was suppose to be lot clearer today but the news guys were wrong as always It was fire forming at 3000 fps using W760 (beacuse I had lots of it from my .270) using Berger 140 grain. After 25 rounds I had a primer blow out and then I stopped. So Im going to undo the other 75 round and drop a grain or two. That Sucks!!! But over all for just fire forming rounds and using W760 I was getting great groupings at 100 yards Most of the shots were 1/2" grouping with 4 shots and the 5th one seemed to be flyers And Shooting Nosler Brass Overall the gun shoots so smoothly with the muzzle break!! It kicks less than my 11# creedmoor on and the stock fits your shoulder nicely. After fire forming Ill be shooting 140 bergers and ELD-X 143 grain and Ill try H1000
  18. Final Load!!!!!! Going to settle here. After 3 different powders, accubonds, ELDs, Bergers finally settled on 6.5 Horndy ELD-x 143 60.5 g H-1000 (very good node between 60.2-60.9 with very little velocity and grouping change) 3,105 pfs Fed 210 Match primer I was able to get 3200 fps many times with other powder and H-1000 but with only 1-1/4 groupings. I was really shooting for 1/2 MOA and kept getting 0.633 at 100 yards. Today shooting at 200 yards to sight in the scope, and at 200 yards really showed my MOA groupings, which ended up at less then 1/2 MOA. Now if I can get this at exactly 1/2 at 200 yards I would be a happy camper!! But I bought a Antelope tag in New Mexico and want to get going on my drops for long range. I do have ELDm 147 6.5 coming and I do want to see if I can push these the same velocity. Even if Im at 50 fps slower than the 143s the 0.697 BC past 400 yards and out to 1200 yards is going faster than the 143s and less wind drift. Sounds awesome!! But for hunting this year Ill stick with the 143s Also side note my cold bore was a little high but then all the rest ended 1/2 MOA. That is normal correct? Or do I need to work on that?

  23. So all I know is using elevation/ temp and plugging that in and use the reading after that! Reading other places they are suggesting only barometric pressure. Some stuff is not clear to me on my app. If I plug that in does it affect what I already have with elevation that is plugged in or do I hit 0 and put in barometric pressure?? Any advise or help would be great!!!
