If your for and against youth hunts it really doesn't matter. What matters is that you take your kids out hunting. If you don't get drawn, you can take them squirrel hunting (my first hunt and I was so excited and remember really well even today) rabbit hunting,DOVE, and I loved quail hunting with my dad and brothers as a kid. If you only take the pure excitement of a hunt for a kid the thrill shooting my first squirrel age 11 was the same feeling when I shot my first deer at age 16!! Just a different story with a bigger animal. The point is youth hunts are not the only way to attract kids to hunting! They are more like the parent living through their kids at their football game making more about them (the parents) then letting the kids have fun playing. Doesn't mean Im against the youth hunts because in 2020 hunting season Im putting my daughter in the youth hunts.( and yes Ill be living through her hunt that I never had at her age) If they are there Ill take full advantage of youth hunts. But this January Im taking my daughter quail hunting and yote hunting (she keeps asking to go) ---Conclusion, if they don't know any better they will love being out there with you regardless what you are hunting!

No one else got drawn and my brother and I picked up a left over down south unit again for WT. A unit we hunted before and had good success. But I had no time into prep, never really thought of the hunt and wasn't excited to really go. Plus my other brother bailed on us. The day we were leaving I told my wife Im not in the mood to go hunt this unit, nor even being excited. I don't mind hunting by myself for a day, or just hunting with another partner and staying at a cabin, or hotel. But this was the first time just only 2 of us in a camp. You just end up sitting there for a few hours at camp and go to bed. My brother complained about getting tired of hunting down south in the desert and has never hunted deer in the pines and want to try something new. Then you don't have anyone to talk to at lunch time, except the same brother and then again at night its a lot of down time. I don't know what my problem is but I did discover Im a social hunter! I can hunt by myself during the day no prob but really enjoy heading back to camp and talking hunt with the other guys. Told my brother if its just the 2 of us again we are staying near home, or getting a hotel to kill the down time with a hot shower and HBO. If we don't have access to that we need a min of 3 hunters so I don't get into this funk!! Do other guys have this problem or do I just need to man up????

We actually go right below where the White and Black merge and usually fish the upper most part of the Salt. We drove in last night and a couple of guys in a white Tundra flagged us down and told us there are no fish!! I thought he was joking because in a half day I can catch 30-60 fish in this area. Then he said " I bulls**t you not" went on and said there is alot of orange algae and the fish have parasites! Went on and said there are 6 other fishermen down there now and they have been there all day and haven't caught one fish. They themselves went after it for 2 hours and didn't catch fish and left that night. We got down there and talked to the fishermen and they confirmed it to be true. Well shoot we are already there so we camped anyways and it was dinner time. This morning where we camp the water is slow moving and usually in the morning you can see and hear the fish all morning jumping and surfacing. NOT One! We went out for 20 mins, by this time the rest of the other fishersmen broke camp and left and usually after 5-10 cast we catch stuff. Nope nothing! So we took everyones word and broke camp. So whats the deal???? Something I missed?? Something killed them off because there are hundreds of fish in there and not one.

Congrats thats so cool!! -
Last time I hunted a December hunt next to Flagstaff we got a hotel and life was great! Got in late, warm room, hot shower and then went into to town and got dinner!! We were toasty! Few years back I was in december cow hunt in unit 10. Nights were -10 and highs were 0 degrees. Pipe froze and tank froze. Didn't break anything but lucky we had drinking water that didn't freeze. Next time Ill just bring jugs of water inside and heat it on the stove to take a sponge bath

I just kept to my high nutrition diet, gym, and cardio! Lost another couple of pounds and another 1/2" around the waist. I probably only did about 5 miles pack in on my whitetail hunt last week. This was an easy hike because this is the first time I was in good shape to backpack in.

Ha ha ha! Yep that can sound like me at times, and other times Im totally into it depending on whats going on in life. I own a business and sometimes its annoying I have to drop everything when things need to get done for a vacation, or a hunt. If I let work get to busy I forget about simple common hunts. If its a big deal like a bull elk hunt, Kaibab hunt, antelope hunt Im more focus on that then trying to get my job done ha ha. But I know people who don't care about their jobs and met workers who would be ok in losing their job just so they can go on their hunt (if that had to be a choice). People are wired different, some like company, some like to be alone, some want a challenge, some don't care about priorities, and I see myself right in the middle of all this most of the time.

Thanks for all the comments! 300 Rum I couldn't do a 10 day solo! Hunting hard is no prob! We hiked in an hour and half before sunrise and had to turn back once I was on my last liter of water. (we had to climb a big ole hill after a good 80" buck) When your partner wants and likes heading back to camp it throws to much down time in for me! Usually when that happens I eat lunch and jump in the rhino and go glassing by myself, and come back and pick up my brother for the late even hunts. Im not a good napper, nor am I really good at falling asleep right after dinner. I usually have to take a tylonal PM to help put me down when I camp. But a good idea is maybe do alot more hunting by myself and when I have another hunter with me it should be a party! Besides all this and what I usually am used to, I just wasn't filling either. Couple of things I realized! I usually pump myself up for hunts and read CW everyday getting excited, which I didn't do. I usually work on loads and shooting every weekend, which I also didn't do! Plus staring at google earth and e scouting other areas, which I didn't do! I think a classic sport player not having their head in the game put a funk in my hunt

Well it sounds like its just me!!!!! ha ha ha
