Legal issues!! They built them for target shooting (but works great on game so people use them) If one does fail they can't come to Berger and blame them. Ive seen a HVLD fail on a great shot behind the shoulder. Ive seen a partion fail but was still able to recover the animal. Partion was behind the shoulder. So far in my hunting career ive seen more fails on hunting bullets then target bullets. Kind of strange right? Not so lucky I guess

I never had anyone do it for me. I just do the recommend torque have a 4 ft level or a block wall and level it out on that through my scope and how it feels for my shoulder. But i have no recommended places sorry

I guess that picture can be deceiving. Bullet hole was right behind the shoulder with the exit right behind the shoulder see pic above. I had to flip the Goat over and drag it out of the pile of blood it was in for a good shot. (you know respect for the animal kill picture) The other side was worse. So it looks like a gut shot i guess since you pointed it out. 460 yards not long range thats mid range. Here is 730 yards in 8 mph winds with the same rifle I guess thats ok shooting Win71. Take a hike Win and stop complaining about people that knows how to shoot and just because they do things different then you

I was going to have a smart mouth comment but since I lived in Montana for 2 years Ill help you out. I never hunted there yet but Ive talked to many many hunters who have. They all say the same thing. Since you are spot and stalk hunter just google earth and pick an area you want to hunt. Get out and spot and stalk. There are lots of bucks in there. Every hunter says they chase them all the time. Doesn't mean they get shot opportunity and its not the well known BAB big boy bucks but its just like that. No secret! Just like Coues deer in Arizona there is no secret get away 10 ft from a road or 2 miles its the secret is glass and glass and you will find them. Where to camp I am unsure of never hunted there. Good luck

It's amazing how much easier hiking is every pound that you lose. trphyhntr - I just did a 2.5 mile no-load hill hike 50% uphill and 50% down - and lighter is always better. Better for the back, feet, knees - etc etc etc. Just btwn 15-16lbs down now is very noticeable. Just remember go into this hunt back on calories surplus 2 weeks before the hunt and stay that way until the hunt is over. Cutting for 12 weeks you will loose lbs but strength as well. If you haven't been working out it will feel like your getting stronger while loosing weight. But you will be at full max strength while eating in surplus. Your going to want that when your hauling out that elk!! Good luck can't wait for your write up.

Which model? I was sent a Midas BTR from a supplier to test out. It did not track or return to zero. Not even close. Sent it in, Athlon sent a new one out. The new one did the same thing. Wow! I've read lots of reports that the Midas tracks well. 2 for 2 isn't good

How about a javalina @ 18 yards by an 11 years old? Lance you shouldn't of show the tripod in this picture because that is not hunting either

Shoot far, shoot long, shoot from a blind, tree stand, spear, shooting hogs from a helicopter, hunting black bear on bait, or from a boat in Alaska, or high fences in texas! Who cares nobody is thinking about what other people think on how they hunt. Except a hand full of people on this forum. Just because you don't think much of it or what should be expected doesn't mean you need to knock on it for other. I have my ways day in and day out but Ill try any style of hunting just to say I did it.

Im going to give idagf the benefit of the doubt that he was meaning that not to many 14 year olds get the opportunity like up close and personal then a 14 year old with a rifle. But yes you guys are right that 14 year old shoots more then most on here and her groupings prove it!! Let alone her awesome buck she took last year

No wonder why those guys stole your cameras and the other 40 out there. They want that bull!!

If you can shoot nice and tight 300 yard you can shoot 500 yards once you know how to get your scope on it. The only real trick by 500 yards is wind. 3mph not much change 10 you better understand it. 700 yards and out you better understand 3-5mph winds depending on what your shooting it could end up from 12"-24". That can be a complete miss or a gut shot on a little coues

Nice trout

Nice kills guys! Now the Devils advocate??? Ive only taken one shot out to 700 yards on an animal, but 2 kills little under 500 yards one shot Dirt!. I missed and I was confused because I have a 3-4" group at 700 yards and read wind pretty good. Then I found out that I ranged over the back and put me 100 yards farther out. MOAs that far out will miss big time

Alot of people including myself defended 777 about the first crime he committed. But enough people were tired of his bullying on line, and then promotes himself to others to feel good about what he did, and now we are just fed up with him. Then this whole thing happens but since he has already made himself with who he is on CWT it wouldn't have matter if it was a spike if it was done by 777! And alot of people are just done with him. Plus most members here are stand up guys and any type of tolerance of poaching (even a spike) or breaking the law strikes a nerve with us!!

I think your right and with the technology part. Mainly alot of die hards or old timers hate to see the new generation coming in and think they can have the gadgets and shoot 500 yards from the start. Like everyone in life you have to start from the beginning and in hunting it starts with Respect for your firearm, and nature. Then learn how to hunt hunt. Stalking, shooting, glassing, etc etc. Then once you get done with that min wage job advance up to something better either in longer shots, better shooting, and getting closer to game. But it annoys me too when you have a newbie hunter first question on CWT is "I want to get into long range hunting what 800 dollar rifle and scope should I buy"
