A friend of mine told me one day he bought a spot on a ranch in mexico and asked me if I wanted to go last year. Heck yeah I will!!! The day came, and crossing the border sucks with trucks, trailers, side by sides getting all the paper work done, visas, customs checking our guns, the mexican border checking our guns, the mexican military checking our guns and 5 hours later from leaving AZ we are finally on our way to the ranch!!! Sadly nothing was rutting when we got there. Veterans hunters who hunted this ranch before said its always crazy rutting at this time. Just so pre rutting and a full moon! But if this was a hunting unit in AZ this would of been the best unit I have ever hunted!! Needless to say I had a great time and all the other hunters there were way awesome. We all helped each other out. One guy spotted a double drop tine buck and the next day we hunted close to them or the other ridge over and that morning my hunting partner glassed him up. We radioed the guy and I watched this buck for 2 hours and waited for this hunter who was looking for him to show up! Sadly the dude missed at 400 yards ( he got excited). But good karma always pans out in the hunting world. His spotter was up real high and in favor he glassed up bucks left and right to put us on for helping them out. But I was able to land this nice buck at 460 yard. He isn't the biggest but what we were only really seeing out there was this size, biggest Coues I ever shot though . Couple of other hunters passed up on some 95 inch and another one was looking for 110" buck that they glassed up but couldn't find him. All in all we had a blast and can't imagine what the rut down there is really like.

I got the opportunity to go on a friends archery bull hunt. First time for me to do this, tag along and help out. I learned alot but this was one of the most epic hunts I have ever been on. It was a ton of fun chasing bugles through the forest and watching them rake their racks. This one was the 3rd attempt to get on a bull. This time I dropped him off and drove around a mile on the other side where the meadow was because I knew he would chase them out of there if he spooks them, so I can get eyes on them if they ran out and radio in. Not long I got the radio and he said he stuck one. Drove back to the old logging road and hike into him. My buddy was worried about his 55 yard shot and showed right where he shot him. I looked down the narrow corridor of trees about a 100 yards down and the sun beaming on the body and antlers and said "dude your bulls right there" Hugs and congrats happen! Man that was fun!!! Sad its over. Gutted it out and drug it out into the open for some nice pics.

Some of you have seen the build of my 6.5-270AI. The gun shoots great with 6.5 142 SMK R23 56g ----3,055fps Case Nosler .270 fire formed to 6.5 with 40 degree shoulder, CCI 250 primer Tikka .270 action 200 yard 0.709, MOA 0.35 Ive killed 1 deer and 1 antelope exceeding 400 yards 1 shot dirt naps with great results of the SMK. I have shot this rifle almost to the max of barrel life. I have a few hundred rounds to go before "suggested" life of the bartlin barrel. But my brass fire formed is about up and will need to fire form more brass. So I thought why not shoot a bunch of 25.06 rounds and go away from the .270 and then get a new barrel. (.270 you get the longer necks) The reason to go to the .25-06 is when fire formed I don't need to do any neck trimming for length and neck tuning while the .270 brass I had to turn the neck once and trim the neck almost after every time I shot it (that got annoying). Just lots of brass work to be done. Im just done with all the brass work. I just want to load and shoot! So I can fire form maybe a couple hundred 25-06 and then get a new barrel on and be ready for the new barrel and no wasted time and barrel life. Or------(the big debate Im having) I can just go ahead and shoot up the rest of the barrel and buy the new barrel and chamber for the .280AI. That way I can just buy the Nosler .280AI brass (less prep time that I like) and also feel pretty good for my elk hunts as well. I do have a 300 win mag though. On a side note I like 6.5s and always wanted a 6.5x55. So I can have the .280AI and also get and work on a fun 6.5x55. But I also would like to see what the 6.5.270 can do with the TMK or the 146 matrix Help me choose! Which one and why??? Here is that rifle!
