    6x6 Bull Killed, Crazy Story!

Some times it pays to be in the right place
  2. We'll it's been 8 years since I last shot a bow and been bow hunting. We'll I'm Back!!! Bought a Hoyt Charger and man, bows are like computers the technology has come a long way. I went out shooting this morning for the first time in 8 years and was impresses with me or the bow. Hitting paper plates all morning at 60 yards and size of a fist at 30 yards. I'm heading down in January with a pig and deer tag in the 36's units and I shoot a 100 grain. But I'm out of the loop on archery equipment, what are some decent prices on decent Broadhead? Man I tell you it felt great shooting a bow again, smiles all morning

    Foot Lbs Energy

I guess I'm confused and now lost on this matter. If ft/lbs doesn't matter, with bullet energy, that doesn't really matter, isn't there some type of energy that is doing damage because of ft/lbs??? If I compare my .270 to my buddies 30-378 his ft/lbs is the same at 700 yards then my .270 is at 200 yards. They were rough numbers but to keep things simple that's were we are at. So it should be the same knock down power beside bullet size and design. But if you compare those bullets to a gelatin and see if what does more of some type of hydro shock to the inside I guess you can compare. So my question is this, and I'm having a hard time to put this into words; is there no knock down power behind the bullet or does it only compare to speed and size and bullet design on impact???????!

    22-250 bullets

I think it's been over 15 years since I read cursive, but to answer your question yes it shouldn't penetrate as it is design Tomore so explode on impact. But I have read stories and seen pictures that some bullets didn't penetrate so well on javalina. But I wouldn't hesitate to use him on those pigs.

    24b success ? Anybody?

Biggest buck I chased with a bow was in 2005 January hunt was pushing 190 inch buck. Ever since then I've notice mule deer decreasing. And sadly I was busted by 3 does because I got up to 50 yards of him and couldn't get a shot set up.

If we don't hear any good news this would be the 3rd year in a row with real poor success with mule deer in that unit.

What is your Go-To round for Elk?

I shoot 140 gr AB's with 53 grains of W760 in my Tikka T3 and it's sub-moa , but my rifle chrono'd at 2,985 fps. I use the set up for Coues but wouldn't hesitate to take that rifle elk hunting either. This is proof that every gun is different! I was shooting 53 grain and chrono it at 3,060 fps. Every others shot I would miss paper! That was 6 inches. I backed off a grain and it shoots like a champ!!!

  10. Bass pro sale started Wednesday. I picked up a FoxPro Fusion 100 bucks off. Me and my brothers started a new family tradition, coyote hunting on thanksgiving morning. Sad to say I missed my yote and shot barley over his back. As for Black Friday I stay away from the crowds and use that morning to put up Christmas lights, then off to the Archery Range, then tonight some family volleyball game. Ohhhhh and I can't miss the ASU vs U of A game. Go Devils!!!!

    Little of everything

Man those deer were hitting that water at midnight with that full moon. Has anyone else notice that almost all the deer hunts always start on full moons
  12. Well I already bagged a antelope, in 2 weeks I have my mule deer hunt, and now I'm thinking about a spring long weekend hunt up in unit 10 for yotes. I hunted there last year up by tin city for cow elk, and helpled a friend scout for antelope. Great coyote country and from what I hear they are in abundance up there. I usually will call for them In 24b and 37b and found out they have a big impact on the goat herds during fawn dropping in the northern units. Does anyone usually know when fawns start dropping up here? And I hear calling yotes in spring times is usually different. I'm not the most Advid yotey hunter out there but I would really like a crack a them this spring!! Even with a deer hunt coming up I just keep thinking of the future hunts

    Unit 10 coyote ??

I want this so bad. Why wouldn't G and F allow you to shoot from a truck, or spot lighte them ( just for yotes only). This would give us A tactical advantage and this would help out game and fish. I don't need that feel good feeling that I hiked in and shot that coyote. I feel good when it's dead. In the end it's one less antelope eater. Ohhh but when there are to many game and fish will hire out choppers to help eliminate them. That's government for you over spending too much, just give the private sector more freedoms to take care of the job and to save the government money.
  14. Maybe my ADD mind cant read every word in the Regulation's or the Lawyer abbreviations that are in there. But I cant find a few things. My question is, is it not allowed to rifle hunt small game and varmints during a deer hunt. I thought it was for sure during an elk hunt its not allowed. I've been told that its ok to hunt quail during a pig hunt or deer hunt. Can anyone clarify this? Thanks so much

What is your Go-To round for Elk?

If I was hunting today I would have my tikka .270 140 grain accurbond, W760 (52 grain) 3,010 fps with a inch grouping at 200 yards. But I haven't harvest an elk yet, but my plans is to get a 300 win mag LR set up. I don't want to hack this thread but I've seen a lot of guys post the 300 WSM. What does that have that the 300 win mag doesn't?

    Free Range Aoudad Hunt

I don't know how badly it will mess up the ecosystem but I wish those were living in our state and able to hunt them.

Grizzlies found to be actively stalking hunters

I was in Missoula Montana in 2001 in October when it hit the news that a montana elk hunter shot a cow elk and while by himself and during when he was gutting the animal a grizz came right up behind him and killed him and took the elk.

    Drones for scouting????

Uuuhhhh....... You better jump all over that get that business started before someone Else does. After reading this I believe with in 10 years someone will be doing this. I've seen on the internet that someone here in AZ for a fee will go out and scout for you, take pictures and give you GPS location of,those pictures of the unit of your choice. I wouldnt be surprise if that company is already starting to use drones.

    Scouting during rifle hunts

I always hunted 36b couse. This was my first year hunting mule deer and I was hunting 36b. I didn't want to show up to a hunt and that is where all the hunters are camping and hunting at. So I went out for the first mule deer hunt drove around just to see where the camps were and where all the hunters were hunting. But I stayed on the road and glassed.

    15 years of no harvest

Last time I bagged a deer was a couse when I was 17. Now that I'm 32 I've had a 15 year dry spell. In that time I've had 8 years of missing the hunt. I had 2 years living out of state, 2 years of barely missing the draw, a mistake on 1 application , and on the down turn of the economy I was building a house and the bank went bankrupt and left me 70 grand owing my contractors. So I spent 2 years (which overlapped 3 hunting seasons) working every minute of my life to pay these guys back. The good news I got debt free The other 7 years involved me focusing on my hunt to get my brother his first deer, missing a 90 inch whitetail, and just plain owe got skunked during those hunts. So this is my first mule deer and I took him because we'll he was the only buck I saw in 3 days and I had to make it back to work the next day. He ended up being 250 yard with a .270 tikka loaded with accurbond. But my luck started changing when I bought the Vortex tripod. This August I used it on my antelope hunt in New Mexico and shot off the top of it. And for this little guy I got down for a prone shot and the grass was to high so I crawled back and got my tripod and rested on top of that and dropped him. So I found my lucky charm. Maybe next year the next one will be a few inches bigger

    Drones for scouting????

That backpack video drone seemed cool. When your scouting and looking for a water source just pop that drone out and go up and over that ridge that would of taken you 30 minutes to get to and check it out there. If it looks good head on over. It would make it real easy on the boots just like Glassing.
