That's a awesome story! Congrats

On Labor Day I'm heading to unit 1. But I had the itch and wanted to do some bow hunting in a bad way. Thought about 24b or 24a but at the last second lets try Ord. I haven't been up there archery season yet. I knew there will be bow hunters but there were lot more cars parked up there. Almost every other ridge had a tree stand. First thing in the morning we picked out a ridge aways from the road and set off. Beautiful morning until I had a hunter flagging me down. Well crap! Did an about face and turned the other way right up the mountain. By the time we got to the top we spotted a nice buck and found a nice shed. Sad part it was going strait to that hunters stand. I probably ruined his hunt. Went about 300 yards found a salt lick and salt. Looked right ahhh a camera. Went up to the camera and said sorry. 20 ft away was the stand. Told my brother ok let's head out. This place has a stand every ridge. It was still nice, and we chased a buck for a short time and spotted a few does. But if you want a secluded archery hunt, without hikers, runners, and the scouts on the top to hike to the towers don't head there. Sorry to the hunters for interrupting their stand hunts. Didn't know you were there

I don't know if I could wait all day in one spot!! To much ADD! I'll stick to spot and stalk, but one of these days I'll man up to you guys and try the all day tree stand!

1st time quail season
Zeke-BE replied to desertotter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
If you don't have a spot. Maybe start off around a water hole. And walk around. Or if you seen them in an area while you drove by get out and beat the bush. Always pay attention to their calls. As soon as I hear them call I'll try to pin point were they are at and just walk that direction. Usually that always works. If you don't here calls I still will come across a covey within in a mile or two of walking . This advace is only for gambles though. -
Last week I just bought this 700 Remington long range 300 win mag, with a Bell and Carlson stock. I'm developing a load with 210 grain Bergers VLDs and I'm going to flute the bolt, put on a muzzle brake, and was thinking about fluting the barrel. It's a 9 pound gun and I don't mind hiking with the weight, but if it's not a big deal to flute and take a little weight off without losing accuracy then I'll do that. Should I flute? Pros and cons? Best place to machine it? And how much to flute a bolt, barrel and muzzle brake?

2015 Ford F-250 super duty diesel or 2015 Chevy Duramax
Zeke-BE replied to az-6.5-284's topic in The Campfire
Actually in a third party contest Ford won the easier ride! Also easier ride with a trailer connected on a dirt road. Won the 1/4 mile up hill, and 0-60 pulling. In 2015 they changed the breaking so it stop just as fast as the chevy. When they did the 12 mile up hill in Colorado Chevy did pull away a whole truck and trailer ahead. But we don't have anything that big in Az. Ford won in most category's. Dodge did win the down hill breaking. As usual Dodge is dinoed out to handle the heavier load but chevy and ford still best it in all towing categories. For the 2016 model Ford added or is planning on another gear for the tranny so chevy won't beat them again on the hill. The ford 6.7 made by Ford is done right! My business partner got one! My old 6.0 will take a 12k pound trailer up,those hills pushing 65 and slowing down to 55 by the time I get to the top. He took the same load 75 mph from start to finish and said he could of pushed it more if he wanted to. -

My smallest but probably will be one of the most memorable

These are my favorite stories -
I even parked in an area where it's really not even a good parking spot. Looked at a ridge over a 1/4 mile and said let's go on the other side of that and start working are way out. I didn't see any hunter either. Just lots of parked trucks, camps and only hunters in tree stands 3 ridges over. So yeah I hike! Sounds like you found the right spot.

I'm usually under the impression that most people head north or toward the pines during ealry archery season. It won't be till a couple weeks until I'm in the pines but I'm getting so anxious I'll probably go hit 24b 24a Saturday morning till 8:30 in the morning just to get out and do it. I used to do that 10 years ago but haven't since. How many achers are hitting the hot desert this season?????

^^^^^^ agreed

How often do we hear rifle hunters shooting each because they didn't have a vest. Most accidents are self inflicted, or their friend next to them. The number is extremely low. Now to help each other see each other does make since a little. But I'll quote and agree with what another CWT member said about this same topic "so you don't let them see your honey hole". I've hunted here my whole life and never really had a problem with it. Only time I think we should is while bird hunting.

November Glassing Down South (Coues)
Zeke-BE replied to Lazy-H98's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
36 a you can find them in the flats, and large rolling hills where the muleys are at to. I see less couse inthe rolling hills on the north side of 36b. Only muleys! But lots if them at the base of the mountains in the hills. There are plenty there. Once you get into 3-5 miles in on 36 b it's all couse flats, rolling hills and mountains. I usually like to find a vantage point in the large hills where I have 180 degrees out to a mile and I'll sit that for a while. -
I never heard of this! But I wasn't on CWT when that must of come out. Definitely let us know if something like that comes up because I would fight that too. Keep nature for the people.

I agree , but also know several guys that have made their wealth themselves and have the kind of money to purchase such tags and every single one of them have businesses set up with a management staff that allows them to do what they like when they like .. A couple already spend half the year hunting various locations around the world... With today's tech no one is separated from their business too long if they do not want to be. That being said who do you think appreciates the wealth more.... The guy that made millions working hard and doing it himself or the guy that gained his wealth through a family estate? I an pretty certain most will say the guy that Did it himself. I like to believe the same is true with the majority of hunters, that the journey and hard work is what makes the accomplishment of earning a true trophy a real success story. Not how much you paid for having someone else do it for you! Yes I agree but I said that a lot of them find there joy in business more than the hunt. If they loved the hunt more then they would spend more time. I own and operate my own plumbing contracting company. I love doing it, I love working with my hands and negotiating with other business owners. But I don't love it enough to do my own floors or roof. I don't have time, nor like construction that much to learn another trade. I'll just pay someone to do it. I love what I do! Same thing for the wealthy hunters they love it, but I bet they will admit they don't love it as much as lot of people do on this forum. Now if they are successful and you can spend the time and love being out hunting well good for them they're living in American dream. If your dream is to win big in their business or expertise and like to do small vacations and a little hunting well they're just as happy as you are. To each their own! Just love doing it.

Remember people who are wealthy have a business or business mind set. It's there passion, joy, what they are great at. 90 % of millionaires are first generation self made millionaire. Meaning they did it in their own life time, with no help. Same concept for people who aren't millionaires but are very well off. They think about it day I'm and day out. They don't think about hunting all day ling like a lot of us. The reason why they have a lot of money is because they don't stop what they are doing, they keep their momentum going. They don't have time to scout their "business " is priority 1. They have the means so they hire it out. They enjoy the hunt and love it, but their first love is their business. I understand most of us would take the whole year off to go hunting if we had the means. But that is the very reason why they have lots of money and we don't is because they wouldn't do that and lose momentum in work. Cheaper for them and save time for them. Completely different type of mind sets. One has a wealthy mind set, the reason why he is wealthy, and the other one doesn't. You say our joy is to hunt all day and work less, the other one joy is work all day and hunt less but pay more. In the end both sides are very happy in their hunt, and they have very different opinions on how to do it.

I haven't archery bull hunt yet. This is great information

Lots of scouting and help from others I bet you can land a 350-370 if you hunt the whole time plus help. Good luck and keep us posted
-
Wide open areas. Long shots. Expect to be average 300 yards. Unless your in the thick stuff. My buddy been chasing a 380 for a while now, and years ago he was chasing a 395-400 but never seen it since
