Speechless! Thanks for a great story! Congrats to the Dunn family and to Mullins for another great bull! You guys are incredible! -Tracy

I'm definitely interested! As far as the rules go, are there any rules on calling? Do the predators that you shoot have to be called in or will "opportunity" kills count as well? Mouth calls only or are electronic calls allowed as well? Any contest I have ever entered the animals had to be called in and it had to be with a mouth call but those may have been a predator "calling" contest not a predator "hunting" contest. What do you guys think? -Tracy

Well I was going to wait untill I had some pics to show but I haven't recieved them yet. I didn't have a camera on Sunday so my dad's friend Mark brought his and he is going to email them to me. We drove up through Estes Park and took the highway that loops through the Rocky Mtn. National Park. I really don't even know what to say! It was so amazing it left me speechless! It was some of the most beautiful country that I have ever seen. When we got to the highest point of about 12000 ft it was 35 degrees and there was about 6 to 8 inches of snow on the ground, IN AUGUST! We saw some really nice bull elk but we didn't get any pictures of them because we couldn't get the camera out in time. We did however get some pictures of an elk herd feeding in a meadow and a cow and calf moose. It was the first time I have ever seen a moose and it was amazing! It was like a dream watching such a magnificent animal. I really can't find the words to explain what a wonderful experience it was. I will post the pictures as soon as I get them. -Tracy

Well to make a long story short, I live in Phoenix, AZ and had to travel to Denver, CO for work. I drove through NM on my way to CO and let me tell you, it was some of the most beautifull country I have ever seen. I took the I-25 north out of Albequerque and after I passed Las Vegas, NM it seemed to be open rolling hills, as green as could be for miles and miles. I think the area that I completely fell in love with was outside of a town called Springer (I think that was the name of the town). I saw more antelope than I could count and it was no surprise being that all of NM that I saw was perfect antelope country. I love to predator hunt and I know where ever you find antelope you'll find coyotes. Do any of you NM residents know anything about all the open rolling hills country around Springer? Is it privately owned or is it open to hunting? I would really like to return to that area and do some varmint calling. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Oh and what does a nonresident hunting license cost? -Tracy

HAVE U EVER HAD A CAM STOLEN
Gr8 White Jr replied to FOGGER's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I had one stolen in unit 37A last February. I set it up on Sunday evening and was back to check it the next Friday and it was gone! Didn't even make it five days. Other than that Ive been pretty lucky. I did have some scumbag on horseback find my cam in unit 8 and he piled up sticks in front of it so it couldn't take any pics. Glad it wasn't taken but what a jerk! I just can't comprehend taking or even messing with something that belongs to somebody else. -Tracy -
We are definitely pumped! The last couple of times we were up there we saw some really nice bulls. Two in particular. I am going to do everything I can to get my dad to hold out for a good bull. He's lowering the bar after he walked away empty handed on his unit 9 hunt two years ago. That's okay though, as long as its a trophy in his eyes then that's all that matters. As far as October goes, wouldn't miss it! Can't wait! -Tracy

sd card stolen!!!!!
Gr8 White Jr replied to jonscaife's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Sorry to hear of your misfortune there bud! I know exactly how you feel. I had a camera stolen last spring and I was pretty upset too! Pretty violating feeling! The worse thing about it is now I am constantly nervous when my cameras are out and it just should not have to be that way! -Tracy -
I might miss openning weekend for the first time in ten years of archery hunting. I am in Denver for work and I definitely won't make it back in time for openning day. I might make it home in time to go out for the day on sunday so I am crossing my fingers. Good luck to all who will be out there this weekend and remember the two most important things, be safe and have fun! -Tracy

If she gets her patience and persistants from you then I know the two of you together will be unstopable. Good luck to you and Ashley! Can't wait to see you and the Mini-Huntress with a pair a monster coues bucks! GO GET EM! -Tracy

"little" coues bucks
Gr8 White Jr replied to mxslaugh's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Nice pics! The biggest of the three bucks looks like he has some width to him. Thanks for sharing! Go get em! -Tracy -
I checked my trail cam last weekend before I left to Denver and I finally got a picture of a buck. This is my first real successful year using a trail cam and all summer I have been getting does, elk, turkey, javelina and even a fox but until now I had yet to get a pictures of any kind of a buck, big or small. Its only a small muley but hey, its a buck and I am happy to get the little guy's picture. Its not a very good picture, I had the camera set on auto flash and I think the flash went off when it shouldn't have. -Tracy

Now that's funny! -
Thanks for the ideas! I went and visited with one of my dad's friends yesterday evening. He moved from Phx to Denver a couple of years ago. He is who got me into hunting with a muzzle loader when I was 14 years old. Anyway, he suggested Estes Park as well so tomorrow morning we are going to head up there and he is going to show me around. I'm really looking forward to it! Hope to see some wildlife! I will let you know how it goes. -Tracy

Daniel, Those are some great pics! Caribou and Moose hunt coming up? You are the luckiest man alive! I'm sure you will but make sure to take lots of pics to share with us back here who can only dream. I know I told you before that my dream is to go to Alaska but I didn't go into specifics, I want to hunt grizzlies with my bow. Even though those are black bears keep them pictures coming! I love them and since I won't be heading to Alaska anytime soon it helps keep the dreams alive! Thanks for sharing! -Tracy

TAM, That is a studd of a lion!!! What did he weigh? Great job to you and Josh on a magnificent animal! -Tracy

Wow! Maybe you forgot what you said in one of your earlier posts: "People often justify their actions by trying to cast all actions in the same light. Equating radios with binos for example." Comparing this to poaching or child molesting is very extreme and way off base. We are talking about judging a very well known and respected man for using a tactic that is very much with in the law and does not infringe on anybody elses rights. In one of your posts earlier on this topic you mention that the use of radios "allows the hunter to evade the deer's innate surrvival tools", how so? If that is your main concern then is the use of scentlock, no scent sprays, no scent laundry detergent and all other scent eliminating products considered to be unethical or "unfair chase" to your standards? By the way, what "fair chase" standards are you refering to? Something else you said earlier has me a little bit confused as well: " As far as the advantage of using radios...I have tried it and it is a huge advantage which is why it is not considered fair chase. Just think of this. If it didn't offer a significant advantage why would people use them?" Shortly after this you stated: "Some guys think using hounds is cheating or not fair chase. I'd argue otherwise." You don't think using hounds to tree a lion or a bear is a huge advantage? If it wasn't then why would people use them? Some thing else you said earlier was "Congrats (seriously) on another great buck Randy but when are you going to take the next step and try to do it fair chase? How many do you need to kill before you need another challenge? So why are'nt you going after all the guys who use hounds to take record book lions and bears. Why aren't you asking them when they are going to "take the next step" and try to do it without hounds? How come your not asking them how many bears or lions do they need to kill before they need another challenge? Using hounds or not, killing a lion or bear is a huge challenge just the same as taking a record book mule deer, radios or not, is a huge challenge. What's next? Camoflauge also "allows the hunter to evade the deer's innate survival tools"? We could go all day on this! -Tracy
-
I completely agree! Although I don't use radios, I don't see anything wrong with it. You obviously do see something wrong with it but that doesn't mean that I am going to judge you for having different thoughts on the matter. There needs to be different opinions and feelings to keeps things stable and balanced. -Tracy
