Any other lucky 23N Early Archery Bull tag Holders here?
out2hunt replied to bonecollector777's topic in Elk Hunting
Is April when you became a member lol, just kidding cause everyone here has the right to their opinion. I believe if you met shedhunteraz you'd learn that he/she is all about the good in being a sportsman. If trying to get the kid to see his side of the story and understand that hunting is a right of passage for everyone to enjoy. Enjoyment does not come at the hands of a 400in bull, more like recognition or bragging rights. I am all for big bull hunting, but not at the expense of other hunter's experiences and whether or not I can talk down about those experiences. Now if you want to rant, the forum is open lol -
Sweet pics man, Thanks for sharing!

It's one of the better units for big bulls. But, like any unit, you will have to work hard and be patient to find the big bruisers. Some guy on one of the forums, it may have been this one, drew the early rifle tag in there last year. It was his first elk hunt and he went it alone. He obviously didn't know what he had because he shot a 250-260ish six by six on opening day. He was thrilled to death, and any bull is a trophy, but the unit has a lot more potential than that. I think it's kind of sad when random people that don't know what's going on and put in and get drawn for tags like 23N, 9, 27, 10, 1.They don't know what they have and kill a bull that they could have killed in any unit in the state. I know he was happy to kill it and some of you say that's all that matters is getting one but seriously? Go put in for a late tag or something if you want 250" bulls. Why would you want experienced hunter's as your competition? I would invite the newbies to draw the coveted tags, in your case, increasing your chances at the big ones! I'm not trying to put you on blast but I seem to read quite a few negative remarks, almost know it all type remarks. Show your a true sportsman and offer knowledge, not nonsense. Many Blessings on a stud bull for a great tag -
is it sold?

Actually that buck in my Avitar is about 100 miles West from were most of my lion pictures are, so I think he's safe. However, I hear you, and I'm always looking for a lion to kill. I killed my first lion this March. If you desire calling in a lion for someone, Id be obliged to fill my tag! Amazing pic! Welcome to the site

Muley224, I respect the dIY hunt as I to enjoy getting it done, only after enjoying putting in the work. The only reason I suggest a guide service is the time they spend year round in the unit, really gives them an advantage. Each year they all create "hit lists" for the best bulls in the unit, some of which comes from time spent covering the unit from the ground and some of which comes from the air. I wish you the very best and hope to see you post a 380 plus bull! Many Blessings, Ken

LOL.......I second that...5a bucks are in the pines currently, so why not in 5bs!

That is a hunt to spend the money on, go guide service all the way or lose out on the opportunities provided by so much expertise. You have drawn one of the elite bull tags, call Mullins guide service!

Muzzy 100grain fixed........they have done DAMAGE on every deer, pig and yote I have ever shot at. This year is my first archery bull hunt and I am considering trying the ulmer's edge, anyone hear anything good or bad about them? Regardless, I will have my Muzzy's ready to go. Good Luck -
Thank you!

My buddy drew the 36b tag a few years back and had a team of excellent glassers with him and ended up with tag soup. I killed a 95 in in 2008 on the nov hunt in 36b. They just are not as thick as they once were in 36b. I have never hunted 32. I did however see a 123in stuffed at a clients yesterday out of 21 on the general season hunt. I will say that each year I miss the draw on 13b, I hunt over the counter in any 36 unit. The leftover tags have treated me well. Food for thought

I have to put a special shout out to Kevin Lawhorn for taking the time this weekend to extend his knowledge and resources. He opened his cabin up to me and let me treat it as my own, then helped me locate areas of interest in the unit. Then allowed me to use three of his cameras, only after he checked them over and made sure they were ready to go! From the Polaris ranger to the gas and expense, he covered it all. I am proud to call him a friend and only hope to be able to repay such a grand favor! He really understands how important this tag is to me and I appreciate that. Truly blessed

I solo hunt most of the time and when times get tough, I pull out a book and read for fifteen to twenty minutes. It can take your mind off of things for a short period, which may allow you to realign your focus. Reflection is also key, meaning take the time to realize exactly where you are and the wonderful task at hand. Many Blessings on a fantastic time in the field!

NO WATER North of the 319 except cattle concrete tank out by red hill. Very disturbing to see a favorite spot look so bad.....desolate. Anyone ever consider renting a water truck and filling a tank? I think they have hit the canyon because it is the only year round water source in the northern half of the unit. Ideas?

Sweet Rack Guys!!! -
I know this sounds horrible but I find the first fresh spot of piss and roll my pack and legs in it. used fresh cow shoot as well. You really would be surprised at how effective it can be. Estrus wafers on the hat and the pack as well. Super stinky just like the big bulls like it!!!
